I doubt that any AGD chapters do this now...I think the title is/was "The Paul Revere Song"
Listen my children and you shall hear About the midnight ride of Paul Revere, He went up the alley and down the street, Saying "Alpha Gamma Delta is the one to beat" Heido Ho.... Alpha Gammas are the Best, Heido Ho,....Alpha Gammas are the Best, Heido Ho..... Alpha Gammas are the Best, Heido Ho,Heido Ho,Heido Ho. |
No Promoting
For some odd reason my school has it in their head that PNMs would base their opinions on best sorority song or something so the chapters aren't allowed to sing songs with their names in them. I remember AF sang a song with the lyrics "These are the daaaays, we'll remember,..." during first party. I don't remember the title of the song, but I've heard it more than once. Also, FGP sang "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" during pref.

?????????????? Wow, that is just taking things too far. Recruitment IS self-promotion, of the very best kind. Door songs and chants are one of the most innocuous ways we promote ourselves. Also, they are a great memory device, IMHO they help the pms remember where they've been. And the fact that I rushed a million years ago but can still sing Gamma Phi, DG and Tri-Delt rush chants at a drop of a hat speaks to the fact that it was one of the more enjoyable, fun aspects of rush! violets |

Also: Kaaaappa Kaaappa Kaaaapa Gaaammma, I'm so happy that I am a Kaaaappa Kaaappa Kaaappa Gaaamma.... Then ours: S-I-G-M-A, Sigma, S-I-G-M-A, K-A-P-P-A, Kappa, K-A-P-P-A We are Sigma Kappa, Lavendar and Maroon We are Sigma Kappa, Don't you wanna be a Sig Kap too. Don't you wanna be a Sig Kap too There's another one that I can't think of, but it was the catchiest one too! If I remember, I'll post it. |
There have been many varieties of some chants for DG. Especially "I'm a Delta Gam bred..." Heres the one we usually use.
With a D and an E and a L T A, and a G A M M A Oh, Delta Gamma, thats what I ama (repeat) I am Delta Gam born, and Delta Gam bred, and when I die I'll be Delta Gam dead so Rah Rah for DG, Rah Rah for DG, Rah Rah for DG, DELTA GAMMA. Heres my favorite one that hasn't been listed.... Do do do do wop wop, do do do do wop wop, do do do do wop wop, do do wop wop, DG. We want you to go DG, Round here it's the very best thing All you gotta do is pledge DG Now listen to the DG's sing... We're singing.... Do do do do wop wop, do do do do wop wop, do do do do wop wop, do do wop wop, DG. Delta Gamma, Delta, Delta Gamma Welcome, remember this We hope you pledge DG. We're singing....(you get the picture I'm sure ;) ) From the other chapters.... Always Kappa Gamma....was the one that was stuck in my head when I was a Rho Gam last year. When I went through Pref at ADPi, they sang a version of Michael W Smith's Friends. That stuck out especially since it is a song that is very close to my heart. Alpha Phi's version of Bim Bam Hot Damn I'm an Alpha Phi. I knew a bunch from being a Rho Gam and I can't remember the other ones....I wish I had an Alpha Gam one to post. |

One of the amazing things about this thread is the number of songs that have been traded from GLO to GLO! I know that we did our own versions of "Boom Boom" and "Hmm, I want to linger" and I'm sure several other ones. |

honeychile....
it was from the Beta Tau chapter of ADPi at the University of Akron. I don't know if they still sing it considering I went through pref in the fall of 1999. But i'm sure they still have it somewhere. ;) |

It was like this (Really fast:) A-A-A-to-O O-O-O-to-Pi A-to-O O-to-Pi A-O-Pi, WOO!! |
The one that I still remember those most from recruitment is Tri Delt's.
Ahhhhh Delta! Delta! Delta Delta Delta! Delta Three Delta Tri Delta Delta Til We Die! They'd stand in the door and make Delta signs with their hands while squatting down and singing this. (This is a horrible explanation, it was absolutely adorable what they did, I just can't think of how else to say it.) It's so catchy, when we did mock recruitment with them last year our whole house was chanting this back at our house b/c it really sticks in your head! That's my fav one though. :D My fav Phi Mu song is definately La Di Da and Linger....Linger is the kind of song that I find myself just randomly singing, b/c it's easy to get stuck in your head hehe. |

