Me First and the Gimme Gimmes
Punk supergroup composed of members from NOFX, Lagwagon, and No use for a Name. They take classic songs (Uptown Girl, Mrs. Robinson, Take on Me, My favorite things, Phantom of the Opera) and remake them as punk songs. My personal favorite is the remake of Barry Manilow's "Mandy" |

They were much better as Kara's Flowers. |
Music is my thing. I have a rock music website hwich can be found @ http://www.digital-noise.net
I'm a bit of a hard rock and metal nut, so here's my list of bands I wish would become larger or get more fans: Brand New - They're an emo band. They're good. Find out more go to http://www.brandnewrock.com Beloved - Hardcore band. If you like screaming bands check them out. They're on Solid State Records. Here's their website: http://www.belovedrock.com Every Time I Die - They're not a death metal band, believe me. Don't judge the band by the name. They're a hardcore band, but they're kinda zany and manic sounding. Go here: http://www.ferretstyle.com/hotdamn/ and check out the media player if you like heavy music Tub Ring - they will be the most weird band you'll ever hear. They blend so many styles it's not even funny. Songs are here: http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/110/tub_ring.html Authority Zero - They're a punk/ska band from Arizona. Fun fun fun band. Check them out: http://www.authorityzero.com/ Skindred - Reggae funk metal. Think a metal band with reggae vocals. Very unique stuff. Check out their media player here: http://skindred.reddplayer.com/module/player/player.htm I could go on for ages. Anyways, yeah, plugging my website: http://www.digital-noise.net - interviews, reviews, editorials, videos, news, all on rock music. fun times. |
Blue Rodeo
Rolling Stone says that America's best new band may be from Canada. Great country music. Try "Alone." My favorite new country band. Dimmu Borgir European Metal. This band rocks. Jag Panzar More European Metal Dream Evil If you want to rock, try this one. Beautiful Creatures Try the song, "Kick Out." |
ha, I've heard of almost all of these bands and I've been listening to half of them for years. ALL YOUR BANDS ARE BELONG TO ME.
Anyway, if you like hardcore I recommend: From Autumn to Ashes I just saw them last week with Everytime I Die, Funeral for a Friend, and Cave In. Super show. "Short Stories with Tragic Endings" is a good song to acclimate you to the rocking that is FATA. If you like it a bit more on the pop/punk tip I recommend: Coheed and Cambria The lead singer's voice is so darn cool and fun to sing along with. And if you like to straight up rock I recommend The Alkaline Trio You may have heard of them but that doesn't make them any less cool. |
Some personal faves:
2 Skinnee J's Chainsaw Kittens Pavement Ween |
I was looking back on the list and so far 3 of these artists/bands have come into the mainstream:
* Jason Mraz * Maroon5 * O.A.R Is that good or bad??? |
i'm really into male singer/songwriters right now...some good up & coming guys are:
matt nathanson sondre lerche marc broussard ari hest jj appleton also, if you're into bands like o.a.r. then you should check out: virginia coalition (VACO) guster brown couch |
one band that i used to love was earthsuit.
their music blended the sounds of maybe snow (remember that corny reggae rap sounding white artist) meets linkin park. an odd combination but somehow it worked. i still have their album but i dont really listen to it anymore. it would have been nice to see them get a lot of recognition when they first came out. they would have probably been a one hit wonder. they were semi popular in the christian music world. |
Speaking of OAR, Guster, et al...............
I miss Dispatch. Terribly. :( |
KSRC, how about the Puddle of Mud, new, or the Chessmen? Where were they from?
Show me your stuff big dog!:) |

Seemed like a nice dude, though - he came out into the crowd and had a beer after his set was done, and watched the main act. Anyway - I've checked out the majority of the bands on here that I hadn't heard of and fit my listening style - some good, some were awful, but that's another post. A couple more from me: Ben Lee - hard to describe, sort of flits between Jason Mraz-ish and David Gray-ish, but a little more mellow (says kate) Zero7 - The CD "Simple Things" should appeal to almost everyone's tastes somewhere along the way - atmospheric, somewhat electronic, but also vocal and introspective C-Rayz Walz - DefJux rap, not much more needs to be said The Raveonettes - The fact that the White Stripes are millionaires and these guys aren't is ridiculous - "Great Love Sound" might be the best song I've heard in years and an old favorite - The Slackers, a 'trad'-ska band from NYC transplanted to Tim Armstrong's Hellcat Records - lyrically amazing, and the reggae- and soul-tinged instrumentals transcend the generally niche-market sound of the genre |
You get any Immigrants yet, MF?

