FAB*SpiceySpice 01-17-2003 12:18 AM

I've only met one REALLY famous person and that was Katie Holmes. I've also met Chris Klein, the band O-Town, and Hulk Hogan hahaha.....oh yea, and the band KISS too :D....when they came to town the lead singer was sick so he went to see my mom (who's a doctor) and he gave her free backstage passes. Haha, it was interesting to say the least. ;)

LuaBlanca 01-17-2003 12:48 AM

My HS band played at Boston's Symphony Hall with Keith Lockhart. Martin Short was there to perform, and Helen Hunt was in the audience. I stole her pencil. (hahaha)
I also met that almost-but-not-quite-a-hit boy-band "C-Note" when they came to my local mall years ago. I was shopping with my older cousin and one of them asked for her number.
I also met Matthew Broderick, Vanessa Williams, John Stamos, and Christopher Seiber (the dad from "Two of A Kind" *he's on Broadway now*) just by hanging around before and after shows in New York City. Most people don't realize that most of the theaters don't have a "backstage" entrance/exit. The actors walk right out of those big doors with the pictures on them!

If anyone here is/was a drummer in a marching band, I'm good friends with Tom Aungst (the Vic Firth guy). He teaches the Cadets.

*edited to add: OOH! I can't believe I forgot to include meeting Mikhail Baryshnikov at a dance conference! Oh, he is so AMAZING!*

OMG!!!!! I'm prolly the only person on here who knows who Travis Ford is. I am so in love with him!!!!!!! AWWWW!!

Anyway, I havent' met any one famous. Unless you count Billy Ray Cyrus(country music singer/actor), who went to my high school. When a sorta friend died he came and paid for all of it so her family could rebuild their house. So that was really sweet. Other than that......that's it.

moe.ron 01-17-2003 05:15 AM

I've just met Nelson Mandela, Thabo Mbeki, and Jacob Zuma last week at the African National Congress 91st anniversary celebration. Woohoo.

Sorry Daisy, you're not the only one :) Travis was a cutie but he's no Kyle Macy!

You know how some people have rooms dedicated to their favorite team? Well, I've got Travis' 93-93 UK card in a frame on the wall in my UK Room (along with a ton of other stuff, including a piece of the '96 floor.)

I met George Takai (from Star Trek) when he spoke at a Student Council convention at my high school. He was really nice and has a cool voice. He's the only famous person I've ever met.

Nikki_DZ 01-17-2003 10:59 AM

I know who Travis Ford is, too :) Though sorry, UK fans...I didn't like him-hehe. I grew up rooting for IU.

Famous people:

-Puck, David, Melissa, and Nathan from the Real World spoke at BG for a Dance Marathon fundraiser and Steering Committee got to hang out with them afterwards. David and Nathan were very cool.
-Violent Femmes
-Antonio Daniels (did play for the Spurs, I'm not sure if he still does)
-Alan Jackson and Diamond Rio
-Kyle Petty (race car driver) had a lakehouse next door to my grandparents
-The guys from O.A.R.
-Assorted Cincy Reds and Bengals

The two best:
-Mark McGwire-the bar I used to work at in Cincy was frequented by Reds players after games. I used to chat with Sean Casey and his wife, and jokingly told them if they brought in Mark McGwire (whom I LOVE) I'd buy their dinners for the rest of the season. Sure enough, they brought him in with them the next time they played the Cards at home. Not paying any attention (Mark had his back to me) I walk up, say something obnoxious to the table as usual, and then said (classically), "Holy shit, you're Mark McGwire." Great first impression  Anyhow, he was totally cool, gave me a hug when they left (yeah!) and signed autographs for us.
-George Clooney. Yes ladies, I've sat on his lap! Granted, I was seven, but hey...LOL. When he was on the "Facts of Life" we were touring a studio his dad was shooting in on a field trip, and George was there. My best friend and I freaked out, being the little TV junkies we were, and had a picture taken with him. I had totally forgotten about it until my old teacher found the pic a few years ago and hung it up in her class. My little cousin told me about it, so I had to go get a look. Damn, if I had only known...Sigh ;)

ZetaLuvBunny 01-17-2003 11:09 AM

When I lived in Santa Barbara (Cali) as a toddler,
Gene Hackman was one of our neighbors.

My mom used to do massage therapy, and one of her clients was the wife of the VP of Warner Bros. She saw me as a little girl & said I should be in the movies. Unfortunately, my mom ignored her advice. :(

Another of my mom's clients was Mary Lou Retton (Olympic Gold Medalist in the 80s- Gymnastics). She was very nice & we still have a personalized autographed picture of her. She ended up starring in low-budget drug store commercials LOL.

