Melanie Thornton was born in May 1967 in South Carolina in the USA. She studied singing as a child and began working with US jazz and blues bands. She found success in Germany, where she arrived in 1992 with just $15. Spotted by Frank Farian (Boney M., Milli Vanilli) in Frankfurt, she went on to front dance act La Bouche with rapper Lane McCray. La Bouche had a series of No. 1 hits including the singles Be My Lover, Sweet Dreams and Falling In Love. The Sweet Dreams album was a major success in Europe and the group made two more, Moment of Love in 1998 and SOS in 1999. But Ms. Thornton left the group in February 2000 for an independent career. Her first solo single, Love How You Love Me, was a hit in Germany in November 2000. Singles like Heartbeat and Making Oohh Oohh followed. Beautiful Dream - Holidays Are Coming has been chosen as the song for a new Coca-Cola TV commercial. Before this song and her album "Ready to Fly" was released, Melanie tragically died in a plane crash on the 24th of November, 2001. |
Re: Re: Re: Re: I hate to say this, but....
Thanks for the clarification, 1Babygirl2000. I totally forgot about her. I do remember hearing about her passing though. It seems really eerie that she passed one day before the three month anniversary of Aaliyah's passing. The weirdest thing is that they all died in crashes, although Left Eye's was in an SUV.

La Bouche singer?
What? Are you all speaking of the original lady "Be my lover" song or another one? Is this the same one that was "Where are they now" from VH-1? ON that episode it said that the lady had gotten married and was producing a trio which included her niece?
I hadn't heard about her. How long ago was this? |

Speaking of singers we recently lost
Let's not forget the female singer in Soul To Soul who was recently killed in England. Reports say she was running from security in a clothing store who were chasing her for thinking she was shoplifting. She ran out of the store and was struck down by two cars. I can't remember her name, but if any of you guys do please let me know.

Not Caron! I can't believe that!
 |
Wuuuuuuuuuuuut...........
I was wondering what ever happend to her and the group Soul II Soul recently, because lately they have been rockin' KEEP ON MOVING, and BACK TO LIFE, on the radio, and that one song,
Blue is the color of rain, that she made *SOLO*. But it is an old school radio station so I thought nothing of it. |
Do'reen, a one time singer English R&B group Soul II Soul is dead after a robbery she was involved in went horribly wrong.
The 36 year old was shoplifting from a store in Sussex when she was caught by staff. She ran out of the store and into the oncoming traffic and was hit by three cars. Do'reen, whose real name was Doreen Waddell sang lead vocal on the Soul II Soul hit "Feel Free" from their first album 'Club Classics Vol 1". The song was the second single from the album but failed to chart. It was Caron Wheeler out front of "Keep On Movin'" that made the act a success. Soul II Soul topped the charts with the song Back to Life on the same album, in which Caron Wheeler was the lead singer. Waddell had not been active in the music industry for several years, and neighbours quoted by the Daily Telegraph newspaper said she did not talk about her time with Soul II Soul. "She wasn't really earning the sort of money that she had done but she didn't let that get her down," the newspaper quoted Annie Ingham, a neighbour in Shoreham, as saying. "You have to remember she had been a very successful singer who had appeared on television . . . and then suddenly it was all gone. She never resented that, but it didn't mean life was easy," she said. Soul II Soul said it would not comment on Waddell's death. She was attempting to shoplift from a Tesco store in West Sussex. Do'reen is survived by a 4 year old son. By Paul Cashmere |
Afrochic, thank for clearing this up. i thought it was Caron Wheeler.

TLC Looks to Replace Left Eye on TV
By James Hill, BET.com Staff Writer
Posted June 29, 2004 -- Since the 2002 death of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, the pop group TLC has been struggling to regain the spotlight. That may change if a new FOX reality show surrounding the now two-member group gets off the ground. The proposed idea, which Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas have already agreed to, will see singers compete to become the third member of the group. http://www.bet.com/articles/0,,c3gb9963-10988,00.html |
I'm kinda mad at them about this. They made such a big deal about how they were not going to replace Lisa and how people where coming up to them after she died and told them that they could rap and wanted to be part of the group. They sounded very upset, but now I quess they need $$$$$$. Oh Well....

The part that disgusts me most is not that they are replacing her, but that they're capitalizing off of her death by participating in a reality show. I bet if they didn't stand to gain monetary rewards, they wouldn't consider it. I think it's just a bit tacky.

They need to let that go. They will end up like En Vogue. Their shyt won't sell! |

TLC Survivors Get Real for UPN
1 hour, 56 minutes ago Entertainment - Reuters By Nellie Andreeva LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - UPN has teamed with the remaining members of TLC, Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas, for a reality series aimed at resurrecting the famous 1990s trio that was struck by tragedy in 2002 when member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes died in a car crash. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...evision_tlc_dc |

They don't really need to replace Left Eye.. they need to get in the studio as TLC and keep it moving... when you really look at it (song wise) they can still make it. Creep, Unpretty, No Scrubs, Red Light Special, Baby Baby Baby were all hits without Left Eye on the track. Replacing Left Eye will alienate fans and contradict the groups "keep it real" attitude after they swore to never replace her. I know this is probably about money but they can make it without replacing a core member like Left Eye

It's supposed to be TEMPORARY(the replacement), So, my questiion is....WHY EVEN GO THERE? (publicity? money? money? money?)
Why can't they perform as solo artists? |

*Sigh*. I don't care what their reasoning is, or their excuses, you cannot replace Left Eye. End. Of. Story. And for that matter, could you IMAGINE being on the other side of it - - having the unmitigated GALL to think you could could fill her shoes??? UGH!!!!!!!
Okay, so I just read the article - - and WTH is going on????!!! "The upcoming UPN reality show with the surviving members of TLC is a tribute to their fans, not a search for a new member to replace Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes....". What??? Then HC they're going to record a song and do a show and so on and so forth? And the group is temporary?? Hayle, I don't know what's going on.............................................. *SMH* |

Well then, they NEEDS to not disrespect Left Eye. "This is what she would WANT us to do.....involve the fans!!". Pshhhhh..
|
Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas and Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins are looking to collaborate with a new voice, but the TLC stars insist they're not trying to replace the late Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes.