Dispatch! Man. Good stuff. Guster too, but I liked their early stuff better. And of course O.A.R. but I think you can pretty safely say they're mainstream now.
So I dated a guy this summer who was all into punk rock and so I recognize a lot of the names here.... although granted I'd only heard them in like the last 3 months. Still, though. Recognition is key. I think his favorite was the Minutemen, but Rancid and a couple others were well represented in his collection as well. Anyone heard of Well Built? I dated their drummer, Bill Ledbetter, when I was 19 (3 yrs ago.) I just ran into him again last Sunday.... apparently he joined WB since then and they won some Battle of the Bands thing and won a trip out to L.A. to record some stuff. Has ANYONE heard of them? Because I hadn't heard a thing... and now he's got a 9 mo. old son. Weird. I don't like thinking that people I've dated are starting to marry/reproduce. |

LBCT!!! This was my ex-boyfriend's favorite band in his freshman year of high school. Memories . . . I think they broke up, actually. I remember them saying that they were going to break up, and then I saw them playing a few shows about a year after that, and since then I haven't heard anything. Their website is here: http://www.lbct.com/ Another fun Wisconsin band is I Voted for Kodos -- I've been a fan since December '99, which feels like FOREVER ago. They're actually starting to get kind of big; they have fans all over the US and tons all over Wisconsin. I went to Summerfest this summer and counted three kids in IV4K shirts. They're really Reel Big Fish-esque, a little bit like Less Than Jake. They were travelling with Warped Tour for a while this summer. This thread is so funny to me -- I used to be big into punk and emo and indie about three or four years ago, so Kara's Flowers and At the Drive-In and Further Seems Forever were all familiar names. It's so weird to know that none of them exist (well, at least not as they were) anymore! |
Give your Wisconsin band votes to The Gufs you hippies...
Yes, they are still together for those of you that know of them. |

Florida rocks :)
VonRay - www.vonray.net
awesome awesome awesome band from Orlando. if you like Sister Hazel, R.E.M., etc. type music you will like this. They are just now starting to get some recogntion - just signed w/a major label. They spent the last few years touring a lot and worked their way up the food chain - opening for the opening band for the opening band for Barenaked Ladies, opening for Third Eye Blind in local shows, opening for Creed nationwide, to finally headlining their own shows. They had a song on "Smallville" last season and two of the band members had a cameo! My brother and I are practically groupies - we've seen so many of their shows and the band recognizes us now. They just filmed their video at a concert we were at this summer - I might end up on MTV! SomeOtherLife - www.someotherlife.com good hard rock band, also from Orlando. there's two mp3 songs you can download. both very very good. Chuck Carrier - now in a band called "Marathon" - used to play in Gainesville all the time, opened for Sister Hazel a lot. Now apparently in Atlanta? haven't heard from them in awhile. Released a solo cd when i was in undergrad called "Better Things Than I" which was fabulous - he could hold his own against John Mayer any day. Chuck Nash Band Used to be called Kingpins. another good rock band. Used to play in Gainesville a lot, now mainly in Jacksonville/St. Augustine. |

Imperial Teen
bis Zog Holly Golightly Before they broke up :( the Dismemberment Plan would use our house as their place when they were in town. One of our sisters is from DC and befriended them. There were a lot of local articles about the D-Plan sleeping in a sorority house. They were nice guys. |
Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise.
-Rudey --I don't have the time or care much to wade through and see what names are already on there today. |
I am bumping this thread because Kill Hannah is an unbelievable band, and you all will rock out to them the first time you hear them.
I suggest 'Kennedy' and 'Unwanted.' |
Last but certainly not least-Bad Charism AKA Bad Chairs-From Ocean Springs, MS
I know the Bad Charism band members-we were all in school together! :) Only in passing, though. My social circle was none. Anyway, I have to add Every Little Thing-cute Japanese girl band that actually has an amount of talent. |
from Boston:
The Unseen The Showcase Showdown Dropkick Murphy's (skinhead on MTA days) from the whole world that isn't boston: Crispus Attkus Furious George Blanks 77 The Misfits (I know you probably know these bands but wanted to help educate people) The cAsualties The Business Crass One Way System and the greatest punk rock band ever! The Skidm@rks! And yes, that's an Anarchy sign. |

I really like Lucky Boy's Confusion (and I know some others on here do too). They're a little more mainstream than most of the other bands listed, but I think it might be a Midwest thing... And fine, Blaine, the Gufs. I'll probably get mauled for this, but I've seen Face to Face live and did not enjoy them AT ALL. |
