pledgemarasl 09-09-2002 12:16 PM

i love those commercials, i think they are hilarious. although i think dede's feelings were a little hurt by the whole man voice thing. that was cruel.

but the one with me talking about my boyfriend was so funny. really puts it all in perspective, we are all so damn petty!!!

ah well, nice to have something to laugh at when all is said and done

enjoy the finale!

texas*princess 09-09-2002 12:42 PM

ahhh yes.... the instant replay barbie slap :p

and i thought that man's voice thing was kinda cruel too...

definately going to be an interesting epsiode i'm sure... is everyone going to be "chatting" here @ GC while the show is on?

KappaKittyCat 09-09-2002 12:56 PM

As long as I can wrest a TV from my family, I will be chatting on commercials. The computer & TV are not in the same room.

I think using a man's voice for Dede was a little cruel. She's an awesome chica; I would like to have seen more attention paid to her. But they did have a point about the sorority's helping her work on her driving skills. It seems that all she ever does is drive the drunk taxi.

Mara, will you be watching?

violets 09-09-2002 02:22 PM

I can't wait for tonight! I have to admit that I am fully hooked on this show. (Even though it makes me furious sometimes.) The barbie doll ads were the funniest things I have seen on MTV in years!
dzandiloo: I can completely understand your daughter's distress at not being able to get her hands on those SIGMA barbies! You're going to have to get pretty crafty this christmas and turn a Princess Babrie in a Jordan Pledge Barbie. All I can say is get out that glue gun!

I think they all go active except mara and jordan.

Jhawkalum 09-09-2002 02:48 PM

For some reason I don't seem to get bored with this show -- even when I've watched it for the third time. I think some of the actives really need to relax (I think some of them just need to get laid) and stop being so concerned about people's where abouts at formals. Who really cares if Mara and Jordan slept in a different hotel? Pauli had already made it abundantly clear she didn't like Jordan anyway - so why did she care if Jordan slept somewhere else?

In Leslie's defense, I think she's awesome and handles herself professionally at all times. I feel sorry for this sorority, because it's been exploited at everyone else's benefit -- but I love to watch it!

ChiOJenn78 09-09-2002 02:53 PM

Haha, I'm watching the marathon just for the Barbie commercials-they are so funny!! Definately the prize-winner. But Dede's man voice is freaking me out. I liked the one where they're like, "Cece? Who? Does she even live here??" Haha! :D

If I were up to me, only Dede, Candace and maybe Jessica and/or Mara would be initiated. I didn't like Candace at first, but I do now that she dropped her" conspiracy-do you think she was planted here-someone's out to get us" deal. But Amanda and Jordan need to go. I'm sorry, you just can't scream "F**k you and you" to sisters and nothing happens. They have bad attitudes. Ladies, there's the door....

pledgemarasl 09-09-2002 04:14 PM

yes i will be watching, i love to see what they do with the show. not to mention that my parents are totally addicted.

in response to the big sis thing, those were the big sisters who came in to talk to us, jessie is dede's, stacy is candace's, and pauli is amanda's.

jordan's big sis wasn't there. and my big waited to talk to me on campus where there were no cameras. and that is why i love her, she's really awesome and deserves much more credit than she gets on the show!

KappaKittyCat 09-09-2002 04:58 PM

Yeah, Mara, I noticed on the last episode that your big sis had talked with you and then changed her mind about the vote, that she had voted for selection and that after talking with you she wanted to take her vote back. Your comment was that, while you were glad that she talked to you, the order should have been different. Y'all should have talked first, then voted. I'm glad that you two have become such close friends. MTV showed very little big/little interaction after the revelation, but we all know we can't rely on them to show what really happened.

My parents totally make fun of me for watching the show. I'm glad that yours are addicted right along with the rest of us and that you can laugh about everything. I think I'd be too upset about being misportrayed to laugh at it.

RockChalk 09-09-2002 06:11 PM

Question for Mara

When what's-her-name came up to Jordan and said "I can't believe the way you disrespected my sisters," was she aware that Jordan's grandma had just died? Even though I don't approve of what Jordan did, I think it was really rude of the sister to say that when Jordan was already so upset.

