My rush orientation is on Saturday Sept. 15th, and then Bid Day is Sunday Sept. 23. Quite a long rush it seems to me...but there are 16 sororities at the UW: A Chi O, ADPi, AGD, APhi, AXiD, Chi O, Tri Delt, DG, DZ, Gamma Phi, Kappa Alpha Theta, KD, KKG, Pi Phi, Sigma Kappa, and ZTA. I'll be sure to keep everyone posted :) |
UFgirl!!! Sounds like you're having an awesome time! How on earth will you choose? :) Any of those sororities would be priveleged to have you! You just seem so sweet :) Go get em girl!!!

Today's the day!!
alright, so pref night is over and what an emotional night it was!! All of the ceremonies were so beautiful ( and all the food was great, he-he ) and I thought that it would be sooo difficult to decide.........but..........when I walked into phi mu the girl who talked to me seemed so genuinely excited to have me back and my friend who is a phi mu had told the girl I was talking to all about me so she seemed really interested in getting to know the real me. we were then taken to the dining room were each table had a place for two people. when I sat down at the table and saw that my name was written on the piece of cake with pink frosting I started to get teary. I had a great conversation with my rusher and then we were moved into the living room for the rest of prefs. They sang, they told stories of how sisterhood at phi mu changed their lives, and I bawled like a baby the whole time. after that we were given pink carnations and the rusher and rushee each plucked a petal from the flower and threw it into the fountain to make a wish. as I was doing so the girl who was rushing me said that she hoped my wish was the same as hers.
when it was time to sign my bid card I had no doubt in my mind of which chapter to put first, phi mu, and I hope with all my heart that when I open my bid card tonight at 6 pm that I will see the letters I dreamed of last night:) |

I know Panhellenic requires all the chapters to submit their rush plans and ceremonies ahead of time, so as to prevent rush infractions and duplications. Phi Mu has not used this ceremony as far as I know. We used to compete for many of the same rushees, so I'm sure many of their sisters saw our ceremony firsthand. Now that we're gone, they decided to use it. Sigh. P.S. UF Girl - please don't think I'm mad at you. This obviously isn't your fault. This is just my irritations with the sometimes-nasty competitiveness of the Greek system at UF |
I keep trying to post but it just doesn't go through. Maybe my computer is just wiggy......anyway..........I'M PHI MU:D :D :D :D
I'll give more detail later about everything, but right now I have to study....thanks to everyone for all their support! |
CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Phi Mu has just welcomed a fabulous woman into their chapter :D
|

Okay, as promised, the details................
yesterday (bid day) I got up at 10am with every intention to get my homework done. but I was so excited and nervous about the day that I couldn't focus on anything:rolleyes: anyway, so at 5pm all of the rushees met at the university auditorium and the rho chi's were revealed. Let me just confess that I was TOTALLY wrong about mine, I guess thats part of the fun! So then we were all taken to the field across the street from sorority row, and all the sorority girls were standing in front of their houses with ballons and signs and doing cheers. It was really emotional for me. There were also about 200 frat boys there cheering us on and 5 of them streaked:D yup, completely NAKED!! ahh the joys of sisterhood, lol, just joking. So then everyone got their bid cards and we counted down and opened them all the once. When I opened mine I couldn't stop screaming and jumping and crying, but it was okay because everyone else was doing the same:) I ran to the Phi Mu house where all the "Phi's" (pledges)were greeted. We took pictures and ate dinner then we all went to the movies together where they had rented an entire theater just for phi mu and we saw legally blonde. It was so much fun. After that we went back to the house and did a little bit of ritual stuff (I cried again!) and then our "Phi Friend" ( its like a temporary big sis) took us back to our dorm at like 1am. Today I went back to the house after school to each lunch and hang out, and I'm about to leave to go to dinner there where we'll also to some sisterhood stuff. Okay, well that's it for now. I hope you guys liked hearing about my rush experience as much as I love livin' it baby, yeah!!! |
Congrats to you! I'm happy everything turned out the way it was suppose to!

In a side note--this is the former ladybug16. When GC underwent it's new format my password got all messed up and e-mail attempts to solve it didn't work. So here I am with a similar username! |
Congratulations UFGirl!!!
Ladybug1116, the same thing happened to me! All attempts to obtain my old password did not work. So here I am with a new name. |
UF girl, we loved hearing your rush experiences, and I know we will love to here your pledging experiences. Just remember, it may get overwhelming at times, but we are always here for you to vent or to ask questions. So please keep coming back to us(especially us alumnas that miss our pledge periods!!!!!

Ahh...the memories!
Hey guys
I was doing a search and ran across my old rush experience at UF last fall and I couldn't help but bump it up! It brought back so many good memories(and some not so good ones:p ) but it was all worth it in the end. I though people would get a kick out of reading it again, and for all those women going through UF for the first time this year can get a really good idea of what it was like for me! Oh my gosh, I can't believe it's already been a year! I can't wait to get a little sister!:D BYE BYE |
Hi UFgirl! I read this thread back in June and it was so weird to read it because it was about your experience at recruitment and we were rushing at UF at the same time! (BTW, Group 2 rules! :D) It was funny to read your accounts because it was like going back in time and "tent talking." Anyway, glad to see everything worked out! And I can't wait for us to have our first recruitment on the other side this year! See ya in G'ville in a month!
Panhellenically, Dyan |
Had to bump
Hey ladies,
WOW. I can't believe this was me 12 years ago. How did that happen? I was having fun reading recruitment stories and I thought on a whim to look for my own. Low and behold, 2001 story found. I couldn't help but bump it. I was one of the women who got heavily cut after round one. When I went into rush (sorry, I'm an oldie) I literally knew no one at the school, and had zero recs. However, I was just so excited to be part of the whole thing that I didn't care if I got dropped by all but one chapter...I just wanted to be a part of it. I couldn't be happier with the result, and I'm still extremely close with several sisters. We're actually planning a little trip back to Gainesville next month. Anyway, thanks for letting me be old and nostalgic for a minute. :) |
Hahaha, remember the days when we posted rush stories with the real names of the chapters? This was a great one.
|
This is interesting to read...full disclosure...and I was surprised to read a sorority had closed...especially during these times now...and before DZ colonized and built their house....how times change!
|
I'm delighted by your story. Maybe we'll meet at Camp Alpha Nu or another event one day.
