The only good thing about the wings...steve yzerman and bredan shanahan...the rest, blah...

Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! Nazzy's top shelf - damn sweet goal!
The West Coast Express strikes again |
Detroit, 6 playoff losses in a row, heehee
|
the way that last game was played i thought i was watching the hall of famers game at the all-star break.
Q: what's better than detroit bowing out in the first round? A: Hasek retiring with zero stanley cup rings, geuss you won't be considered the greatest, eh champ? |
the post above me brings to mind a buffalo t shirt circultiong towards the end of my time there:
"Wide Right No Goal Forward Lateral SCREWED AGAIN!" |
Ottawa pulled out a 3-0 blanking of the fliers - stellar.
...Lalime's clocking a .47 GAA!!! |
That was so cool to see Ottawa win, and a shut out too...
I am super nervous for tonight's game.... |
YEA!! my devils won!!!
in celebration ~~ i wore my pajama pants with little devils all over them to our informal meeting tonight! i love it |
Thank God for small favors...nice to see the Red Wings finally decided to show up and join the playoffs. Great game last night, even with the continuously lousy ref-ing. What the hell were they thinking with that penalty shot?!?
|
That penalty shot was totally legit, besides right before the red wings scored their 1st goal they knocked over Cloutier and that should have been a penalty.
Overall I'm not too sad about last night's game - I didn't expect to sweep the red wings, however that would have been really cool. Canuck's fans are the best - even though we were loosing the whole time we never once booed our team, in fact just cheered them the whole way though - and the Garage didn't empty out at the end either... We are insane - it's only the 1st round and 200 people showed up at the airport at 2am to greet the Canucks back to Vancouver. |

Canuck fans are the best?!? They were chanting a heckling "Hasek" as soon as the first puck dropped. How childish. |
Oh my! Them chanting "Hasek" was AWESOME!!! I loved it :) As for the Flyers, god, someone just beat them, b/c this town can't handle big sporting events!!!
Sad to say, but I'm going for Colorado....GO AVS!!! Heather |

Yeah no kidding, the wings fans can't be considered real fans since most have only watched hockey since 1997. Not saying you leslie, but most are. Want proof of this? A real team's fans such as vancouver didn't boo their team despite Cloutiers' terrible goal that he let in.
And I sure hope Philadelphia loses too, hmm who should I go for? I will go for whoever wins the cup. |
What happened to the Islanders? I'm out of the loop.

This is what playing a team is like, and not a collection of individuals - one goal in 10 periods of hockey?!?!? Sorry, better luck next year. |

In fact, Ex-Greek, Brett Hull even did an interview after game two putting down the fans behavior...not too flattering. I just hate it that the Wings always get picked on year after year. Yeah we have a lot of good players and yeah we are the top seated team coming into the playoffs but we screw up and have bad games just like everyone else. I don't see people insulting Colorado or even saying, "Ha ha, Dallas didn't even make it into the playoffs, what losers!" All the abuse is heaped on Detroit because we're a popular team. [stepping off my soapbox] |
Woo hoo another shutout for the sens - last I checked the Islanders were down 2-0 to the Leafs - yeah for Canadian Hockey teams - lets hope Van and Montreal get wins in their next games - my boyfriend is sooooo lucky - he's going to tonight's game. Apparently the decible levels at Sunday's were equivalent to that of a rock concert - now that's cool.
To explain the shoot out penalty - Bertuzzi had a breakaway he was hooked/tripped by a wing (can't remember who), so therefore it's automatically a penalty shot, because if he wasn't tripped then he had a high chance of scoring, therefore you are given the opportunity to score with only the goalie as a means of defense. |

Now when dealing with detroit, i jeer them just as i hate the other big money spenders like colorado and new york. These teams are the worse for going out and more or less stealing players from teams that can't afford the ridiculous salaries that some of these athletes are being paid. I support the Ottawa Senators. This is a franchise; that despite incredible fan support, great corporate sponsorship and excellent management in drafting, developing and trading players; is at a considerable disadvantage because of greater economic circumstances of a small market base, low Canadian dollar and unfair tax structure. I stuck with this team 10 years ago when they were amassing 33 points a year and continued to ride-out all the bumps that came along the way. 8 out of the 10 teams with the lowest payrolls did not make the playoffs this year. By all logic, a team with ottawa's disadvantages should not be able to compete, let alone make incredibly smart business decisions year after year (Alfreddson was drafted in the 5th round for anyone who doesn't know). 26 out of the 30 NHL teams lost money last year, who do you think is contributing to the downfall of the league? The team that refuses to pay a player who demands more money even though he is still under contract, or the team that goes out and buys 5 or 6 players in one year? i'll say whatever the hell i want about detroit. how's that sound. |

