Wow, it sounds like you are in one heck of a situation. I don't envy you, but I sure can relate very well. I knew several girls in one of the houses on my campus when I rushed, and it was difficult because they were super nice to me and I didn't want to disappoint them if I didn't choose their house when I rushed. Rush is a trying time for everyone involved, and when it got down to the last day for me I was on the phone with my mom crying because I couldn't choose which houses to pref since there were three that I really loved. (One of which my friends were in.)
My mom, knowing that I can be a little over dramatic(and who isn't when they are 17) said to choose the one where I felt most at home and go from there. So I did....and for the other two, undemocratic though it may be since they both had the same pluses, I flipped a coin. Pref night for me was insane, I went to one of my coin flips first and I loved them, I was so convinced that was where I wanted to be. Then I went to my comfy house, and wasn't so sure anymore. In the end, I ended up where I should have been in the first place. (And it turned out my rush counselor was an AOII as well, who knew?) Regardless of what happens, I know that you will be a benefit to any chapter that you decide to join. Best of luck with your decision, and remember to follow your heart. Roses, Suzanne |
JustHey,
I know you will make the best decision for you no matter what. I believe that the AOII girls are being honest when they say they will still be your friend. When I went through rush I knew a lot of girls in another organization, but we were still best friends after rush was over even though I was in a different house. Living on the floor must complicate things more than I could ever imagine. What everyone else has said about following your heart is the best advice anyone can give. Most of the time your first instinct is the right answer whether on a test or choosing a sorority. So just sit down for a second and see where that first instinct takes you. Keep in mind that sometimes we try so hard to NOT play favorites that it actually pushes us away from something that could be great. Please don't think I am trying to push you toward or away from AOII. I know you will be an asset to any house whether AOII or not, so have fun and make the right decision for YOU and no one else :) |
Well, I just got my invitations for pref night, so here it goes:
I got invited back to all three (the three I went to last night, ASA, DZ and AOPi)!!!!!! I am the HAPPIEST girl in the whole world. When I went to get my invitations, I was SO nervous, because THREE of the girls in from of me were heavily cut, and I was so nervous bc they are so much cuter and sweeter and smarter than me, so I was completely nervous when I went in after them. I almost cried when I found out all three invited me to pref, so I didnt know what to do at all. I did make my descision and I am very happy with it though. I decided to drop ASA. All of my freinds told me I am dumb to cut ASA, because, from what I get they are the prettiest, most popular girls or whatever with the most money and nicest cars and hottest boyfriends, and sure, things like that CAN be important, and I did really REALLY like them a lot, and they have some REALLY sweet girls, but when it came right down to it, I could see myself being good freinds with many of them, but not sisters. I just felt like I didnt really belong in ASA because I just didnt fit in like I think I should have. It makes me really emotional, because I had tears in my eyes during and after thier party last night because I loved them so much. But I soon realized that I did LOVE them, and thats okay, but I didnt neccesarily belong WITH them. I am totally relieved after that experience. So tonight, I go to Pref at AOPi at 7:00 (yeah, I already found out the order), and I go to Delta Zeta at 8:00 I think. I am REALLY really happy and excited for Pref night, and I am already feeling emotional in anticipation for the events that are going to take place tonight. Of course, I do have a favorite, which is Delta Zeta. I think these girls are just AMAZING, and I feel like I would love to call every single one I met a lifelong sister, but I would be perfectly happy if I was not bid by DZ, and AOPi bidded me instead. I would not regret being cut by either house, because if they cut me, then they must know better than I where I belong, so I am not really nervous about the actual Bids, I am just really anxious to find out who (if anywhere) I am going to be spending Bid Day with tomorrow!!!! PS, to any AOPis or Alpha Sigs out there, keep in mind I had a VERY good impression of both of these houses, and I dont feel negatively toward either one (and maybe after tonight, AOPi might even be my favorite over DZ!!) |
Congrats! Have a great time at pref. :)
|
Have a great time at Delta Zeta and Alpha Omicron Pi tonight! Congrats on going where you want to be for Pref, I'm so happy for you.
Christin |
Wow, how exciting for you! I definitely hope that your pref parties make your decision easy for you to make. You will know where your heart is leading you at pref! Wherever that may be, listen to your heart and you will find friends forever!
Tell us how everything went when you get back! We are pulling for you! dzsaigirl :) |
I'm so excited for you. Congratulations on being invited back to all 3 even though you had to make the tough choicel.