Peaches-n-Cream 09-09-2002 06:36 PM

I think that I missed an episode. The last one I saw had Jordan screaming F*@% you to some of the sisters. I felt bad of her.:(

Jhawkalum 09-09-2002 06:51 PM

Sorry to stray from the original topic - but one thing I noticed something when I watched all the episodes again. Pauli started criticizing Jordan (or someone else, could have been taken out of context) about how she shouldn't be running around in little tube tops "flaunting her breasts."

I don't care one bit if women choose this for themselves -- who hasn't done this in college at some point? But in the following clip they show Paul wearing a tight white top that you could see her bra through -- it was pretty obvious what she was wanting to show off! Sometimes the hypocrisy on this show is unbelievable!

ps- I think MTV owes Dede an apology, I thought the Barbies were funny until I saw that.

stargirl725 09-09-2002 08:49 PM

Does anyone else find it hilarious that Dede just happened to be the designated driver (D.D.!) for the whole series?

Or have I had too much sugar today?

XOMichelle 09-09-2002 08:54 PM

I am watching the marathon too!

I must say, although I think Jordan is a drama queen (there's a part when she's home for her grandma's funeral and her mom says exactly the same thing!), I can't believe how mean the sisters are to the pledges. If the actives were that hard on our pledges, we wouldn't have any! The one girl says that they are being made fools of. I think they are making fools of themselves!
Lets see what happens!
-M

KappaKittyCat 09-09-2002 09:39 PM

Only one hour to go. I can't wait!

Excelsior301 09-09-2002 11:06 PM

well, the final episode of sorority life just aired, and i feel a little misty-eyed:(
i didn't like the way jordan went around the pledge group and was trying to basically force them to quit with her. i was also surprised the mara didn't go through initiation.
I'm just glad that in the end, everyone seemed happy with their decisions and I can't wait until all the dilemma starts with the next season:)

librasoul22 09-09-2002 11:22 PM

WOW!!! Mara quit?? Shocker! I thought the final show was the best one. It showed that through ALL OF THAT, people can actually come together. After all of the wild editting, wild pledges, and wild EVERYTHING it seems that sisterhood was acheived.

Jordan - Love her still. She SO reminds me of myself about 3-4 years ago. This whole thing will teach her a lot about herself, and watching it will teach her even more.

Mara - You KNOW you coulda told us you were not going through with it!! ;) Hey, whatever makes you happy and as long as you did it for the right reasons, I say more power...

You ALL have to admit...everyone was screaming foul at first but by the time we were 4 or 5 episodes in, EVERY LAST one of y'all were hooked!! LOL!!

This was BY FAR my favorite new show of the season. The second one? Might not have the same effect as this season, but I will give it a try.

Dionysus 09-09-2002 11:24 PM

They didn't show their ritual. :(

Kitty_Kat 09-09-2002 11:37 PM

What happens???

I still have to wait 2 hours and I even have the hubby hooked now... (he's watching the marathon). What happens in the final episode? :)

AGDCHICA 09-09-2002 11:39 PM

Although I have to say I'm glad Jordan didn't go through with it.... you could tell she was just following what everyone else did!! She wasn't going to initiate.. and then when everyone went to blue and gold she decided she was going to go and take the quiz.. then when Mara went up and said she wasn't going to initiate Jordan magically appeared at her side saying the same thing!! What the hell?! Although I do believe it's good Mara got out if her heart wasn't in it, I do not think that was the time or place!!! That is a special day for the pledges.. and they pretty well ruined it for the rest of the girls... they were close friends with those girls... Yea it was the best episode of all!!!! I'm sad it's over though.. :'(

Iris 09-09-2002 11:40 PM

Kitty_Kat~

That's no fun asking! Just wait, watch and see! It was a pretty good sum-up for the final show.....

Iris

mmcat 09-09-2002 11:41 PM

did you expect them to?

sometimes, you just shut the door. you saw the hugs and the celebration and the first meeting with the whole crew.
i guess my questions would be who else depledged? they started with 14 and initiated 10. we know about two...what about the other two?

dsmmi12 09-09-2002 11:42 PM

Final Episode

The final episode of sorority Life just aired and I am SOOO GLAD!!! Although I am a member of Delta Sigma Theta a NPHC organization with a VERY different pledge process....... I am still embarassed for the entire GREEK COMMUNITY.