With our smiles and our pep, we'll drive you plum crazy.... With our crescent and pearls, we are true hearted girls... and after we're gone, you'll remember our song. And yep, no one forgets it. We did it in 1992 when I was there and they're still doing it. When I was there, during practice our advisors would start on teh other side of campus (where the rushees would be) and walk towards the house and the goal was to be able to hear us the whole walk. |
I like Tri-Sigma's chant that they do.
S-S-S-I-G-G-G-G-M-A-S-I-G-G-M-A Sigma Sigma Sigma Hay! Of course I love ours. We are the ladies of silver and bordeaux We wear the ivy leaf and we want you to know we are, A-L-A-L-P-P-H-A-P-H-I A-L-A-L-P-P-H-A-P-H-I we sing it 3 times oooh also out goodbye song is soo cute... So long by now (clap clap) come again it's been a wonderful time an Alpha Phi time and we hope to see you again boom boom boom |
To this day, whenever I see any lady wearing either Tri Sigma or Alpha Sigma Tau letters, I hear these cheers in my head.
Sigma Sigma Sigma Tri Tri Tri We are loyal to our sisters And faithful 'till we die! T-A-U T-A-U-S We are the Taus Uh-huh And we are the best! |
I can't remember the exact words, maybe some of my sisters can help....
Boom boom boom boom There'll be nothing but Dee Gees Boom Boom For the one that I love boom boom boom boom There'll be nothing but Dee Gees and the anchor up above.... can anyone else remember the words? |
Quote:

Nope! Never heard it! Maybe because it mentions the other sororities?
|
Don't forget the beginning shout-out of the song:
ALPHA CHI'S THE BEST {reply} YOU'RE RIGHT BETTER THAN ALL THE REST {reply} YOU'RE RIGHT SOUND OFF.... A - L BRING IT ON DOWN... P - H - A C - H - I O - M - E - G- A Quote:
This is prolly my fav fast-cheer song for AXO. It gets stuck in your head and you sing it for days!! Our chapter loves it! We also do Boom-Boom-Boom-Boom -- silly song, but it does get stuck in there also! |

I have never heard this chant myself, but a friend of mine knows some aopi's at murray state and they have a cheer that is along the lines of:
"don't gimme no bread, no bread don't gimmie no meat, no meat just gimme that Pi, that Pi..." I don't know how it ends, but I think that's hilarious! It makes me wish for a Pi in my GLO just to be able to say that chant! This one has staying power b/c I've never even met an AOPI and that's stuck in my head! |
this was in my head for weeks....and i have to watch it around greek week or any greek event or else it gets stuck again....will prob be in my head after i post this ;)
K-A-PP-A KAPPA K-A-PP-A D-E-L-T-A DELTA D-E-L-T-A we are the kappa deltas we are the ones for you WOO we are the kappa deltas don't you wanna be a KD, too don't you wanna be a KD, too and SIGMA KAPPA SIGMA K SIGMA KAPPA ALL THE WAY aaaaah ONE HEART ONE WAY SIGMA K! |
This is totally off subject but FAB*Spicey Spice's description of the Deltas doing their little hand signals during the chant reminded me of working at TGI Friday's the summer after my senior year in high school....
We had to sing happy birthday, of course, so someone would round up a bunch of waitresses and we'd go over. And there was always this AWFUL guy, Leo, who would say, "OK, guys, let's do the short version," and we'd all go down on one knee to sing it. *groan* it was cute though. And, of course, my favorite Phi Mu chant goes, Highty Tighty God Almighty! Who the hell are YOU?! Flim Flam HOT DAMN I'M A PHI MU! |

For those of you who don't know it... We'd like to linger A little longer A little longer here with you We hate to say goodbye Remember Pi Phi True sisters in the wine and blue (sung over and over with little humming in between, as the PMN's are leaving...) And another good leaving pref song...still gives me goosebumps -- Remember The Pi Phi arrow The wine and silver blue The loyalty and the friendship That you know it will bring to you Forget all the other's pleadings Their symbols burning bright Come put on the Pi Phi arrow And you'll know you've chosen right |

