aggieAXO just read in Dear Abby about a similar situation.
Abby and I happen to agree on this! If you are getting back together after you have kept a basis of friendship, things have a pretty darn good chance of working out! "Our" ;) opinion is-lack of friendship between couple is what causes them to fizzle after the initial attraction wears off. Sounds like you have a great foundation to build on! Happy to hear your little pets are better! Highs-Great holiday! I so enjoy having the family together! Lows-Just the fact that it's over and Christmas is around the corner. I have NO IDEA what to give ANYone on my list! I'm a pretty crappy shopper ... the kids want money (of course) but what's the fun in that? I have to come up with something "brilliant" if I want to surprise them. I'm talking in the 25-50 range. I just found the thread I wanted on OUR BOARD!:D So I took out my last part of this post! I guess great minds think alike!!! |
Lows....Finals and a literature review all due in the next two weeks. (SCREAM!) DH's 95 year old grandmother fell and cracked a rib last week, now she is not eating very much, and we are all very worried about her.
Highs...Having my "tree" party next weekend in the mountains, getting the house semi-decorated before we left this weekend, being finished with the majority of my shopping. (Waiting on those Santa gifts - the girls will change their minds ten times before Dec. 25!) How have you other moms dealt with these indecisive children? I keep telling them - don't expect that because it was not on the original list you sent to Santa! |
Highs:
- Had a fun and relaxing break back home in Jersey... but man it was cold!! - Baked up a storm for thanksgiving dinner (that was at my house) with my mom: I made 2 pumkin pies and a cheesecake, my mom made a pecan pie, and my brother made a pumkin-cheesecake .. all very good - put up the lights on our trees outside our house, and started to set up out "Dickin' Village" display in our living room Lows: - flight last night was delayed 2.5 hours - had to wake up at 550 to come to work this morning - I am STILL sick - I'm confused about guys:( .. i've narrowed it down to the ex-bf/current really good friend and the new guy, joe. .. oy vey |
Ladies, LADIES!!! It's been over a MONTH snce anyone posted!!!
Highs-My diet is working wonders! Hubby and I took our blood pressure and oops-a tad high! Too much "holiday"! We are correcting it quickly and effectively! It doesn't even "hurt" very much! Kids are doing great and we have our first Mardi Gras party this Sat. (Actually, it a 12th night party, not the ball.) Daughter couldn't be a debutant this year either-last year was initiation, this year is Grub. I just saved a hunk of money because I didn't really like her white gown from last year and would have HAD to buy a new one. Got all the Christmas decorations down and put away last weekend! :p (I have an unofficial race with another neighbor and I stomped her this year!) Lows-PAPERWORK!!! New Assistant is not too quick...Office is hectic and Hubby is O/C on the sodium. I have been SCREAMING"Watch the TONY'S and the worcesteshire sauce!" Now he's gone too far the other way-kind of a pain in the BUTT when all we need is MODERATION. It wasn't THAT high... Even the doctor told him just to "watch" his diet for 3 months and check it again. |
Highs - Going to dinner at the Chop House and seeing George Winston in concert last night - the man is amazing! Having a nice long break at home with the girls.
Lows - School starts on Wednesday, and I'm not ready! |
Things have been rather BLAH! Mardi Gras is in full swing, but things just feel so aimless.
HIGHS-Everyone is currently healthy-no bugs. Some nice parties to attend. Think we may have seen the coldest days and sunshine lies ahead. Reservations at my favorite restaurant for V-day! YEAH! LOWS-I am a procrastinator at heart. I do NOT want to get out there and beg for free stuff.(The clock is ticking!) Need to hire ANOTHER new assistant!!! Good grief, why can't we find a good one? Is it so hard to show up on time? I can't believe the work ethic of some people... About the only things that DIDN'T die in the freeze were the WEEDS! I want some sunshine so I can get out in the yard and sweat! |
Okay ya'll, I have to do the lows first, so I can end on a high! LOL!
Lows - I am with you on the sunshine thing Justamom! My children have been out of school every Friday for the past month due to bad weather, and it's my only day to get things accomplished without them! Grrr! Plus, I've been trying to have lunch with my AXO friends for forever, but the weather is not cooperating! I need some warmth! I need to sit by a pool in the sun and veg for a little while! Our new dog also needs to stay outside before he chews up the garage and all its contents! It's been too cold to make him stay out there all night! Highs - I've got a sitter for Valentine's day - no idea where we will go or what we will do, but I have a sitter by George! I started at my practicum site at an elementary school, and love, love, love the girl I'm working with! She is fabulous! |
Lows....definitely NOT getting to see my AXO's is sucking! I too am sick of the dreary cold! I am ready for the warm rays -- don't you love those spring mornings where it is bright out and just the perfect temperature!!
