I didn't say whether I agreed or disagreed with what happened. Just stated that it happened. And if you have any ACTUAL knowledge of this chapter grades (1.8 I think) were not the ONLY thing factored in here. We have a dry campus and... I'll leave the rest up to everyone's imagination. We actually had a colony member leave us so he could go "drink in his own house"... Good riddance... He actually showed up a few months later asking to come back...

I could give you a list of things they've done since that would have warranted them not staying on campus... But I won't. I have respect for TKE as a whole and think this chapter doesn't do much for the good name of your international organization.

I have had many discussions with Beta representatives, including our Director of Expansion, and the response I have gotten in regards to Beta's expansion, is that we are trying to get back to schools in which we were at, rather than massively expanding to any ordinary school under the sun, like you have seen in some of the late 1800 and early 1900 fraternities. Hence, I believe that is why they may be spending some resources to get back to SDSU, similar to our 3 re-orgs at our Alpha Chapter (Miami Univ., Oxford, OH - 1839) in the past 7 years. Now, with the proper reorganization with many many man hours and resources, they have basically stormed that campus.

Lastly, TKEmz894, I understand your love for TKE, but TKE is not the only fraternity out there, so if someone happens to say TKE in their posting, relax a bit.

Also, does anyone know how a fraternity can continue to exist at a University without the recognition of the University, without being considered 'underground'? Makes no sense to me that if the Univ. doesn't want you there, how the HQ continues to let them live. Support is one thing, ignoring the Univ. is another.

It's very easy for a fraternity to exist without school support. Take Amherst College. Greeks are supposedly "banned", but there's actually a very strong underground Greek system- 4 or 5 chapters with about 45 members each, about 10% of the school. A few members in each chapter rent an off-campus house together, and that's that. Now, if they ever got caught wearing letters or openly recruiting, they'd get expelled (the College is quite serious about that), but as long as they keep things quiet, and recruit in secret, they're fine. All their groups are national, too- Chi Psi is the only one I can think of by name right now, though.

At UMass, PKA is still there, underground, about 25 of them I suspect, though it's hard to tell sometimes. Phi Mu has renamed themselves $ (who knew Prince would start a trend?) and are living down the street from us next year, I think. Sometimes it's a little hard to tell the underground Greeks apart from just normal tenants, until they get drunk and forget themselves and the old letters come out.

Not only do you have underground groups, there are whole campuses that are in the middle- they don't officially recognize their Greeks, but also don't persecute them- they just ignore them completely and let them do what they like. Colorado is like that to a degree, I believe- anyone from Boulder out there who can help me out on that?

Yeah, I can see how 'underground' can work, but I still have a difficult time thinking that if the school says, "Your fraternity/sorority is now kicked off campus by us, and is not recognized at all, and is completely unaffiliated to us", that they HQ says, "Yeah, alright, but we will still keep them as an active chapter, and count them in our ranks". Most HQ would yank a charter if the Univ. gets rid of the chapter.

Being underground generally means that a chapter has went defunct, and without recognition by the HQ or the Univ., they continue to recruit secretly and pass on the same rituals as they were taught.....but, as I mentioned, that is generally done without the support of the Univ. and HQ.

Tau Kappa Epsilon was kicked off our campus in the early 90's...I'm not going to go into details.

Why is it that the people that have negative things to say about PIKE (PKA) always revolve around RAPE charges-scandals-etc....?

You people dont realize how much shit here at UF we've had to take because of a some misinformed situations from other chapters. Thats just fucked up for you to even talk about shit like. This is a bad post. I constantly have little freshman girls coming up to me, "Oh your a Pike? Your hot, but dont you rape girls and make them drink GHB?" I was astonished when i actually met a girl that didnt say that to me, but rather asked if I wanted to take a couple caps of GHB and was in a sorority. In the begining the girl thought i was a dick, and i had to work against the image many of you paint by spreading the rumours, but in the end we dated for a long time. This kind of rumour bullshit is for people that are jealous of individuals who are studs(people like me). Remember, when you say these things, your not just making chapters like mine look bad but rather greeks in general.

If someone comes at you with bullshit like that, and they say "Dont you rape girls? Dont you slip them GHB?" Come back at them with, More women are raped and slipped drugs by people who are not greek than those that are greek (Its true). They shold then shut the fuck up. If they dont, you know what you have to do. Dont let no one talk shit about your letters. If its a girl talking shit, just make some rude comment about her face, boobs, ass or clothes.....This pisses them off all the time, being as most girls are into looking good, if their not, why the hell are you talking to them in the first place?

Dude, the truth hurts, doesn't it? Many storys of chapters getting shut down for rape are true, and I am sure that some of the stories about your org. getting shut down for that are true too.

PS, Salt Boy, your not even a Pike. You have been stirring shit up on here for a long time. If you were a Pike, you'd answer your e-mails.

Well in response to Sigma Nu. Sorry for calling you a colony boy. I have been posting on here for a year and when I first started all I heard was TKE this and TKE that and it was a free for all. That really pissed me off because hwen I joined TKE I heard the same crap around my Campus. That made me overly sensitive I guess. But often because of TKEs International philosophy of thinking outside the box we get a reputation as being the F-ups on our campus or the guys that will go by any means possible to keep thier chapter alive. Often these practices are eventually adopted by other fraternitys and it becomes the norm. But either way you look at it we do things out of love for our fraternity and its usually taken the wrong way. So just dont talk about TKE and I wont talk about you..........


PS. Pike was kicked off our campus in the 70s not sure why and Sigma Nu is about to go under I think they have 3 members left, Delta sigma phi went under in 98 Low #s, also AST sorority had a colony but went under last year

I am friends with many Pike men on my campus and have nothing but respect for them. They have the stigma of being "meat heads" and "gym addict,"but they dispell those ideas by attaining some of the highest GPA's quarterly amongst not only other Greek organization but all campus organization period.