Our linger: We'd like to linger A little longer A little longer here with you This is a perfect night It doesn't seem quite right That this should be our last goodbye And come September We'll remember Our sisterhood and friendships true And as the years go by I'll think of you and sigh It's not goodbye it's just goodnight! We actually usually sing that after remember... Remember Gamma Phi Beta Remember while you're away Remember the friends you've made here And don't forget to come back someday Remember the pink carnation The crescent in the sky And keep truly ever with you The mem'ry of Gamma Phi... |
That's funny our linger is VERY similar to yours amd Pi Phi's. It goes:
Mmmm Mmmm I want to linger Mmmm Mmmm A little longer Mmmm Mmmm A little longer here with you Mmmm Mmmm It's such a perfect night Mmmm Mmmm It doesn't seen quite right Mmmm Mmmm We've had a lovely time with you I think that I maybe missing something but it goes something like that. |
HAHAHA OMG...we use that same song too!!!!
|
hee! it's sooo funny how many sorority songs are the same or only slightly different. It's been discussed before that almost everyone sings "pass it on" and we also sing linger, boom boom, and born and bred. My Alpha Gam friend and I were sharing songs one night and were so suprised about how many we had in common!
we have one song that goes: Today purple violets grow deep in our hearts, they bind us in sisterhood though we may part..." etc etc. and her chapter had a song by the same tune that also started with "today..." but incorporated roses etc. we were both kind of like "hey?!" and it turned out there were lots more. perhaps it's just one more thing that bonds us panhellenically. ;) |

Mmmm Mmmmm If it's the last we spend with you. (and we sing the whole thing twice but the second time we add on a second 'with you' at the end) I can never get that song out of my head during recruitment. We sing it at the end of each night. But I love Rush so Its ok!! |

Song #2 I just wanna be an Alpha Gamma Delta da da da da I just wanna wear the fourteen pearls da da da da And if I can't have this Which I know is best Then I don't want no badge at all da da da da I don't wanna be a Beta Beta Beta da da da da I don't wanna be an Eta Eta Eta da da da da If I can't have this That I know is best Then I don't want no badge at all da da da da I think there is one more verse, but my my horrible memory has failed me once again ;) |
I was a Pi Chi last year, and got to learn EVERY sororities songs...this year my sisters (who are Pi Chis now) and I sing them when we get together to practice. They are all so catchy and cute!
I love: ADPI: "Pi Pi ADPi, I just love that ADPI Want it, need it, gotta repeat it, I just love that ADPi" AOII: "Remem-Rememeber, AOII sisters forever Laughing, singing, doing whatever We have fun, when we're together" (Like the oldies song) AND this song that is to the tune of Supercalifragalistic: "A-L-P-H-A-O-M-I-C-R-O-N-Pi, we know that you can say it if you really give a try, When asked the best sorority, I always do reply: A-L-P-H-A-O-M-I-C-R-O-N-Pi!" DG : "Come right in! Join the fun, our party's just begun, You know that we would like to meet you one by one We'll introduce you to all of our anchor crew You know the DG's want a sister just like you!" DDD: I LOVE ALL THEIR SONGS! They are all so catchy! "I'm a Delta Delta Delta" (Yankee Doodle tune) "Ba-doom ba-doom Tri Delta" "Tri Delt's There For You" (Friends Theme song) My KD chapter likes to add a little personality to our "K-A-P-P-A" song, because of a tradition and the fact that the DGs do the "D-E-L-T-A" one, and theirs is very upbeat and peppy. Ours goes a little something like this, and we clap differently, so they sound like 2 diff songs. "K-A-P-P-A Kappa K-A-P-P-A (what what?) D-E-L-T-A Delta D-E-L-T-A (who are we?) We are the Kappa Deltas, We are the one's for you, (woooo!) We are the Kappa Delta's, don't you wanna be a Kay Dee too?" A couple years ago, one of our sisters started yelling the "what what" and "who are we part." She died in April of last year, and we continue to add this in, knowing that Kim's tradition will live on. |

A-L-P-H-A-O-M-I-C-R-O-N-P-I, we know that you can say it if you really give a try, When asked the best sorority, we always do reply: A-L-P-H-A-O-M-I-C-R-O-N-P-I! When I was a freshman, down at GSU There were so many other greeks I knew not what to do, But these three letters gave me chills from my head down to my toes, A-L-P-H-A-O-M-I-C-R-O-N-P-I!! |
