I can't wait till the new season starts. It's about friking time. I seen every single TNG episode

So what's everyone's favorite episode?

NinjaPoodle 05-28-2004 08:58 PM

It's not my fave but it's important. The ep where Paige is raped. I cry every time I see it. But I'm so glad she stood up to him.

I'm watching this ep now. Lauren Collins (Paige) played the heck out of this part. Yes,I'm boo-hooing all over the place

Did Snake and Joey come to your school asl well?

Snake and Jeey came to Carleton University this year to talk about Degrassi..UNFORTUNATLEY I totally forgot..but i wonder if they came to other schools as well?

YAY!! New season starts tomorrow.

I never watched DJH or D. The look of the show turned me off. However, I love the new one.

My favs: The rape episode was really well done, the one with Liberty and the teacher (message:rumors are bad!), and the one where Hazel pretended to be Jamaican.

Ok can we say identity crisis?? Then the girl had the nerve to be mean to her Muslim classmate..

SSS1365 06-03-2004 09:11 PM

I've only discovered TNG this last weekend, with the "Every episode ever marathon." I used to watch DJH and DH when I was a kid, and of course I had to check out TNG once I realized it existed. I still haven't seen every episode though, but I guess my favorite is the one where Craig cheats on Ashley with Manny.

And the tripped out thing about that ep was after Hazel told the classmate what had happened at her last school, all the classmate said "Sucks to be you" That was down right cold! Here Hazel was trying open up and her classmate dissed her.

My fave ep: Sean and Emma's first date. When Emma get's her friend for the first time. And when Ashely does drugs

abaici 06-03-2004 09:22 PM

Yeah, the episode focusing on Hazel and her identity (or why she hides it) was interesting. However, it's real. People do it all the time in order to deflect attention away from them.

Oh, Craig cheating on Ash with Manny was GOOD! Same episode that Joey and Caitlin finally hook up.

But, I also liked the episode where Manny turns into a hooch

uuuh, yeah!!

Joey is Craig's stepdad. Caitlin is a local celebrity (she works on the news? i can't remember)

Spike (who is Emma's mom) and Snake are married.

Mr. Raditch is still the principal

I think it's pretty cool!!

I'm not drinking Labatts . . . it is nothing but the best (a.k.a. boxed wine ;) ) for me.

Rudey 06-04-2004 08:46 PM

I wish people would stop having so much nostalgia about the 80s.

According to Entertainment Weekly...

There's an episode from this seasons Degrassi that they may or not show in the States. It's an episode surrounding Manny terminating a pregnancy. I would love to see this episode and how Manny and Craig (assuming it's Craig) deal with this.

Sister Havana 06-07-2004 06:20 PM

Yet the episode of Degrassi High, where Erica gets an abortion, was aired in the US. How times change.

SSS1365 06-07-2004 09:14 PM

Apparently that episode has already aired in Canada. And it is Craig's. I'm going to be upset if they don't air it in the US, because one of the things I love about the show is that it deals with real teen issues... Why hide something from us that we know already exists? I guess they think it might encourage teenage girls to go out and terminate their pregnancies

abaici 06-07-2004 09:19 PM

They said it had to do with the "climate" in the States. Also, your last statement was something they alluded to. They said that their was a case of a teen who "cut" herself after viewing the episode about Ellie

SSS1365 06-07-2004 09:27 PM

Hmmm... I guess it's harder for me watching the show as an adult to realize the impact that it can have on teens who are going through a very emotional period. The show does try to send the right message though (like Paige's concern for Ellie, and Ellie seeking counseling), but it's a shame that kids are still out there imitating what they see on TV :(

But it's not like the kid wasn't going to start cutting if it wasn't for Degrassi. There are other TV programs that cover the same issues. There are segments on the news about self-injury all the time, as well as in magazines and newspapers. Not to mention websites, books -- more likely than not, the kid has friends who self-injure!

I hate the whole blame-it-on-TV mentality. Anybody who self-injures has serious emotional issues that lead to the cutting (or burning, starving, whatever their pain of choice is). It's not like someone who's perfectly happy is going to say, "Hey, I think it's a great idea to cut myself with a protractor!" If it wasn't Degrassi, it would have been something else that suggested it.

I think it's interesting that a Degrassi episode on the subject of abortion ran twenty years ago in the US but they're considering not running one now. It's possible that the newer episode deals with the issue in a more matter-of-fact way than the original, but we may never know if we don't get to see this one. ;)

I find it interested as well. But, I look at tv shows from the 70s and 80s and think,"They would never run that on tv today". This usually happens when I watch old eps of Saturday Night Live.

I hope that they do show the eposide her in the states. Provided that they do the eposide right, I'm sure it is not going to encourage girls to run out and terminate pregnancies. Do you know what it takes just to get an apopointment at a clinic these days? The laws are no joke. It's especially tough if you are a minor and wanting to end your pregnancy.

abaici 06-08-2004 01:15 AM

Emma gets on my nerves. At first she was ok, but this season and her Sean vendetta is going to get on my nerves!

And...can Liberty become a little less annoying as well. Give that girl a man!!

Lady Pi Phi 06-08-2004 01:51 PM

My only problem with Degrassi is that the episodes are tired.

I love Degrassi Jr. High and High because it was a fresh show. Now their taking the same story lines and applying to the new characters. Not that these issues don't apply today, but to me it's just not original anymore.

The abortion story line has already been done. They did it on Degrassi High. One of the twins had an abortion.

SSS1365 06-08-2004 02:49 PM

Well I guess you have to take into consideration that their target audience consists of teenagers who were too young to watch/remember the original, and some who may not have even been born! So even though they did the storylines before, it's new to the kids who are watching it now. And I'm entertained by TNG, because I only vaguely remember Degrassi High.