Lil_G...don't forget that the Rangers and Stars, Numbers 1 and 4 on the payroll list, ALSO did not make the playoffs...it's not about the payroll...it's about the desire to win the cup.
What are the players paid for playing in the playoffs? Nothing, unless as a team they win it all....that's what I love about the hockey playoffs. I'd love to see Ottowa do well - without Yashin, they might go farther this year...I've never seen a player single-handedly choke an entire team like that before...the Islanders are going to learn that one the hard way as well. |
I think what Lil' G is touching on is the fact that the canadian dollar cannot compete with the US dollar and if US hockey team price tags keep going up ours will have to as well. And there are low budget teams this year that made it to the playoffs, but you also need money to run the hockey club overall - and this is what Canadian hockey fans are worried about - if the 2004 decision goes the wrong way, all we may be left with is Toronto.
Take for example the Winnipeg Jets - not a bad team, great fan support - probably the best in Canada, but the franchise could not generate the funds - so the Jets became the Coyotes... I hope the Liberals or whoever will be in power over the next couple of years will reintroduce the idea of the government putting some money into our teams - I wouldn't mind my tax dollars going to that ;). |
Not that anyone cares on this thread...being all obessesed with the canucks and such - but my devils won again - playing like i'm used to...but this home advantage thing sacres me ..... we gotta win an away game - NOW! lol ---
as always, disney, delta zeta, and devils hockey ... |

Things are going well actually, thanks for asking :) I just like to see the wings lose, because it's teams like them and the rest of the big spenders that are killing the game. There has to be some incentive for fans in the small markets to support their team, so i cheer for the little guy and not the team that's won x amount of cups in x amont of years. Just seems like you haven't attributed any respect to the canucks organization either, if when detroit won their last game you complained about the penalty shot...Why? did he score, what's the point? |
Quote:
My point is that whether Bertuzzi scored or not, the shot should never have taken place at all. It's terrible calls like that which can sometimes win or lose games. The refs are there to regulate fair play, not to (possibly) effect the scoreboard. Star Turtle - congrats to your Devils :) On a positive (and greek related) note, during the first period intermission, Ray Lane interviewed Jiri Fischer about his goal and the goal of defense partner Chris Chelios calling them the "Blue Liners Fraternity." :) |
Yeah Devils! :D
|
New series for Detroit and Vancouver. Sleepy time now...!
|
NHL sucks... half the teams make the playoffs.. rather watch excitig junior hockey or NCAA. Wrestling;s the best winter sport.
|
LeslieAGD, it looks like you could use some help holding down the fort for Detroit out here. I'm used to it, being a die hard Wings Fan living in Denver, Colorado, enemy territory. Needless to say, my brothers kept rolling their eyes at me today as I walked past them in my Wings jersey while they were wearing their Av's stuff.
I was mad that the tonight was the first time they did not broadcast the wings game in CO, had to listen on the radio. But indeed it is a new series. All bow down to Stevie Y and his Wings. I don't care who they "bought" in the offseason, the wings belong to Steve Yzerman and he is the driving force. He is playing harder than most of those guys out there, plus nursing his injury still. He rocks. And to all those who like to criticize the bandwagon fans, I live with many Av's bandwagon fans. For the record I was raised for half my life in Detroit and have been a faithful for as long as I can remember. With that said, I'm going to bed and I can't wait until Thursday night. GO WINGS!!! |
WingNut, welcome aboard! Nice to see a Detroit fan defying state borders. Go Red Wings! :)
|
The red wings are like the yankees of hockey, they spend on whoever they want. I hope Colorado beats them in the west semis though Detroit should sweep them. All wings fans claim they have liked them forever but c'mon, I bet none of them know who Jacque Demeres is and what he did for Detroit in the middle to late 80's.
As for the pistons fans booing the canadien national anthem...what about the incidents where canadiens were burning american flags in the streets after Canada beat the US in the gold medal game? |

This is the last thing I'm going to say about fans and then I'm going to try not to comment anymore...no one has perfect fans, last night the Canuck fans threw bottles, wigs, and other things onto the ice after the empty net goal, hitting players and other fans. Canadian...American...it doesn't matter, fans get worked up, out of control, and do stupid things. It's called group mentality. |
CuJo what were you thinking...
Yea for the Habs... Nucks and Wings - it ain't over yet... |
