Every year for Homecoming at my school the KAPsi's would sponsor a step show. They would assign two brothers to each sorority that wanted to participate and would teach them a step and help them develop their routine. It was a lot of fun and a great way to promote Greek unity on our campus.

I would think other campuses would want to do the same.

I think that's a great idea to promote Greek Unity.

Wouldn't collaborating on a service project also promote "unity"?

They already do that, several times per year. This is another way to do so. I'm just curious as to why this would not be acceptable on some campuses.

If there was truly a historical precedent for cross-cultural "Sharing" I'd have no problem with non-blacks stepping, but as in this country things tend to not be credited to whom/where they initially originated-- I have a problem.

I'm sorry, it just really burns me up to see the Hispanic/Latino (I mentioned them specifically because they do it the most) GLO's at my school stepping and taking it around parties. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Why? Go Salsa, Merengue, Mambo, I don't care--be original!!! Why step? Half of the time they dont' even know what it means!!!!

sorry...just my .08 cents.

 Ditto

no it's not. and to be quite honest, your opinion on what bglos should or shouldn't teach is irrelevant.

Since you're being repetitive, I will be too. Yes, it is.

It's funny you think I care what you think of my opinion.

I didn't say that anybody should or shouldn't teach anything. I simply asked a question and am still waiting for the answer. If the answer lies in one of the other threads you referenced, then bump them. On wait - I doubt you're that considerate.

i know you don't care, as it is irrelevant anyway. and no, it's not. and regarding old threads....there's a search button at the top of the screen.

Thanks for the intelligent conversation and for adding such depth to this thread. You've once again proven you're a fine, upstanding guy.

It's still sad, and your attitude just makes it even more so.

yes, actually i am. but then again, fine upstanding pillars of the community don't tell people to go back where they came from.

and your opinion on what bglos should do is nonsensical.

Who said anything about telling anybody to go back to where they came from?

For someone who doesn't care about my "irrelevant" opinion, you certainly are responding to me quite a bit. Kinda' like in the thread where you posted, what was it, 40+ times telling us that you didn't care?

Anyways, I'm off to a concert. Have fun living up there on that high horse. I hope you're wearing a seatbelt.

i like being on the high horse, i enjoy looking down at the lowly peons such as yourself.

Oh, that's right - you use that fuzzy logic.

Look, it's obvious you're not interested in having an intelligent conversation or adding anything new to the discussion. I'm sure you're going to respond and post something you think is witty, since you have this need to get in the last word, and that's okay. I'm not going to stoop to your level and resort to personal attacks, so it's going to end now.

Have a great week!

I myself am not greek, yet i've been an aspirant for two years, and like to think i've done some pretty good research on BGLO's. We have a GLO at our school that steps, and have stepped in competition with Divine Nine org's (they didnt win), but me and my other aspirant friends felt that from what we know about stepping they shouldn't do it, and they really shouldnt step and incorparate things like " we step to a different, a better beat, than AKA, DST and those other unknown two". So i dont think that non-BGLO's should step. Chruch groups and drill teams are different because they are not GLO's, but cant we (african Americans have anything) GOD

Prettyface08 04-20-2005 12:27 PM

I know i'm late but...

Being someone who has been on BOTH sides of the fence, and reading the posts from everyone who responded, I'd have to agree with those who say that Other orgs shouldn't step WITHOUT acknowledging us NPHC Orgs first. The reason i say this is because 1) I was always asked to "show them a step" but was never asked about what it was or how it related to my culture 2) when orgs. actually stepped in the competitions (homecoming competitions/greek sing, etc..) they only won B/C they incorporated a step routine and it was the "in" thing to do. 3) Again it was the "IN" thing to do and never did they ONCE try to do anything with the BGLO's, not even invite them to a party but you wanna learn to step?

I don't think these orgs are doing it because they are interested, only because they are the "in" thing to do. People who talk about AfrAmer "stealing" stuff from other people. We didn't steal ANYTHING, we were not allowed to participate in WGLO's so we had to create our OWN. We revamped everything and it's no wonder people want to do what we do, but sheesh, just show some respect. I have NO problem with ANY organization, as i said i've been on BOTH sides of the fence, I don't want to keep my culture to myself we have SOOOO much great stuff to share, but show respect and acknowledge us. LOL i think someone in a different forum said something like "in 50 years they will say that WGLO's invented stepping" LOL