These girls did NOTHING. At least nothing that was televised that was remotely difficult, challenging or even reflective of sisterhood. I know that MTV has the power of the camera and they must create a season that people will enjoy and come back too. There was actually an email circulating among the NPHC orgs back when the concept arose telling everyone to REFUSE the offer.

MTV trivialized their entire experience and SO DID THE GIRLS PLEDGING. These woemn lived in a Plush house....and stayed in the most exclusive suite in Las Vegas. HARDLY anything close to my pledge process or REAL LIFE for that matter. What was up with the "ghetto" comment while in San Francisco?????

I wonder if the women of the sorority modified the experience at all for the cameras. Did they hold back? I WISH I would have told one of my Big Sisters "Fuck you". I STILL will never tell some of the women who pledged me "Fuck you". WTF was up with that.

I look at some of the things that these girls did...they constantly expected someone to kiss thier butts and make everything convenient for them. I WONDER how they will treat the next "Pledge Class".

They should have dropped the whole enebriated house.

Had one of these girl been hospitalized during one of thier alchoholic binges...surely they would have been accused of hazing. lol

I am glad it is over! I feel sorry for people who are looking to pledge this quarter. Thanks to MTV they now have a warped sense of what it is all about......OR WAS THIS THE REALITY hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Dionysus 09-09-2002 11:46 PM

No, I really didn't expect them to show the ritual. But, it would've be cool if they did. Just out of sheer curiousity.

lifesaver 09-10-2002 12:01 AM

Seriously, I'm angry about it...

Ok, my final observations of the show.

1). I wont lie. I cant stand Jordan. I don’t understand what she is crying about either. "Its not right, I don’t belong , blah blah." My memo to her reads as follows;

MEMORANDUM

TO: Jordan Trailer Park
FROM: Lifesaver
DATE: September 9, 2002
RE: Your Lyin' Cheatin' Ways
__________________________________________________
I am sorry that you feel that you are the victim, when clearly you are the instigator of most of the problems that you're involved in. The victim thing is so passé anyway. After all, you got what you wanted, and to those of us who are Greek, it was very obvious. You were out for your 15 minutes. You got it. We have some lovely parting gifts for you, thank you for playing. Now get off the stage.

This crying bit,"You don’t understand what I am going through, I just lost my grandfather." Um. NO. Yeah, you're the only one on the freaking planet who's ever lost a relative. Shut up brofore I smack you like I'm related to you. Didn’t they say Mara had just lost a relative too? She wasn’t carrying on like that. Also I find it interesting that NOW the spit of grief has come over you. Sure didn’t seem to be bothering you when that stripper had her tittys in your face after you ditched formal.

(Am I the only one who found the obvious FLAW in their lie, when they said they were scared when they got to formal, "the people walking by" quote I believe it was. If that was the case, you get there and stay. They didn’t say they were afraid of the peeps INSIDE the hotel. So you get there and you stay there. You don’t go outside of you are afraid of the peeps outside. But interesting enough you were fine to GO OUTSIDE and catch a cab and go running around the streets of San Fran. Sorry the Catholic School girl routine dont cut it with me.)

Also, being a pledge isn’t that hard. YOU SHUT THE FU*K UP FOR 3 MONTHS, DO AS TOLD, AND YOU'RE IN. This tired routine of , "oh I cant handle it, yall don’t understand." Shut up. Seriously. You need to understand that you are joining something larger than yourself, it's an implied social contract. You give up certain rights to get others in return. You agree that at times you need to shut up, bite your lip, act like a lady, show some decorum, etc. whathaveyou for the benefits of sisterhood. I guess she was too busy drinking her way around Davis to spend enough time learning to be a lady. (Also what is this, "its too little too late" crap. Youre joining them, not the other way around. You need to get to know them. So cut that shit out)

This next part of the memo is to the sisters of SAEPi. Thanks. All of my GDI friends think ya'll are judgmental. They believe what MTV portrayed, that ya'll didn’t like her 'cause she's the pretty one. On behalf of the rest of us Greeks, thanx. We'll clean the mess up from here.

