Yes it was, thank you. It has been a few years since I have seen it so I don't remember most of it.

Remarks on the movies mentioned:
Kids was disturbing to me when I saw it. Now I don't know if I would find it all that shocking. Says something no? The movie was very disturbing for it's time, and made me VERY happy not to be sexually active!

Clockwork Orange- I wanted to wash my mind out after I saw that movie. UGH. THere's a bar downtown that is modeled on the one in the movie though, I had to laugh the first time I went there. Fugly decor, GREAT drinks.

The Shining- I LOVE that movie

Full Metal Jacket - I LOVE this one too. Yay Kubrick! ALthough Eyes Wide Shut put me to sleep...

My list:
Seven
The Care Bears Movie- I couldn't sleep for a week when I was six, lol....
Leprechaun in THe Hood- Disturbing because it is the worst, most brain dead, apallingly bad piece of film I have EVER seen. ice T stars.

And on a serious note, a movie that made me really change was Philadelphia- I cried SO hard during this movie. It really just changed the way I saw AIDS.
Most of mine have been mentioned I think. I

pbpck 07-19-2002 12:55 AM

Oh..and an if you are looking for an indie flick, Cecil B Demented is a really odd film. It leaves you feeling triumphant on the side of evil. Kinda screws with your value system if not mock it.

ROWDYsister 07-19-2002 01:39 AM

One that disturbed me and made me feel like I lost 2 hours of my life: "American Psycho."

Crazy stuff there, especially when he's naked and running around with the chainsaw.

LeslieAGD 07-19-2002 09:12 AM

Did anyone mention The Blaire Witch? Most of the movie was blah, but the last five minutes were pretty disturbing.

ZTAMiami 07-31-2002 09:21 AM

I don't think anyone mentioned "Dancer in the Dark" with Bjork.

It was disturbing in the sense that the outcome was so screwed up.:(

Moochagoo 07-31-2002 09:57 AM

i didnt like at all this movie...inconclusive and gratuitously disturbing

sugar and spice 08-01-2002 07:31 PM

Requiem for a Dream is up there. I practically kept my eyes covered for the last 15 minutes of the movie because I was so disturbed by it.

I haven't seen all of A Clockwork Orange, but I've seen probably an hour of it, and it's definitely disturbing.

Kids is another one, but not to the same degree that the other two were.

kdonline 08-01-2002 08:07 PM

my additions

My additions to the list:
Happiness (do NOT let the name fool you)
Memento (make sure your attention is undivided - you really have to concentrate on this one)

RUgreek 08-01-2002 08:21 PM

Wishmaster, very cool and gorry, but could fit the classification of disturbed. I thought the special effects and killings in this movie were really good, but might not meet the tastes of others here.

The two most disturbing off the top of my head are:

Blow - I spent a lot of time in Miami with my Dad during that time period, enough said.

Black Hawk Down - Great movie, but I don't think I could ever sit through it again.

FiReKraCkEr 08-01-2002 09:21 PM

It wasn't a war epic, or horror film...but I think Castaway fits in this thread. It was an awesome movie, but I would NEVER watch it again.

Way too depressing.....I love Tom Hank too much to see him suffer like that. I know it was only a movie, but it was so real...it was SCARY!

Ivory

chideltjen 08-02-2002 03:14 AM

I was wondering when someone would mention Memento... although i don't know if it is as disturbing as it F***ed up. I liked it, but you can't catch it in the middle of the movie and expect to understand it.

I saw Cybil in the 11th grade... you know... the chick with multiple personality disorder to the max and then they would show how her mother abused her as a child. And it was based on a true story too.
Sad to say... but A Beautiful Mind freaked me out. Don't know why... but it did... it was just too damn good.

I have never seen Clockwork Orange but heard some nutty things about it. I think you get that with any Kubric film tho.

bigdu 08-02-2002 04:11 AM

The last five min of Requim for a Dream are damn near unforgetable. The movie Clockwork Orange is one of the all time greats

BLACK HAWK DOWN

Black Hawk down was the most disturbing movie I have EVER seen.

For one, I never even knew about this happening, which made me question my intelligence

I am not a real big supporter of guns or wars, so I didn't see this in the movie theater. I rented it about a month ago. I was absolutely TRAUMATIZED by it. I can handle blood and gore on film, even violence on film, but this was to much. My roommate kept coming in and turning it off b/c I was freaking out so much. And I HAD to finish it.