Have a great time at pref, and listen to your heart. It will all be clear after the parties tonight. Either organization will be benefited from having you as a sister, even if I am a bit biased:D (and don't worry we won't be offended if you still like DZ more ;) ) |
I can't wait to hear how pref went!!! :D I hope that both houses made you feel very comfortable tonight and that you were able to get a glimpse of the sisterhood that awaits you in the sorority you choose. :)
Good luck! Give us details as soon as you can! We're all on pins and needles!!! :D :D :D |
Congratulations on your decision...can't wait to hear who you pick in the "bigger" decision! Good Luck!
|
How did pref go? When will you find out if you got a bid?
|
Well ladies, (and for the few gentlemen that might be tuning in), I am getting ready to go pick up my bid, if there is one. Pref went great last night. The pref ceremonies, I guess you would say, were beyond beautiful. I was emotional at both places. AOPi because I have already started to grow close to those girls, and DZ because I know that is where my heart is. I put DZ first on my pref, then AOPi, and then (since we could put more) I went ahead at put ASA in the third spot, and I left the fourth spot blank. I am really excited to go see who my new sisters are, and I know that no matter what, I will be happy!!
|
best of luck to you !!!
|
Good luck, JustHey! I can't wait to find out where your new home will be, DZ is a great organization and not surprisingly I can't say enough good things about AOII. You've had a great attitude throughout and any sorority would be proud to call you one of their new members!
Christin |
Ok....JustHey is obviously running around with her new sisters, having a great time, totally oblivious to the fact that inquiring minds want to know if she's decked out in rose and green or cardinal!!!!
Just kidding JustHey! Enjoy your special day with your sisters; whomever they may be! :) PS This doesn't mean that we don't expect an update!!!!!! |
Yeah, c'mon we have to know if we have a new sister or not ;)
|
Well, hello everyone. I sure didnt mean to keep anyone in suspense, but, obviously I have been busy, and right after bid day, I came home to my parent's for the weekend because I havent seen my family in FOREVER. So saturday, I went to pick up my bid, to see:
The ladies of the Chi Theta Chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority would like to extend this bid to you. (or something like that)!!! I was happier than I thought I would be. I was one of the first girls to pick up my bid, so when I went to go meet the president and recruitment chair (my nieghbor next door, and my neighbor across the hall, hehe) they were extatic to see me as the first girl to go AOPi of the morning. I got my tshirt and tiarra and roses and stuff, and we waited for all the other new members of AOPi to get to the room. ONce a few more girls came, we started learning cheers immediately, because all of the sororities were next door to each other in rooms in the UC, and we had to beat each other out. It was soooooo fun. The, once all of the bids were handed out, and all of the new members were with thier new presidents and recruitment chairs, we went to the Spirit pit to find out our rho chis. All of hte rho chis, one by one took off thier sweaters to reveal thier letters, and we would go up and give them a hug. but then, we got a big surprise, they all started being like, wait, these arent my letters, yeah, i am missing some, and stuff like that. So then, they had a little strip show to reveal thier real letters and we ran to hug our REAL returning rho chis to our sororities. Then, we all went upstairs to the sorority floor to see all of the rest of the sisters lining hte halls cheering us on. When some of the girls saw me, they were soooo happy, and they RAN out of line to give me a hug, and a lot of girls cried and said how glad they were to have me as a sister, and how nervous they were that I might go DZ. I am SO glad that I didnt, now. ONe, because they must have known (subconcisiously or not) that the AOPis loved me and wanted me so badly, so I felt so good that they were just so nice to me. Then, we took a fire truck around town cheering and singing the new AOPi songs we learned. Then we went to a picnic anc played games, then we went skating, and it was just a blast. There are 20 girls (quota was 25) in my pledge class and they are 20 of the greatest girls I have ever met (about three of them already live on the floor with me), so we are going to have COB right after this week, so I am really excited to see if I get any MORE sisters. Also, the Phi Sigs are throwing a party for the new pledge class on Monday (monday nights and wed nights are party nights here) so I cannot even WAIT to get back to school to meet some of the fraternity men!! Thanks everyone for cheering me on, I couldnt be happier!!!!!!! |
Let me be the first to say...Congratulations!!! http://www.plaudersmilies.de/party/balloons.gif

panhellenically. "33" :D |
Okay...so I've been intentionally staying off this thread since I went to help my former Sigma chapter with recruitment last week, because I didn't want to have any "insider" information, so to speak!
First off, I'm so sorry I didn't get a change to meet you in person...I was looking for you all Wednesday night, and then I saw you right at the end of the party and didn't want to interupt you and Mandy Jo! Reading your recruitment thread was very interesting to me since I was on the WAY other side of this same recruitment, being an alumna advisor. I'm so glad to hear/read that you had such an enjoyable recruitment week and have found a home that you are happy with! I actually saw you walk into the AOPi room in the UC with a smile on your face, so I wasn't too shocked to come in here today and read this thread. (I was in the sigma room down the hall and had snuck out to get a drink of water!) It was a really competitive rush at NSU this year, with several girls not getting matched with their first choice which was very difficult to see. In case anyone was wondering how everyone else on campus did, here's the lowdown...quota was 25...as already stated, AOPi extended 20 bids, Alpha Sigma Alpha extended 25 bids, Delta Zeta extended 28 bids (quota plus 3), and "my girls" Sigma Sigma Sigma extended 29 bids (quoate plus 4). I don't know about the other chapters, but all the ladies who we extended bids to accepted! We got all our legacies, plus at least one from another sorority on campus! Okay, so in closing....I'm sorry I didn't get to meet you...you'll have to email me and next time you're in Tulsa, let's get together! And....CONGRATULATIONS on ALPHA OMICRON PI!! -Melissa |