They take the overgeneralizations and SHOW people that they are more than what they are given credit for.

I know you have been preached to countless times and I will apoligize in advance for creating any redundancy on this board. But honestly, when a misguided college woman confronts you with the date rape stereotype and in return you "make some rude comment about her face,boobs, ass or clothes" you aren't dispelling that rumor, but creating a new one that Pikes are assholes. You said yourself that one speaks for many. So why do your chapter wrong and leave a girl, especially a sorority girl with a bad taste in her mouth with respect to ALL Pikes? Because as much as we like to say we are open minded and whatnot, I have seen too many times a girl get her heart broken by or be offended by one guy in a chapter and write the entire chapter off for having any affiliation with the offendor. And trust me, she will bring quite a few girls with her on her anti-XYZ campaign.

I know that a chapter on my campus had the same GHB and date rape rumors flying around about them, but I vehemently defended the chapter simply because I knew quite a few guys in the house and they were gentlemen. Obviously this prompted me to defend them amongst my sisters.

So it's your choice. I hope you will choose to service your chapter and allow girls to see that your brothers are the best because not only are they "hot," but respectable. I know you have the capability to do this.

At Arizona State we are losing more and more chapters every year.
In spring of 2001 Tri Sigma closed due to low numbers and so did Delta Tau Delta.
This Spring of 2002 Sigma Kappa closed because of low numbers. Sigma Nu was suspended for Hazing. And "rumor" has it that Phi Sigma Kappa and maybe Delta Sigma Phi are also suspended.

I don't like to comment one way or another on other GLOs, but I would like to jump in and go on the record as saying that the Pi Kappa Alphas at my school were just the sweetest boys.

They weren't a very big house then (not sure about now, though), but they could always be seen wearing their letters around campus so they were a "presence". They seemed really tight with one another and proud of their brotherhood and, even though they had way fewer brothers than some of the "name" houses, they always managed to do well in Greek Week competitions.

We'd occasionally mix with them or a group of us would go up to some of their parties and we were always struck by how polite they were and how well they treated us.

All in all, a bunch of good guys! :)

I have to say that I am a little taken aback by all of this! It just goes to show that when you post a thread about something negative, negative things will be posted. Although I am sure that we can all "learn" from the mistakes of other chapters, I have a pretty good idea that their HQ had good reasons for suspending their membership. As for the DZ's at Bama, they are now going strong and have been since the early 90s. And I'm sure that there are GLOs all over the place that chapters have closed and then been rechartered. I think we should all focus on the positive...here I'll start.

This is Delta Zeta's Centennial Year! Last fall, we opened a chapter at Bowling Green S.U....Later this year, we will open 3 more. Now THATS something to post about!

Another positive thing...none of us have allowed for UF_Pike to change our positive image of Pi Kappa Alpha. I know I sure haven't. Although, I would like to hear from more FSU Pikes to see if they all think like that! (Maybe its the water...)

Right. So we're supposed to be discussing who has left campus for whatever reason and then came back...

Florida Delta, my own beloved chapter, was given her first charter in 1969, but the attitude at UF toward Greek life became negative and many sororities suffered a decrease in membership. Florida Delta voted to relinquish the charter and become alumnae rather than have the name of Pi Beta Phi thought of as anything but the best. (I'm copying this from my new member manual. :))

In 1984 the Grand Council thought it was a good time for our re-introduction to UF and by the end of recruitment Florida Delta initiated 100 new members.

In 1993 we finally got our own house, and we're not going anywhere this time.

Does anyone else from UF know anything about the 70's at UF? With the current state of affairs it's weird to think of Greek life being looked so badly upon back then. But it was a different time. Other fish to fry, I guess.

I don't know everyone who's come and gone, but Delta Chi closed its doors in 2001. Chi Phi is back. Pi Lambda Phi came back a few years ago.

There are only two at UCF that I know of that closed their chapter doors.
ACACIA just left this year.
AXO left about ten years ago...maybe even a little longer.

UF-Pike, I do not know if you are a Pike or not, but While I figure you may be very young, you are still full of Piss and Viniger! That means you are a new Initiate and Hold strong oppinions towards your Fraternity?

I know or knew Pikes on my campus who do not act like you do and you show disrespect not only to all of the Greeks ln Site but your Fraternity as well!

If you truly are a Member Of PKA, you will get it together and give some positive imput and not negative, foul mouthed slants to everyone else!

I am from Boulder. It is kind of like that, but I am not sure entirely what you are stating. We are not allowed to put the University's name on anything, so we just put Boulder, CO. For example on Greek Week shirts it would be more like:

Greek Weed 2002
Boulder, CO
(instead of University of Colorado)

Does this help? The University doesnt exactly care for us, but they havent forced us underground. They almost wouldnt support recruitment this year though. We changed the dates so now it is university supported. If it were not we would not be able to send out mailers informing of recruitment, have an orientation table and representatives, or anything like that (I think, not 100% sure...I graduated this may so Im outta the loop now.)

Your promises to your Pike brothers apparently don't mean a thing, UF_Pike. Twice now I've seen you post in the Pike forum that you would tone your comments down. The last one specifically mentioned that you would stop cussing on GC. The fact that you aren't respecting your brothers' requests to stop making obscene comments makes me wonder if you're actually a Pike. A few years ago, there were many UF Pikes who were released from membership because of behavior problems... It wouldn't surprise me a bit if you were one of them. If you're truly a Pike, then please stop and think about how your founders would feel if they could see how you're representing their outstanding organization. You are doing nothing but hurting the reputation of decent Pikes all over this country with your posts.