My last admonishment of the SAEPi gals. I bout fell outta my chair when that PLEDGE trash told a sister to fu*k off. Yall looked the DAYMN FOOL for still wanting to initiate her after that. Not only would a motherfu*ker be cut if he tried that crap in my house, but hed get a well deserved ass whoopin after. I would assume that your org means as much to you as mine does to me….so why even extend her the opportunity for sisterhood after that. It made yall look cheap and pitiful.

I don’t get the whole Mara thing. Its obvious Jordan talked her out of it. Just like she tried to do with that big nosed gal. She didn’t fall for it but obviously Mara did. Jordan didn’t want to be the only one "who got beat down by it all" or whatever…her words, not mine.

Proof is in the pudding: She showed her manupalitive hand when she called the sisters to say she wanted to take the test and was on her way. She knew she just wanted the drama of going up on stage and telling them off. She had her mind made up 3 days earlier. It was obvious.

When this all started, we all figured it would be just MTV screwing over the sisters. Turns out they got it from both ends. MTV and their pledges. Need a cigerette? You just got fu*ked.

SAEPi: Please dont bitch about my observations and comments. If you didn’t want them, you shouldn’t have sold out to MTV where we could all watch.

Was a couple of cases of Diet Pepsi really worth all this?

UMgirl 09-10-2002 12:09 AM

LMAO

I am sorry for laughing but I had a really bad day and the above post just made it better :D

texas*princess 09-10-2002 12:22 AM

lol you truly are a lifesaver... i was buried in Stats homework and randomly decided to read posts to procrastinate a lil. Your memo made me laugh so much!

ZTAMiami 09-10-2002 12:23 AM

I just want to point out and give due respect to Leslie and Leah. I believe these ladies have the true spirirt of sisterhood in their hearts. Leslie was upset about the events of the whole quarter and commented on how it was a learning experience. I really felt forher when she was crying outside the blue and gold dinner. I think SAEPi will grow stronger after this especially since Jordan and Mara took the initiative and left on their own. I'm glad they did for the sake of the organization as a whole.
I really hope that next seasons sorority has taken notes from this.

SATX*APhi 09-10-2002 12:55 AM

I was really sad to hear that Jordan and Mara did not initiate. I know a lot of you feel otherwise, but these girls were treated like crap. Did you ever see the pledges and sisters hanging out with each other?? No! And that isn't b/c MTV edited out; the girls say so themselves! When I was a new member, I hung out with the sisters quite a bit. I take Jordan and Mara's side, obviously. I won't say any more b/c then I will continue to rant.

PandaOnProzac 09-10-2002 01:53 AM

If Mara and Jordan go on this board I just want to say good luck with whatever you pursue. If you decide to go greek again I hope you two find the sorority that fits you and hold ideals that you agree with.

PLEASE say it aint so PLUCKY!!!!!

PandaOnProzac 09-10-2002 02:13 AM

When I first saw the show I thought it might give the general public too much fuel for the fire of the Greek stereotype. However after seeing all the shows I think it gave a good idea of what brotherhood/sisterhood is all about. Even in the President's sorrow of feeling like her sorority tears people apart you can see she cares for her sisters and would be sisters. I think every Greek took something away from this show and at times maybe identified with what went on. I kinda feel for what they went through.

Krisco 09-10-2002 02:18 AM

I agree with you dsmmi, how much azz kissin' did they need??? Mara is clearly a follower. Jordan is not right unless she's in the light, period. She could've NEVA, EVVVVA stepped into the Crimson walls of DST!

SoCalGirl 09-10-2002 02:34 AM

Oh my!

I just totally got this image of drunk Jordan going SMACK into a big Crimson wall and falling flat on her a$$!

MsVixen 09-10-2002 02:56 AM

final episode

i am glad that jordan didnt pledge... she would have torn that fragile sisterhood apart with her negative, destructive, forever victim attitude. playing mom and then not taking responsibility for anything you do is not mature, much less blaming your faults on everyone else, insisting to always be the victim.\

i was sad that mara didnt pledge... i think she could have made it a good thing for herself.. but thats a personal choice.

