Well said 5point, as I listen to Gary P Nunn, Guadalupe Days.
I could never live anywhere else. This place not only is in my soul, it is my soul. The hill country, 281, praries of west texas, music, food and the spirit of the people. Having orange blood from being an avid Longhorn fan, and being so passionate about it, yet getting a little hot under the collar if some jack ass from outta state talks smack about the aggies. "I might not like 'em, but thats MY business, not yours." Artists like Cory Morrow, Pat Green, Roger Creager, Robert Earl Keen. I was getting off a Southwest flight a few weeks back and the people behind me were on a connecting flight. As we were disembarking the plane, the fella behind me looks out the window and says, "Great, another flat, bland, vapid city in Texas. Cant wait to get back to California where we at least our cities have some personality." I almost decked his ass right there. You dont talk shit about my family, my friends, or Texas. So i told him to take it back; there in the airport on the ramp to the terminal. He was really shocked, and I told him , that we are proud people, probally the proudest and we didnt really like it when people talked shit about our state without any real basis for it. Our cities are great and have lots of personality. If he didnt take it back, I'd have to find me a few other proud texans and help him take it back. He promptly apologized. On my way out I stopped in the airport bar, gave the bartender cash for another beer for the shit talker (he was sitting there getting a drik with his wife) and wrote a note on a napkin to be given to the fella when the bartender gave him his beer, which said, "Enjoy your stay." And I signed it with , "1836" I took a few visitors from outta town down to the alamo the other day, and I am proud to say as always, I got teary-eyed; looking over at the cenotaph, and being present on such hallowed ground. The spirit of those brave men and what they believed in lives in all of us...WE are the realization of their dreams. They did it for us. For that every one of us should say a daily thank you to those brave men. I get weepy when I watch John Wayne's "The Alamo" and hear him talking about what "republic" means, and why hes there. I thank god I was born here. There are other great parts of the US, but my heart will always be in Texas. I am the luckiest kid on earth to have been born here. Well, me and about 20 million others..lol |

Aggiesigmanu, I am so happy that you mentioned Roger Kreager. I just love him. We had a date party back in December called Texas Christmas. It was at Nephews here in San Marcos and Roger Kreager provided the tunes. It was awesome. He is really a San Marcos favorite. Love it! Love it! Love it!
Seriously, we need to mention the Guadalupe river which I think everyone will agree is awesome. I spent many a day there this summer. I was born and raised here and couldn't be happier! |
Just wanted to say "Congrats!" to you...

TEXAS JOKE
EVERYTHING IS BIGGER IN TEXAS!!!
A Texan buys a round of drinks for all the folks in a bar after announcing that his wife has just produced a "typical" Texas baby boy weighing 25 lbs. Congratulations are showered upon him from all around, and exclamations of "WOW" fill the air. A woman faints nearby from sympathy pains. Two weeks later, the Texan returns to the bar. The bartender asks, "Say, Ain't you the father of the Texas baby that weighed 25 lbs. at birth? "Yep, that's me", replied the Texan. "Well, how much does he weigh now?", asks the bartender. "17 lbs." was the proud father's reply. "17 lbs?" says the puzzled bartender. "What happened? He weighed 25 lbs. at birth". The Texas father takes a slow swig from his Lone Star beer, wipes his mouth on his shirt sleeve, leans into the bartender, and with his Texas accented deep voice says, "Had him circumcised." |
lol i couldn't help but laugh at that one!

Texas truely is a great place and the lack of a state income tax is a BIG plus.
Sorry about some of you not being well received by Texans, but a large influx of people from Calif. and New York has tainted friendlyness a bit. It started back in the mid-80's when J.C. Penny Company relocated the corporate HQ from NYC to Plano, a northern suburb of Dallas. The New Yorkers did not act in what we consider to be a socially acceptible manner. As a result Dallas is not the same city that it was in 1980, and that is sad. It was the biggest small city in the country. Not that it matters, but for accuracy sake: Concealed carry with a license IS permitted in liquor stores. Unlicensed carry is not permitted in any business which sells alcoholic beverages, including convienence stores and grocery stores. Licensed carry is only restricted in establishments which derived 51% or more of their revenues from the sale of alcoholic beverages for on premises consumption. Shooting in defense of property is permitted under the Texas Penal Code Chapter 9, Subchapter D: § 9.42. Deadly Force to Protect Property A person is justified in using deadly force against another to protect land or tangible, movable property: (1) if he would be justified in using force against the other under Section 9.41; and (2) when and to the degree he reasonably believes the deadly force is immediately necessary: (A) to prevent the other's imminent commission of arson, burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, theft during the nighttime, or criminal mischief during the nighttime; or (B) to prevent the other who is fleeing immediately after committing burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, or theft during the nighttime from escaping with the property; ....... Not sure what it is, but I think that for most people you either have to be weak minded or a native texan to like it...All the people I know who have moved there for various reasons have hated it...
