Let's be real. All of you are holding on to hometeam hopes. But no matter who wins the conference championships, NEITHER team in the East will be EITHER team in the West. The BENCHES in the WEST are much DEEPER than the BENCHES in the EAST. Boston can't run with either the KINGS or LAKERS. Also they have No Answer for SHAQ or Kobe. Besides Paul Pierce is in CHOKE mode. New Jersey isn't CLUTCH, they BLOW huge leads and they have weak a$$, undependable, no aggressiveness or defense having SCARY KITTLES. Jason Kidd is the ONLY real TALENT on that squad. Unfortunately he is not enough. Boston had many chances to come back and showed NO HEART.

Steeltrap 05-31-2002 01:44 PM

Before I disappear...

This nervous fan says Lakers in seven.

I hope that "Laker Head Coach Phillip" (smack courtesy of Jim Rome :p) doesn't try to overcoach and the Daddy doesn't go scoreless in crunch time. Because if the Lakers do not pull it out, the Diesel will get big-azz blame.

thesweetestone 05-31-2002 06:05 PM

sorry to disagree

Sac in six!:D

Blueknowledge 05-31-2002 09:58 PM

Get READY. HERE WE COME!!!!

When I first stated that the Nets were going to win it all, I had many detractors. Well, now we're 4 wins away and I'm sure we're going to get the job done.

The party in the Meadowlands Parking lot will commence as soon as we finish off either the LA Fakers or the Sacremento Queens. Either one, it doesn't matter. Bring it on!

Blueknowledge

BTW - don't forget, the Holyfield fight is this weekend.

stillwater15 06-01-2002 01:07 AM

interesting game 6 between sacramento and l.a. i'm not a fan of either team, but l.a. shot like 20 something free throws in the 4th quarter alone. guess all that complaining about the officiating is paying dividends.

congrats to the n.j. nets. maybe they're on the road to being known as something other than the franchise that sold dr. j. to the 76ers.

UNIQUE97 06-03-2002 01:50 AM

YEAH!!!

LAKERS WIN!! Now on to the CHAMPIONSHIP!!!:D

Steeltrap 06-03-2002 11:28 AM

All hot. All black. All diesel.

LAKERS!

http://www.plauder-smilies.de/jump.gif

You just can't underestimate the heart and will of a champion. Champions step up in the fourth quarter and OT (as in the seventh game).

This champion also has something that cannot be stopped -- Shaq. Never mind the Diesel's appalling, quasi-clownish off-court gear.

The Daddy came to play in games 6 and 7, with 76 points, plenty of boards, intimidating defense and making his throws when need be.

Kobe did his part, but the key in the last game was the handsome Rick Fox. Getting a double-double is always a plus from someone other than the Big Two.

Dexter 06-03-2002 11:39 AM

Lakers Win(blah,blah,blah)

Alright they pulled out the victory. The difference wasn't Shaq or Kobe. The difference is Championship experience. Anytime the game is on the line and your team is shooting 50% from the free throw line, you cannot win. So congrats to all of you laker fans, especially HER ROYAL HIGHNESS, LADY STEEL STRAP OF THE PINK AND GREEN.

Lakers over Nets in 4 maybe 5.

thesweetestone 06-03-2002 12:45 PM

Yeah, I think the Lakers will take it too! I am hoping the Nets will pull it together and get the championship  http://www.plauder-smilies.de/happy/roflmao.gif

Thanks, Dex. Sacramento, however, gave the Lakers all they could handle. It's a good team, and Michael Bibby is a star. Chris Webber, however, has to step up. Franchise players, especially those w/$120 million contracts, must demand the ball at the end of the game.

TLAW 06-03-2002 10:38 PM

Lakers still have the mental edge, and the Kings will have to wait one more year because they have not figured out how to play like champions
Y'all can say what you want about Chris Webber, nut he holds a special place in the hearts of "us" Tarheelz everywhere! LOL!

LOL! Poor Chris, he will never live that down.

I agree Steeltrap, Bibby is a star, Sacramento needs make sure that they resign him cuz cutie pie (chris) is def. not playing like the franchise player.

I'm glad the Lakers pulled it out but they had me scared as hell.

GO LAKERS!!!

Btw, I'm happy for Byron Scott too! :p

PrettyGirl6_02 06-07-2002 12:59 PM

Lakers in 5!

The Lakers had me pretty scared for a minute.

I agree that Sacramento gave them all they could take, but in the end it's the heart of a champion that matters. Sacramento has a lesson to be learned. Better luck next year.

But for now . . .

3-peat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go Lakers!!!!!!!!!!!!

UCFPhiDelt 06-07-2002 01:54 PM

Nets

I have to go with the Nets. I am originally from 'Jersey and I have to support the old home team. I like Shaq and I used to watch him play back when he was in Orlando (back when they were in the finals, those were the days.) But I have to root for the Nets as the underdogs. They didn't get it done in game 1 but I still think they can take a game or two.

That's my 2 cents.

Steeltrap 06-08-2002 02:21 PM

Beyond the daddy. He's the diesel daddy.

S-H-A-Q-U-I-L-L-E!
One word says it all. It shows, at least so far, that if you have two superstars (Kobe's been holding his own), you can do well in an NBA finals situation.

Shaq is making the Nets centres look like little girls. But I'm not surprised. Nets Coach Byron Scott came up under Pat Riley, and to quote the Los Angeles Times this morning, Scott believes in "manly" defense, which means no tricks, the centre must play the Diesel straight up.
And see what happens. An angry Shaq (thanks to whiny Rick Adelman) pulverizes the poor centres:

OneOneTwo 06-08-2002 04:36 PM

I hope the NETS win because I'm tired of the Lakers.