I have never felt such hatred, depression, and hopelessness in my entire life, after I saw it. I was crying so hard after it (after softly crying through it all) that I couldn't talk to tell my roommate why it affected me so much (to this day I can't even describe the feelings I had) I laid in my bed for about 4 hours after and just cried and prayed and cried some more. BAWLED, to be honest.

And I just have to say as a side note, I thought Vanilla Sky was pretty brilliant. It's the first movie in a while that had me all tied up trying to figure it out. It did have a cheesy ending, imo, though.

chideltjen 08-04-2002 12:36 AM

did anyone mention american beauty? i personally love that movie but a lot of other people that have seen it all said it was really too weird for them. I can agree on some aspects but I still love the concept of it all.

chioangel83 08-08-2002 08:44 AM

* American Beauty

*Schindler's List Sooo haunting watching the horror of the Holocaust. Hearing/seeing all those names is bone chilling. The fact that it's true makes it even more disturbing. Great movie, but too emotionally draining for me.

*The Green Mile A great movie with wonderful acting but there is NO WAY I can ever watch it again...too sad. I was bawling. I have always been anti-death penalty and this movie made me even more so. I walked out of it feeling sad, depressed, very angry.

*Eyes Wide Shut Three words: what the hell?

I'm sure there are more but I can't think of them at the moment.

DeltaSigStan 08-08-2002 08:50 AM

What's scary about Kids is that although they're fictional characters, this stuff happens everyday with kids like that.

Optimist Prime 08-08-2002 10:31 AM

A. Clockwork Orange. Freaky deaky. Also Romper Stomper, which was inspired by Kubrick. Romper Stomper is about skin heads who are working class and they're parents are union. Then asian people come (I forget what country) and they aren't union so work cheaper so no jobs for them. I guess its about racial tension. The best line in the movie though is when one of the skinheads turns to another one, and he's like "maybe we deserve this. WE did the same thing to aboroginies."

XiLovin 08-09-2002 09:45 AM

The Mothman Prophecies: I didn't sleep with all of the lights off for about two weeks.

Stigmata: When those eyes change colors

The Exorcist: Man!

I just can't handle movies involving spirits or posession. It totally creeps me out.

By far, A Clockwork Orange is one of the weirdest things I've ever seen. I though Vanilla Sky was weird too, but I loved it!

A Clockwork Orange was immensely disturbing, but it's one hell of a movie. I've only been able to watch it once, it's a tough couple of hours to stomach at times.

The Virgin Suicides.

pbpck, I took your advice and checke i out....disturbing tosay the absolute least....ad while the storyline isn't so confusing, I was quite shocked that they would comit suicide. The man working at Blockbuster tried to convinceme tofind another movie because VS was the worst film he'd ever seen in his entire life, but he als mentioned he was disgusted with the other VS, Vanilla Sky. I'll try to write soon, I've just been busy doing nothing important.

I saw Candyman when I was in fifth or sixth grade and it was the freakiest movie ever! My friends and I also were scared to go into the bathroom by ourselves so we all went together! Haha.

The Mothman Prophecies was also a pretty disturbing film that completely freaked me out. One of my sisters was so scared after seeing that film that she wanted me to hang out with her until she fell asleep that night we saw it.

Poltergiest (the one with Tom Skerrit and it took place in the hotel) scared the heck out of me when I was younger too. Oh who am I kidding, if I saw it today, I would probably still be too afraid to watch it.

ok i thought i was the only one... i don't know what it was exactly about it... maybe that it isn't something that happened a generation ago but "recently" - and that it could happen today- maybe that i have people close to me that are my age that it could happen to.... i dunno but i have Never Ever felt the way i did when i was watching this movie. (and i've seen alot of the movies mentioned) it was rough.
besides disturbed i think empty would be the word i would use to describe my reactions to alot of them... oh and another one that wasn't mentioned that i saw :

the deer hunter. ugh.

It wasn't a thriller to any extent. I just reccommend it as it's the exact opposite of a teen love flick. It's the darker side of Americana. Quirky and unsettling. Glad you saw it though. Hope all is well. I'm just decorating my beach house and planning my life. :)

Munchkin03 08-20-2002 10:18 PM

I loved Vanilla Sky AND the Virgin Suicides. The trick to fully understanding the latter is to read the book...I did that between viewings and it helped out a lot. American Beauty is also one of my favorites, and I really need to watch A Clockwork Orange. Disturbing--yes, but also thought-provoking. Not a bad combo.