Also lows...my brother Chris is in the Navy - he is VERY lonely and depressed right now. He is extremely shy, and being on a ship with 3500 people in the middle of nowhere doesn't help. He emails me each night to tell me how lonely and sad he feels and that he misses us and the baby. I hope you'll all keep him in your prayers! Highs...my new business with PartyLite is going great - I am enjoying the money I have earned so far, and LOVE getting out at night to do the shows. It is great for me to be at home with Eli all day, and then at night to go be with adults while daddy stays home and gets to have one-on-one time with the baby. I am only doing one to two shows a week, so it is really working out nicely. Okay - hope you're all having a great week so far!! |
im gonna play too!
highs--LOVING my sisters. seriously, couldnt be any happier. ive been in bad moods a lot this week, but going to see them always perks me up. getting a haircut tomorrow! having a job interview tomorrow! getting my chi sis tomorrow, and our informal is this saturday! yay! lows--been fighting with my boyfriend nonstop since sunday. he cant go to my informal (his band has a gig) but hes trying to insist i dont take ANYONE, not even a good guy friend. and the major low, after fighting with him til 2am last night, and getting up at 7 for my 8am ballet class..my mom calls at like 8:45 to tell me that my uncle died last night :-/ not exactly a great day...but at least i have my sisters... roxydiva |
AXO Alum, I was watching Fox and Friends this morning and they were with a group of young soldiers outside Iraq. The boys were holding up signs and shouting out to loved ones back home. They looked so young... I couldn't help but think of your brother and all the other young men we have read about on GC or know personally. My heart and prayers are with ALL of you!
BTW, what is PartyLite??? roxydiva, so sorry about your uncle. I'm glad you have sisters you love to help you. AXO_MOM_3, we had a dog that ATE part of our house, chewed off an entire corner before we noticed it! It really is wonderful when you actually LIKE the people you work with... Anyone heard from smiley? |
Hey all!
Lows - My mom is in the hospital due to problems with her diabetes et al. I still am in need of some major WARM sunshine! I'm SO behind in my schoolwork since the girls have been out of school so much due to weather. Highs - My darling husband surprised me this weekend by painting the hallway and doors (We had thes UGLY country blue doors all over the house - the whole inside of the house was blue when we bought it - anyway, he got six of them painted white this weekend! Only the two left in the living room to go now!) Yippee! My hallway is so much brighter now! |
Michelle,
I am sorry to hear about your mother-I hope she gets well :) |

PartyLite is the GREATEST of the home shows! They are THE candle people and make the best candles on the market. The home shows are fun because its just sitting around talking for about 20 minutes about the products, but of course (as women will do) we end up talking about OTHER things (hint - what most people think about when you're talking about candles and night time mood ;) ) -- so then it turns into a big PJ party with the giggling and the stories -- oh, it is SO much fun!! If you ever get invited to go to one, you should go! They are a blast!! I started PL in December to help pay off the ENORMOUS debt I incurred from Creative Memories (the scrapbook people). I wanted to do something to help earn money since I would be staying at home with Eli. Well, instead I forked over about $3000 to CM and it was terrible! I can't believe I got sucked into that. Well, PL is totally different - I paid NOTHING to start ($250 for CM) and do not keep an inventory ($1000 and up for CM) and don't have to pay for my hostess gifts, credit card transactions, etc. Plus, I love getting out at night and being with ADULTS!! I love my child, but being with him all day is plenty! And Mr. AXOAlum really does love to be at home with him. If my party gets cancelled, he tells me to go out anyway so he and "the boy" can have some QT together! It is precious!! Okay, so that was a really long explanation - sorry! :) |
you know...i hate to reply to this thread again so soon. but i gotta whine, forgive me!
