Is it strange to hope that I get called to jury duty soon? ;)

FSUZeta 12-17-2018 07:13 PM

Here's hoping you do. I have a feeling Greek potential jurors will be dismissed.

In-depth update on Harvard:
https://www.chronicle.com/article/Ha...Down-on/245436

Unrelated, I got an email to donate to the efforts to get Greeks back at Harvard. Anyone else who signed the petition get this email too?

33girl 02-07-2019 09:04 PM

Oh Lawdy, Alexandra Robbins is back!

That last statement in the article just makes my blood boil. I don’t know how people who say things like that can possibly think they care about or are helping colleges students.

My jaw hit the ground as well when I read that, 33girl.

I did.

LaneSig 02-08-2019 10:20 AM

I got the same email.

honeychile 02-08-2019 03:08 PM

Well, I feel left out! I signed, but didn't get the email. I even checked my spam filter.

New update on Harvard Greeks: https://www.standuptoharvard.org/lawsuit-update/

It would be great if Greek students at Harvard would continue to wear their letters on campus every day in protest.

ChioLu 05-11-2019 09:41 AM

Per a source who used to work at Alpha Phi IHQ (and, no, I won’t divulge): the Alpha Phi chapter at Harvard is back and has about 20 members. The chapter is probably not recognized by the school but that should change after the lawsuit.

Here's what I don't get: it seems like every very prominent Harvard grad was in one of those single-sex eating clubs. Wouldn't Harvard be losing a boatload of support with this recent move?

I’m guessing that they have been unhappy with Harvard’s direction for a long time and have been sending any $$ directly to their clubs for a long time. That’s why they could afford to stay open. The collegiate members know they have alumni support without going thru Harvard channels.

Yesterday, the judge in the case rejected Harvard's motion to dismiss.

lake 08-10-2019 08:42 PM

Yay! This is great news!

Sadly, the groups impacted by Harvard's policy the most have been dismissed from the federal case. KKG and Theta were removed as plaintiffs.

It seems like the only reason they were dismissed as plaintiffs is because they're not active and not subject to Harvard's policies.

But the lawsuit hasn't been dismissed completely, which is a good sign.

I wholeheartedly disagree! The one and ONLY reason that Theta and Kappa are no longer active chapters is a direct result of the threats made by Harvard against the girls in the sorority chapters.

Accurate. However, looking at the big picture, this case will set a precedent, and the fact that it wasn't dismissed entirely is a positive step forward.

I think what she was trying to say is how can a chapter be a plaintiff if the chapter is no longer an active entity. Same as a deceased person can’t be a plaintiff. We know why the chapters were forced to close.

https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2...ay%20afternoon.

A small update but Harvard has taken the policy back. The main question will be if the groups effected will recolonize or stay as co ed orgs.

PGD-GRAD 06-29-2020 09:00 PM

Well it would seem that both Theta and Kappa might still have some members on campus who now have alum status. That could be their start.

This is awesome news! Just saw it on Twitter (NPC posting).

My mind goes to the legal implications. GLOs sue University for dues not received, students/alums file class-action for not being able to join these groups during the ban. Much more, I’m sure. (Kevin, anything to add?)

APhi2KD 06-30-2020 09:45 PM

Yippee!!!

NPC announcement via Facebook:

When Harvard announced its (now-rescinded) sanctions policy, the entire Panhellenic community rallied in support of the sorority experience through the #HearHerHarvard and #StandUpToHarvard campaigns. Now, Delta Gamma and Kappa Alpha Theta have announced they will be re-establishing their chapters, joining Alpha Phi in the Cambridge area to re-establish the Cambridge Area College Panhellenic Association.

To support the re-establishment of these organizations, we need your help once again! On Thursday, Nov. 18, Alpha Phi, Delta Gamma and Kappa Alpha Theta are hosting a virtual information session for Harvard women via Zoom. To help support the growth and development of the entire Panhellenic community, we're asking everyone to share this post or the Zoom registration link below with any woman (or her caregiver(s)) you know is attending Harvard.