This doesn't count for me- but my Aunt & Uncle have had dinner with George Bush, Sr.,* George Bush, Jr., Ronald Reagan, and one other former president (can't think of who right now). Let's just say my Aunt & Uncle are OBSESSIVE Republicans & they donated mucho $$$ to George W. Bush's campaign.

I also saw (but didn't meet up-close) Darryl Hammond from Saturday Night Live when he performed on campus during my freshman "Welcome Week". He was even funnier in person! He's the one who does the impressions of Bill Clinton & Al Gore, etc.

DeltAlum 01-17-2003 11:38 AM

I answered this post quite a while ago, but since it has popped up again, this one occurred to me while watching a TV commercial the other night.

When I was directing some NFL football for NBC years ago, I had a very nice chat with Howie Long at a Raiders practice prior to a Raiders/Broncos game.

Very bright fellow, and one of only a few professional athletes who really impressed me with intelligence as well as athletic ability.

ztabchbum 01-17-2003 12:56 PM

I grew up outside of LA and I know I met a bunch of tv personalities, actors/actresses, athletes. The people that I have met that I can remember are:

Ricky Schroeder - from Silver Spoons, and more recently NYPD Blue. I met him at his 13th (? I think) birthday party. I was REALLY young and all I know is what my mom told me - that I followed him around the entire night telling him that I loved him and wanted to marry him. Who doesn't??

Harry Connick, Jr. (on SEVERAL occasions) and Jody Foster - my little brother was the stand in for the lead kid in the movie Little Man Tate. I was like 10 or 11 and was just learning how to play the piano and where ever they were filming, Harry had to have a piano near by - he was working on a new album I think - anyway, I actually got to sit down at the paino with him while he played! He's just an amazing person. So down to earth and not to mention a total HOTTIE!

Hulk Hogan - I live in St. Pete, FL and he lives out in Clearwater. He also does a lot of promotional stuff with a car dealership I used to work at so I saw him there a few times.

Lenny Kravitz - My senior year of high school, one of my classes went to NYC and when we went to see Miss Siagon, he was there.

Sarah-Jessica Parker and Mathew Broderick - That same trip to NYC we went to this deli (I can't remember the name of it, but I know that it's the deli in the movie When Harry Met Sally). They were eating lunch together - two of the nicest people I have ever met.

I also grew up outside of Cleveland, Ohio and there were a bunch of Cavs players that lived in my town. The only one I can remember is Brad Doughrety (sp?). This was back in the early/mid-90's.

My dad's a sports junkie, especially basketball so I've met a bunch of old Laker players and a few Texas Rangers.

I went to Stetson University, and I've met Chipper Jones from the Atlanta Braves - he went to school at Stetson, although I don't think he finished. I met him during alumni weekend - he was at the local bar getting wasted.

Probably one of the most interesting, at least I think so, is my Dad. :) WAY back in the day he was on The Young & The Restless and Days of our Lives.

I've been to Truman's "Little White House" in Key West ( now a museum) and saw a listing of the organizations he was a member of. I saw Lambda Chi Alpha but I also saw Acacia listed. I was a little confused. Anyone know how he did this?

As for celebs:
I've been very close to many (as in the same room) but never actually met them. I'd feel like a dork going up to them and I wouldn't want to disturb them.

When Acacia was founded it was originally a requirement for membership that a man have taken his Masonic obligations (i.e. the obligation for the Entered Apprentice degree, at the very least, though it's probable that it meant the obligations for the Fellowcraft and Master Mason degrees). That requirement was dropped later on but Masonic lodges in campuses where there are Acacia chapters sponsor or assist them today, such as using the local Masonic lodge for initiation, etc.

Brother Truman was made an honorary member of Acacia before it joined the NIC. He later was initiated into Lambda Chi Alpha.

I myself have never really met anyone famous, but seem to know a lot of people who have. The closest I have ever come to meeting one was when Norv Turner (formerly a Redskins coach, now somewhere else but I forget where) nearly ran me over in a mall parking lot

My boyfriend's sister has interviewed Joan Jett and Dave Grohl. Also one of his other sisters was good friends with a pro football player's daughter (but I forget his name, you can see I know zero about football... he was pretty famous though... he's the one that drunkenly said something stupid to Sandra Day O'Connor) so they all knew him. My dad met Christian Slater on a plane, and the band Korn in an airport. And I don't know if this counts, but my grandfather knew the guy that Mel Gibson played in "We Were Soldiers" because... well, that was his unit in Vietnam. Oh, and one of my roommates in college's fiance is a cousin of Michael Tucker, a lesser-known pro baseball player. Also a good friend of mine is Greg Maddux's (sp?) cousin.

