Anyone ready to start the thread for this year? I can contribute Miss Alabama's Greek affiliation…
|
When is Miss America? My husband's cousin (a Tri Delt) is competing for Miss Georgia this week.
|
September 10! Seven of the state pageants were last night. There are 18 next weekend (17 on Saturday night alone, plus Miss District of Columbia on Sunday), and they continue each weekend through the last ones on July 8.
|
Cousin was just named Miss Congeniality!

I've started the Miss America 2018 (2017 state winners) list. It is at http://wp.me/P20I1i-3ER.
Hopefully, there will be more names added after tonight's contests. I'm crossing my fingers for carnation's niece. |
Miss Arkansas 2017 is Maggie Benton a Chi Omega (alumnae) from the University of Arkansas. In the top 10 there were 2 Chi Omega's (UA), 2 Alpha Gamma Delta's (A-State), a Tri Delta (UA), an Alpha Delta Pi (UA) and 4 ????.
|
Here's my list of Greek women who've won their state titles so far…and it includes a sister of mine! :D
Miss Alabama - Jessica Procter, Alpha Gamma Delta (University of Alabama) Miss Arkansas - Maggie Benton, Chi Omega (University of Arkansas) Miss Delaware - Chelsea Bruce, Alpha Phi (University of Delaware) Miss Idaho - Taylor Lance, Alpha Chi Omega (Boise State University) Miss Michigan - Heather Kendrick, Sigma Alpha Iota (University of Michigan) Miss Nebraska - Allison Tietjen, Alpha Phi (University of Nebraska-Lincoln) Miss North Dakota - Cara Mund, Kappa Delta (Brown University) Miss South Dakota - Miranda Mack, Chi Omega (South Dakota State) Miss Wisconsin - McKenna Collins, Alpha Phi (University of Wisconsin-Madison)* *The most recent info I could find for this was an interview with Miss Collins from 2014, which was her freshman year, where she mentioned that she had joined Alpha Phi. |

Nowadays any Miss America contestant's bio is so much stronger than just her greek letters! |
Miss South Carolina Suzi Roberts is a Delta Gamma from the University of Texas at Austin! And first runner-up is a Clemson ADPi:)
|
Miss Mississippi is Anne Elizabeth Buys, Chi Omega from Mississippi State University
|
Miss Louisiana, Laryssa Bonacquisti, is a Chi Omega from L.S.U.
|
From tonight's results…still haven't heard who is Miss Oregon or Miss Puerto Rico yet.
Miss Florida - Sara Zeng, Alpha Chi Omega alumna, Florida State University Miss Texas - Margana Wood, Zeta Tau Alpha, University of Texas-Austin Miss Washington - Nicole Renard, Chapman University (CA) And I'm gonna double check previous mentions to see if my sleuthing has found any that haven't made Fran's list or this thread! :) |
I believe Ms. Renard was a Gamma Phi at Chapman.

I am hoping I've uncovered them all, but there seems to always be one who is flying under the radar. |
17 of 51 contestants (including Miss D.C., 52 if there's also a Miss Puerto Rico).
That's ONE THIRD of the competitors who are Greek (NPC)! |
You can vote for America's choice of the contestants for Miss America here: http://missamerica.org/vote/
The Miss America pageant is September 10th on ABC. |
I will be in Atlantic City for pageant week this year. I'm excited!
|
Miss Georgia just joined Zeta Tau Alpha at UGA as a new member! She rushed as a transfer sophomore, I'm not sure what school she was at freshman year.

Bumping...and, Miss Louisiana has won both the Lifestyle And Fitness and the Talent preliminaries in this year's contest. FWIW not every double prelim winner goes on to take the crown, but since Miss Louisiana is a Chi Omega and GC's own NutBrnHair is attending this year's contest perhaps the judges will make an exception ;)

Makes my heart warm that Cheerio views the videos before voting for America's choice for Miss America. My daughter was in the pageant in 2015 representing a non-sash state. She was a professional woman, GLO member, college grad (NM scholarship),and Master's degree student. Miss America was by far the hardest thing to achieve that she has pursued. Some southern states have figure out the formula to winning. Just like football. Others still waiting for that first Miss America.
The girls wish that they would go back to introduction of their school, GLO, and professional ambitions. But that is put of their control. The pageant is tonight, Sept 10, and I'll be watching, knowing that only 1 girl can win, but all are winners. Think of it as recruitment, but only 1 girl gets a bid to her first choice. Happy viewing everyone.... |
I admit it, I miss the wacky state costumes!
Good luck, Ladies! |
IU grad and ESPN analyst Sage Steele is a judge!
|
My money is on Miss Tennessee.

Sage Steele is actually one of the hosts, not a judge. :)
The judges are Jess Cagle, Miss America 2014 Nina Davuluri, Tara Lipinski, Maria Menounos, Jordin Sparks, Thomas Rhett, and Molly Sims |
Top 5:
Miss District of Columbia - Briana Kinsey - 3rd Runner Up Miss Missouri - Jennifer Davis - 1st Runner Up Miss New Jersey - Kaitlyn Schoeffel - 2nd Runner Up Miss North Dakota - Cara Mund - Kappa Delta - MISS AMERICA 2018 Miss Texas - Margana Wood - Zeta Tau Alpha - 4th Runner Up |