highs--spring break starts next friday! im not going anywhere but home, but hey, thats a welcome change! my boyfriends band is playing at sigma chi at hanover this weekend, and a lot of my sisters have expressed interest in coming with me, and that makes me happy!! :) lows--went home thursday night to go to the doctor friday morning. have a cold/sinus thing going on. she made me go to the hospital to get my left ankle x rayed. 2 weeks ago i twisted it. now the top part hurts, and the most tender spot is over a bone--not a good sign!! REALLY not good when youre a dance minor and take 5 hours of dance class a week. THEN. monday happens. i realize my computer has been stolen from our house (i dont use it at school, we only have dial up, so we use one of the roomies computer). i have an original apple ibook, and it is my BABY. so. needless to say...im a little upset! and then its the only item in the house gone. police comes, do a report, etc. roomie tries to take me to dinner to make me feel better. the one resturant we want to go to, closed early for maintenence. get home. go to do laundry, walk out of room, and whack my foot on a broken glass table leg. slices my toe open...off to the emergency room. 4 stiches later...here i am hobbling to class. worst day EVER! sigh. sorry. and thanks for letting me vent. AX love and mine, roxydiva |

smiley21 YES YOU! How's everything going for YOU??? :)
roxydiva Do you believe in biorhythms? Sounds like you're in a "physical/critical " stage! AXO Alum Your "party' sounds great! I don't THINK we have anything like that here, but sometimes I must admit I am soooo out of the loop. Highs-TWO BIG DATES NEXT WEEK! Thurs., my niece is bringing her "potential" in. The entire family is going to "Grand Gourmet Night" at the Club which includes a lecture on wines and tasting different selections with each course- a 5 course meal! FRIDAY!!! The Symphony has brought in 3 antique dealers and will have a cocktail buffet set up prior to their "Roadshow" Sat. Each guest can bring one item for a verbal appraisal! Limited to 120 people. I am SOOOOO pumped up about this!!! LAST DAY OF MARDI GRAS!!! Yes, time to get back to normal. Son has been out of school more than IN school with all the holidays. Lows-WORK! We were waiting to start the new assistant and the OLD assistant had an emergency operation. I am honestly more concerned for her well being (she will be fine) but good grief this is more than difficult. Finding I am losing my patience with some of the GC posters...NEVER a happy word, always a "BIG" problem. Let's just keep beating the dead dog with the stick. SOME of the topics are starting to get to me as well. With so many viewers of this site, you'd think some people would THINK before they post...unless they wear their proclamations proudly. Ah well-time to take a break I suppose and reconnect later when I can look at things with fresh eyes and see humor in the situation. |

know what? i am working on getting recs for alpha chi omega!!!:D something about axo thats making so happy lately. i cant explain it |

only have to work one more day this week looking for a new condo-finally I have been waiting for this for 2 years and interest rates are sooooo low :) lows none to really mention at this time (wow that is a first) |
Roxydiva - sounds like you have had a rough week! Hang in there!
Justamom - I thought about you when I was eating my pancakes on Tuesday! Aggieaxo - lucky you - no lows! Good luck with the condo! My Lows: Our 70 lb. "puppy" is still eating the house. Now that he is outside, he is destroying (eating) the lattice around the deck and anything else in his path. Any suggestions Aggieaxo? Everyone I know is going somewhere warm for spring break, but since my week is different from the girls, we will only get a long weekend in the mountains. :( My Highs: Mom finally got to go home, and is doing great. I have a whole week out of school to play catch up (maybe even get ahead...in my dreams) on all my school work since the girls are all still in school! It was 75 degrees here today - I played outside all day! |

Have you heard of invisble fencing? It is a wire that is placed around what ever you do not want touched and then your dog (or cat) wears a collar and if they try to enter the area they get shocked-I know it sounds cruel but I know many people including veterinarian that have the system and it seems to work well-see if you have an Invisible Fencing company in your area or call a Petsmart to see if there is a system you can install yourself. |
Hey, it's that time again! Last post was one month ago!
Highs-Well, got the taxes done, hired ANOTHER assistant who is pretty darn good and this WILL be our last chilly week. Baby Girl has decided to SKIP SPRING BREAK!!! She has projects due and tests right after Easter so she is coming home to STUDY!!! Her grades are WONDERFUL this semester. My son has Prom tomorrow night and all his buddies rented tails with top hates and canes. They are such a scream! I know this isn't a biggie to many, but I bought NEW TOWELS!!! Now I need to figure out the amount of salt to add to the first load so they don't bleed all over everything. Lows-Horrible-HORRIBLE cough! First my son had it, now I have it and Hubby is getting it. Since I haven't felt too good, all the work is piling up. To all my AXO sisters-Easter is just around the corner and to those who celebrate HAPPY EASTER! To those who honor Passover, I extend my best wishes as you commemorate the freedom and exodus of the Israelites. |
JAM,
how much salt do you add? I always just throw a bit in-is there actually an amount I should be adding? Highs: getting some of my spring cleaning done though I have a long way to go! The wildflowers this year are so beautiful-gorgeous bluebonnets-I just love Texas in the spring time. Lows: the condo I wanted sold last week-blah! I too have had a nasty cough though it is finally going away. |
AggieAXO, I had to look it up and it said 1/2 cup. There were other sites that said it didn't work! Still, so many people have used this method for years, can they ALL be wrong? My towels are ruby and heaven knows that will bleed and turn EVERYTHINK pink!