P. S. I guess that means I need to be watching the game instead of working huh?

nmachio 06-08-2002 09:56 PM

ok, there are many, many reasons that I do not want the damn, LA Lakers to win anything. Kobe Bryant is the main one. He is one of the rudest and cockiest basketball player on the face of the planet. I know the kid came to the NBA straight out of high school, but come on, get over yourself. When a 22 year old, looks at one of the best coaches, ever in the NBA, and mimics him like a 5 year old, he has got to go!!
Basically all my reasons lead up to the unsportsmanlike conduct that is protrayed on that team. They ALL play dirty and I hope they lose it all.

Well, the Lake Show is up 3-0. And "Komee Biant" (courtesy of Robert Horry's little boy, as quoted in the LA Times) stepped up with 36 points. Of course, the hot, sweaty Diesel Daddy produced, w/35 points.

just curious as to why you called the nets the piscataway pests. i've never heard of this "nickname". piscataway is about 40 minutes from e. rutherford (where the nets play).

TLAW 06-10-2002 09:55 AM

I agree that Kobe Bryant is a cocky, rude and sometimes, he borders on the insolent. I don't think every player should go to the pros out of high school, but Kobe is an exception.
Still, for all the complaints we make about Kobe, his attitude reminds me a lot of MJ in his early days. Anyone who follows him will know what I mean. Remember when Isaiah dem showed him out for disrespecting the old heads during his first All-Star game? He is a talented player, and he backs up all the trash talking. As for Shaq, you have to give him his props. Go look at Shaq 6 or 7 years ago, and compare that to him today. He has worked at his game, and it pays off. It's not everyday you see a 7-ft, 400-pounder do up-and-down fake out reverse lay-ups.
Though they are Goliaths, they are darn good.
Why is it that I feel that they just weathered the best the Nets could muster up? After Jason Kidd, who is the best player on the Nets?

This was some years ago (the 1980s, I believe), but I remember the Pisacataway Pests slam in a Sporting News column. The writer was basically clowning the Nets for actions in the past such as getting rid of Julius Erving.

I agree about Kobe. He is a good basketball player. I've heard other players as well as old school players say that he is the maturist young player they ever met (as far as it pertains to basket ball). His work ethic and devotion to the game will always make him good. But please stop all of this comparing people to MJ.
Kobe is no where close to MJ. The best out of high school player is TRACY MCGRADY. The only other person that MIGHT be comparible to MJ is Vince Carter!! As far as the second best player behind Jason Kidd is Richard Jefferson or Kenyon Martin. Everybody else just SUCKS!!!!

Kevin Garnett is also a very good out of high school player, although not close to M.J. overall.

TLAW 06-12-2002 01:34 PM

I agree, nobody is close to MJ. Wasn't trying to compare the skills. And, since I am a Tarheel, I do believe Vince is the second coming of His Airness.
Tracy Mcgrady? Very, very good. Compared to Kobe? Hmmm... I think Kobe is a better defensive player than Tracy. Tracy talks a good game, is tough, and never shrinks away from challenges. KG is also a bad boy, but he needs to take his team to the next level. Three of them are the best things out of high school.
I think the Nets should shop around for a center, a real good one, who can at least score in the double digits. Kenyon is good, but needs to dominate the forwards. The whole Eastern division needs to get bigger boys in the middle. If the T-wolves and Grizzlies get to switch to the Eastern Conference like they want to, there might be more competition towards the Atlantic.

What?!? T-Mac's defense is much better than Kobe's! Do you remember T-mac Shutting down the "BIG DOG" Glenn Robinson,
during the playoffs last year? Or when put the handcuffs on KOBE and held him to 16 points? Bruh, PLEASE!! C'mon! Noy to mention T-mac has a better jump shot and three point shooting percentage for the season: Kobe 25%-T-Mac 43%(Three point)

TLAW 06-12-2002 04:41 PM

Kobe vs. T-Mac

Aw, c'mon Dexter! I am not a big Kobe fan, and I do prefer both Vince and Tracy to Kobe, but the stats don't lie. T-Mac shut down Glen Robinson? A man almost twice his age? Who went to the conference finals, though. Big Dog still averaged double figures. How many times has T-Mac made the All-Defensive team? Kobe made firt team last year, and Second this season. And 3-pt shooting does not fully quantify a player. I do give T-Mac props on scoring, but what happens when he isn't the only option? I am sure it would be different with a healthy Grant Hill. As it is, T-Mac is the only scorer, which kind of pads his stats.
Still, all that being said, T-Mac is the man....

You're bruh. You hit the nail on the head. T-mac is the only option. HE, like MJ, can carry a team by themselves. Kobe can't! He can't win long term without Shaq. T-Mac even took them to the playoffs! Just like MJ when he first came into the league. Big Dog isn't sorry. He avarages 23 to 25 points per game and T-Mac held him in the finals to 13!!

I went to bed early last night, so did the Lakers win?

Unfortunately,
The Lakers did sweep the Nets, so they 3-peated!
Maybe next year, someone can stop 'em.

Last night's game was much closer than I'd like it to be. But once again, it showed how valuable the Big Janitor is, since his effort was very key in sweeping the Nets away.

Now, we have the parade and I hope that Madsen doesn't make an azz of himself, w/the dork dance. The Lakers, however, must think about going over the luxury tax to get another scorer.

Today, the Lakers used Jellybean's kid and the father of Shaquir Rashaun O'Neal for victory. It's not going to be easy, with NO home court, but maybe there will be "quat-row."