Maybe one day I'LL actually meet someone famous :p

There was an episode where Rose takes Dorothy and Blanche to a kiddie hot-dog restaurant for Dorothy's birthday, and he played one of the kids that was celebrating his birthday that same day (the character's name was Bobby Spina, he had red curly hair...still does :) ). There was an annoying clown in the scene, and Dorothy wanted to smash her cake in his face, but she didn't...that honor went to KSB.

I never believed that he had really done an episode of "The Golden Girls" until I visited his parents house and saw the picture of him with Bea Arthur and Betty White. He told me Betty White is very sweet, and that Estelle Getty thought he was really cute because KSB told her that his grandfather had a crush on her.

I KNOW THE EXACT EPISODE YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!!!!!!!
HE HIT MR. HAHA IN THE FACE WITH THE PIE?!??!?! I always thought that was Ben Savage!! HOW COOL!

Sorry, but that's one of my GG scenes ever!! "I'll rip your heart out, HaHa!" LMAO!!!!!!!!

I have Met Kelly Gruber, former 3rd basman for the Toronto Blue Jays (now that was back in the day) and I met Curtis Joseph and Edge from WWE.

She is't famous famous, but I'm pretty sure Canadians will know who I'm talking about. I met Laura Bertram from the Canadian tv show Ready or Not. She played Amanda Zimm. She was a student at Guelph and I believe graduated a year or 2 ago. She's now on the tv show Andromeda.

Fewdfreak 01-19-2003 04:09 AM

I met two guys from O-Town this summer. My friends and I were sitting at the tables on the sidewalk of this coffee shop and it's across the street from this big hotel. O-Town was doing a concert that night, and bunches of tour buses kept driving by, but we didn't think anything of it. We were looking over across the street near the Bennigins and there was this fine looking guy that was talking to some girls. My friend was like "That would be hella funny if that was O-Town or something." and we're like "Yeah, but it's not." So a little bit later we are walking around and we see this really fine guy with dreds and we go up and talk to him, we were all like "Yeah, I think we saw one of the guys from O-Town, he was kinda hot." and the guy was like "Yeah, he has a girlfriend." and then my friend is talking with him and he was like "Do you guys like O-Town?" and we are like "No, they are so fake, blah, blah, blah, Making the Band is stupid..." and he is like "I'm Jacob from O-Town" we didn't believe him, and what I guess what some roadie comes up and corroberates and then Dan, who was the guy that we saw earlier that we didn't think could be him, comes up and talks to us. We tell him our names and my friend gets him and Jacob to sign her dollar, and I get us all in a picture with them. Then they leave. I guess I wouldn't really consider them 'celebrities' but that is the most famous, if you will, people I've met.

One girl I went to high school with went up to 112's room when they came in to town, and supposedly got drunk with them. She's got pictures of her in their room so, hmm...

I got hit on by "Chunk" from the Goonies movie. When we went to LA a year ago, he is now a lawyer in LA and not so chunkier anymore. He seemed nice, but not quite my type. We met him, after my friend met another lawyer in the same firm. They were ll out at Skybar celebrating their law firm's anniversary. They were leaving in a limo to go to the House of Blues and invited us with, but we declined. But I always wonder what would've happened if we had gone with. We also met someone with a minor role on ER.

I interviewed the country band Montgomery Gentry for my college newspaper and got to see Lone Star a few feet away. They were very nice and very Kentuckyish ( which is an awesome thing since they remind me of family) and I went into their tour bus.

Met Counting Crows at a meet and greet, and met various people from the Real World series'

And I have meet brass in Illinois and Missourri Govt if you consider them celebs.

Eclipse 01-20-2003 01:41 AM

I've met:
El and James DeBarg back in the 80s. I was about 16 and they tried to convince me and my cousin to go upstairs to their hotel room after a concert! Child molestors! LOL
Cicily Tyson
Magic Johnson--gave him a tour of my college when he was a spokesperson for UNCF
Adriene Johnson--the mother on Baby Boy--pre famous days--we went to college together
Bill Cosby--when they were filming the Hillman College episodes of the Cosby Show
George Raveling (former head basketball coach of --I think--USC-- may it was UCLA??)--introduced him at a banquet that he was doing for my father's hs basketball team
Chris Tucker

Other random sports stars as well....

I've heard this rumor about them going to several different schools, including Allegheny College which is somewhat near Pittsburgh.

None of the rumors make sense, they could get into pretty much any school they wanted.

As far as i've found, i haven't seen their college plans confirmed anywhere on the net or in the news.