I guess I'll us warm water. Picked up Woolite's Dye Magnet as well. I'll try that on the second round! While we are here, my sweet niece, (an AXO) and her boyfriend just broke up...over religion...she is so heartbroken. Everyone send "good thoughts" her way. She is crushed.:( |
HIGHS:
My senior thesis is complete, bound, and in the hands of my advisors! I made my grad school decision--NYC here I come! It was BEAUTIFUL out here today! Everyone was in shorts, playing frisbee...awesome! Today marks 3 years with the boy. LOWS: Once a week, my friends and I meet for dessert--one of us makes it. Today, it was my turn--and I made something fairly complicated. Why oh why did everyone (except one) flake out an hour beforehand? Pisses me off! Oh yeah...and it's too late to make dinner reservations for the anniversary dinner. |
Hello all! It's been awhile!
Lows: DH is playing golf in the morning so I won't be able to sleep late! I'm so tired and need some serious sleep! My baby girl turns 3 on Monday - so depressing! I need a baby fix! Highs: I've almost complete my first year of graduate school! Have a few little things left to turn in, but for the most part, I am through with the semester! |
HEY! Hope everyone is doing GREAT!
Highs -My son just took his last test! No more school uniforms for him to wear or me to wash!!!! -Last meeting before graduation party and then I'm done for the summer!!! -All caught up at work and have a new assistant who is really GOOD! -Daughter's grades should be exceptional this semester!!! -Hubby is taking me on a trip as soon as son finishes rush! Lows -Son will be leaving in 3 months...my baby will be gone... -Son's GF is starting to get on my nerves. SHE is not going to the same campus, so this SHOULD be under "Highs". -Still haven't started painting the INSIDE of the house. -My legs are soooooooo white! I tried the self tanning lotion and it looked OK for 2 days, but my heels took on a weird color! -My Mother is getting so fragile...I am a bit frightened for her. |

justamom- i just wanted to tell you that i think you're awesome. your posts are always among the highlights of greek chat. congrats for your family and for you!!:) |
smiley21-What a sweet thing to say! I think you're pretty terrific!
As an added comment-We were ROLLED last night! I thought this was over! I KNOW who did it. SHE did it! He wanted to hang with the guys and THIS is her response. On the bright side-girls can't throw like guys, so it was pretty easy to pick up! |
You mean you got TPed??
Wow what a mature lil girl. I would have beaten some ass! |
AXJules, yes, TPed.
Here it is, they are done with school, and this is what a HS graduate thinks to do??? Heaven help us when they break up...and that's coming pretty soon according to his friends. It's summer, he's going away in 3 months and he wants to spend as much time with his buddies as possible since only a few are going to LSU. He knows that life is just begining and the sooner she accepts it, the better. He just can't figure out the better way-ease out or cut it off. He's a good guy and cares enough to try ad make it easy. She has some things she needs an escort to and he doesn't want to leave her in the lurch. ...and then there's the graduation trip to Florida for whch I believe he would like to be unencoumbered. |
High
-It is the weekend!!!! :) Low -I miss my boyfriend. :( |
Highs:
-Graduation is in a week! The family and boy are coming Thursday! -I passed two classes, so I'm definitely graduating! -I've been going out and having a great time every night. Lows: -I know there are some people I will never see again. -I still have tons of packing to do. -I'm hungover! |
Lows: I started an intense three week summer session today for school today. Yuck! I need a loooonnnnggg break!
Highs: I've successfully completed my first year of grad school, and got great grades for the semester. Yippee! My sister in-law just bought a really cool house with a pool! Now if it will just get warm enough to swim in it... |
I'm new to GC, but I like this tread so I'm going to join in!