LeslieAGD 09-10-2002 08:13 AM

It was nice to see some sincere sisterhood for once, but I thought it was really not cool for Jordan to get up and make that speech at the beginning of what was supposed to be a very special night. Thanks for the negativity, Jordan! I thought Mara's speech was much more appropriate...she changed her mind and kindly said that it just wasn't her time.

It was nice to see all the girls at the meeting at the end...wow! They were actually smiling and enjoying themselves! What a concept!

zchi2 09-10-2002 08:58 AM

In regards to the sisters of Sigma:
I don't understand why some of they came over to bake the house pledges cookies and write them cute poems so late in the process. Did they do that for the rest of the pledges? Probably not. You don't beg NO ONE to be your sister. If you start kissing a#! just to have someone join your organization, you have to continue to kiss it to keep them. It's not worth it. If the sisters wouldn't of done that if the sisters were acting the way they thought a pledge should act, then the sisters shouldn't of done anything. It's like they were rewarding them for being disrespectful. They should of never waited until the last week of pledging to clean up their mess. I really hope they make a lot of changes from this experience.

to Mara and Jordan:
why Why WHY did they wait until the day of initiation to make their grand speech???! They planned all of that before hand. Did you all hear Jordan say something like she doesn't know how she can do her big speech in the end? That was so rude. From the minute they got in the house, they had problems. If they really had a problem with the sisterhood, they should of left a LONG time ago. Why did Jordan even take the test? That was some bull! They tried to ruin the entire night for EVERYONE. That made me soooooo mad.

maggieaxid 09-10-2002 09:39 AM

Ok, i think we all either knew that either jordan was going to depledge or get kicked out. I wouldn't be surprised if MTV gave her money just to go through the process.

As for the Mara thing, obviously a follower. I think that she decided not to do it when she realized that Jordan- her butt buddy was seriously not going to do it and didn't want to be left with Amanda and Candace. She honestly did not give any concrete reasons (that we saw) that she didn't want to be initiated....or did i miss that?

DeDe totally cracked me up last night with her little speech "either do it, or don't do, its a sorority! if ya don't like it, don't do it!"... i think she was sick of them all.

I really liked the end though when Candace was like "its like going to church and wondering if you are the only person who isn't feeling god...thats how i felt the entire time until initiation, and then I finally felt the sisterhood."

i thought that was so sweet!

DWAlphaGam 09-10-2002 09:40 AM

I nearly had a heart attack this morning...

when I turned on the radio and heard the dj's discussing the final episode of Sorority Life. Frist of all, they were not greek, so they had no idea what they were talking about, and they completely believed that what they saw on MTV was how it really was. Then, they actually asked people "who graduated a long time ago and don't care anymore" to reveal their rituals!!!  Thank goodness the two women who did call in and said they would tell their rituals didn't reveal the names of their organizations and didn't say anything more specific than that you wear white and sing and learn a secret handshake. I just fired off an e-mail to them to explain the difference between "Sorority Life" and real life. So, there are some of the reprecussions we were all talking about before!

ROFL. I haven't heard that one in a long time. :D

Hey, Jordan. Buh. Bye. I hear the Man Show is having girls jumping on trampoline auditions, but you might have to de-crunch the hair a tad bit because if you jump too high it will completely destroy what's left of the ozone layer.

Mara - congrats on being the new "Amanda" in Jordan's life.

Amanda - congrats on finally growing a backbone. I was so glad to see that she decided to make a decision independent of Jordan and do what SHE wanted to do.

Candace - I think she might have started for the camera time but surprised herself by actually making some connections.

And MAJOR MEGA PROPS to Leah for saying "We didn't break them down." She was absolutely right.

Thrillhouse 09-10-2002 10:12 AM

The more I watched it, the more I thought Jordan was in it for the MTV exposure. It may be rude to say but without her, there would hardly be any drama.

The last episode was good, it was good to see some sisterhood for once. And I admit, I was hooked on the show too.