Kids is WICKED disturbing. What's even scarier is that I have friends from NYC who know the kids who were in it. It's not a far-off fantasy from some of their lifestyles, allegedly.

When I was little The Care Bears Movie freaked me out too...that wicked woman's face in the book was freaky!

I also used to be scared of some parts of The Wizard of Oz.

I was absolutely devastated after watching For the Boys...I saw it when I was younger and I don't even remember the premise...all I remember is that it made me truly ponder death...and I had the most awful feeling in the world after seeing it because I'm absolutely terrified of death.

A Time to Kill is disturbing because of its strong racist characters.

After I saw Arlington Road, I thought now THAT'S DISTURBING (especially the last scene).

FHwku 08-21-2002 12:32 AM

Stephen King's It scared the shitoutta me. Scary scary movie.

BlackHawk Down left me drained and looking at the situation like a mini-Viet Nam. Sad sad movie.

Showgirls is absolutely terrifying. I didn't know they could release such awful movies on such a broad scale. Jessie, you showed such potential at Bayside H.S.

That is exactly how I felt after I saw Arlington Road. After it was over I just sat there in awe... I would have never guessed that's how that movie would end!!

hottiegrkgrl 10-26-2002 03:25 PM

Arlington Road,
Very disturbing but good!

When I was a kid the movie The Lion, THe witch and the Wardrobe freaked me out...I think it was the half man/half horse guy that really got me!

Also, I liked Virgin Suicides, very dark and disturbing, but really makes you think.

Also 8 mm made you think too, I loved Nicolaus Cage (before he married lisa marie)

valkyrie 10-26-2002 03:37 PM

I thought that Blair Witch was *really* scary.

Probably the movie that I found the most disturbing was Roger & Me. That movie freaked me out like no other.

Traylee 10-26-2002 03:46 PM

Okay, here's my list of creepiest movies:

Jeepers Creepers
Sister My Sister
The Green Mile
American Beauty

I have more, but I can't remember them right now.

leilanimoon 10-26-2002 07:34 PM

disturbing

Boys Don't Cry has a very disturbing rape scene and the new movie Rules of Attraction was wack-o!!!!!!!! suicide, drug deals gone wrong...Dawson? I can't really see him as he is portrayed in this movie.\
The Shining and Pet Semetary are movies I get chills watching no matter the timeof day!

Unregistered- 10-26-2002 08:42 PM

Last night I watched "Once Were Warriors" again...don't know if any of you have seen it...but it's a film directed by Lee Tamahori from New Zealand. That movie has to be one of my most favorite, but at the same time it's disturbing because of all the domestic violence/incest that takes place.

A few days ago I saw "The Ring"....yeah, watching videos will never be the same.

Tom Earp 10-26-2002 09:03 PM

The scariest movie: Deliverence!

My Best Movie: Animal House:cool:

Like fun but not shit scary!

Optimist Prime 10-27-2002 01:30 AM

Tom, when i make my films you better come watch them. One will be my greek experice. hellyah.

librasoul22 08-13-2003 09:57 AM

I just watched a disturbing flick last night called Irreversable. It was a French film. Um...it DEFINITELY isn't for the faint of heart. Not a bad flick, but very different and disturbing.

Also disturbing:

Requiem For a Dream (disturbing, yet awesome)

City of God (Brazilian movie about gangs of children...true story which makes it VERY disturbing)

Bloody Sunday (another true story about the Irish fighting the English occupation)

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (could not sit through the whole thing the first time I watched it because it was just so bizarre).

I would recommend the first three. TCM, not so much, lol.

White_Chocolate 08-13-2003 10:07 AM

Stigmata. . .i couldn't sleep for 2 days

Black&White. . .white kids trying to "act" black. . .scary

It. . .i was 21 and crying like a baby. . .i hate clowns now

i can't think of the name but it's a new movie about a jewish kid who joins the neo-nazi. . .poor thing

33girl 08-13-2003 10:59 AM

How apropos...I just watched "Crumb" last night. It's the biography of R. Crumb, the underground cartoonist, and as if he isn't screwed up enough, it features his entire screwed up family also. After watching it you have absolutely no positive feelings about the world or the human race.

I agree with everyone freaked out by Clockwork Orange. Anything dealing with prisons or mental institutions (any kind of confinement or behavior control, basically) frightens me on a very deep level, but this was the topper. I refuse to ever watch it again.

oh, and Virgin Suicides - read the book. read the book. do you hear me? READ THE BOOK.