Highs: Only one more day until until the long weekend! My dance recital is this weekend (I take tap and jazz), and it's only 1 week until I go visit one of my AXO sisters in St. Louis. Lows: I've been dancing every night this week to prepare for my recital and I'm getting worn out! It's been raining for practically a week straight (where's the sunny warm weather!?), and my boyfriend's dad had to be taken to the emergency room Tuesday night for an ulcer. He's going to be fine, but my boyfriend was totally freaked out when his mom called him crying telling him to meet her at the hospital. That's all for this week! :) |
High:
My boss just congratulated me on fine brainstorming and work on a headline that went on the front of the paper. I got these really great 3-inch black heels for $40 from enzo! I just got some really great brown wedge heels for $50 from banana republic! I'm alive today. Low: My bf and I are on the verge of separating. I'm in the process of moving out of the apartment we're sharing with each other. I've cried and cried and cried. I feel rejected, neglected and like shit. |
Highs:
- I got a new printer -- so i get to print out all my pictures from my digital camera -- AWESOME quality - I realized [yesterday] that the gym is open til 8pm. [i thought it closed at 6] -- so i can workout after work - I HAVE MONDAY OFF... yay - I've been working on a cross-stitch Lambda Chi Alpha crest for my brother who just graduated -- it'll be nice Lows: - My boyfriend is gone ALL summer working at a Christian Camp for Kids in Mo. And they dont have email access, and phone is restricted -- so I'm getting a lot of penpal practice!! [which could go under 'high' - since we get to communicate in a way we've never had to before] - I'm back to co-oping for Cryovac Sealed Air Corp -- meaning, waking up at 530, out the door at 630, work 730-4! [in a cubicle... and the only girl... haha] Oh the life of a computer programmer. - Weather has been kinda crummy... a lot of rain down here - I have to take a 'Defensive Driving' class tomorrow [8hours] to take points off my license for a speeding ticket that i got while driving my best friend to the airport [he was late]. It was my first one ever... i was NOT happy. Hmm, I have a lot of lows... it seems... but I'm actually quite content... gotta see what good is going on in your life -- not always concentrate on the bad! [my piece of advice for the day ;) ) |
HIGHS:
*I've lost nearly 10 pounds since I've been home! Whoo Hoo, I'll be back in my bikini in no time! *My best friend is coming to visit in 17 days! I can't wait! *In 18 days I am going to see Justin Timberlake in concert! LOWS: *I'm not seeing my boyfriend until late August and though we haven't been together long I still miss him. This whole separation thing is new to me and I don't like it. :( *Being home is boring, and I have like no friends left from high school. I want to go back to school! |
HIGHS-I have finished the set up of registration for the Senior party. NO JOKE-I hade over 1400 individual "functons" to do and I didn't get the info in time to call my committee for help!
LOWS- My back is killing me-my knees hurt and I just want to go to sleep! Daughter is on her way to work at a summer camp and my son graduates SUNDAY! Here is a gripe... The parents of this class promote partying/drinking. Two couples sponsored a party and 6 other parents supervised. They had a margarita machine and beer!!! Of course THIS invitation didn't come through the mail and it never made it to the fridge. Another parent told me that on the invitation it said to have a designated driver!!!!   WAIT, I KNOW IT'S A GOOD IDEA TO ALWAYS HAVE A DD, BUT-parents requesting one just shouts out DRINKING! There should NOT be alcohol at a party SPONSORED by adults! (or anywhere for that matter, adults just put a stamp of approval on it) I'm really having a hard time spelling tonight. I asked if they knew about the recent IL case where they are going after parents who supplied beer. IDIOTS! Didn't even know about the case and THIS lady is an attorney's wife!!! The set of parents hosting this party are ATTORNEYS!!! WTHell is wrong with people??? Anyway, my son came home to grab a bite and all appeared to be OK. I think HE may have been the designated driver or else they didn't really have all that booze. I'll have to find out in bits and pieces. |
JAM,
Sounds like a couple of idiots that are just begging for a lawsuit though since they are attorneys there won't be any attorney fees. |
HIGHS: Ok, I was all sad that I'd never hear from my boyfriend since he's at camp and doesnt have phone access.. He called 3 times yesterday.. they had a few hours free:
1. I was making dinner [salmon patties, which he was sad to be missing.. lol], he was waiting on his food at a restaurant. 2. I was in the shower, so I hopped out [with conditioner in still] and chatted with him, because they just got DONE with dinner. 3. At midnight, he knew i'd be sleeping, and they're an hour behind us, so all the cousellors at the camp went roller-skating, and he called to wish me a good night, and kinda...'tuck me in', in a sense. YAY! I was excited LOWS: still at work... |
