Hey, that's cool.
Does the winner of
Miss Georgia -> Miss America
or
Miss Georgia -> Miss USA?

Just wondering...that's great...AOII's everywhere must be proud! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

On the More Local level in Miss America system:
I was forunate to compete with some great Greek Ladies at Miss California last year, with 54 women. California has the largest pageant in the Miss America system, I believe...some states have as little as 10!

Miss San Diego: Pierette Robinson is a Pi Beta Phi at UC San Diego, Second Runner up for America Sweetheart Pageant also, Second Runner up to Miss California twice, and 1st Runner up once.

Miss Los Angeles: Nicole Ferrera, THETA at Pepperdine University, Top 5 in Miss CA, Swimsuit winner, and ESPN sports show host.

Miss San Francisco and Currently Miss Marin County: Alyson Daly, Delta Zeta at U. San Francisco President, Top 10 and Swimsuit winner.

Miss Anaheim: Jamie Branch, Gamma Phi Beta

That's all I can remember...and, oh, myself, Nancy Bui, Miss San Luis Obispo County, Hostess Scholarship Winner, Theta at Cal Poly, SLO!

Hey! SLO Theta!

You know Pierrette?
What a small world! She is in my chapter! She was one of my Beta Buddies during pledge period! In fact, we just received a chapter e-mail from her. She has been a runner up for Miss California 2 years in a row now. We are so proud of her! You can actually see results from the pageant at www.misscalifornia.org. She won the bathing suit contest. There are plenty of pictures of her! But only headshots from what I've seen, guys! Haha http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif In addition to these accomplishments, she has almost single handedly gotten us where we are in IFC sports! Girlfriend is some sorority football quarterback! She took some major blows to the face and suffered many a bloody nose and bruises all in the name of Pi Beta Phi! Haha.

I heard about this at Convention....

It's great to see the sororities represented in Iowa! Miss Iowa 2000 is a Tri-Delt...and Miss Iowa 2001 is an Alpha Gam! We can't wait to watch the Miss America pageant this year!

LightBulb 12-27-2004 06:24 AM

This past year's Miss Arkansas for the Miss USA pageant was an Alpha Sigma Tau! She (Jennifer Sherrill) won the Miss Photogenic award!

Terri Utley, 1982 Miss America, was also Alpha Sigma Tau. :)

Xylochick216 12-27-2004 08:13 AM

Miss America 2005, Deidre Downs, is an Alpha Chi Omega from the Zeta Lambda chapter at the University of Virginia :)

There are others, I'm just too lazy to look them up right now :)

kddani 12-27-2004 09:16 AM

wow, this thread is old! there's a ton of threads listing who's been in Miss America, Miss USA, etc. if you're curious

Buff 12-27-2004 10:15 AM

One of my Sigma Alpha sisters, Melissa Moser was the Michigan Apple Queen a couple of years ago. She intends to run for Miss Michigan this summer.

kddani 12-27-2004 10:21 AM

one of my "sisters" won the Ms/Mr. SHIM title a few years back

RedRoseSAI 12-27-2004 12:57 PM

Katie Harman, Miss America 2002 is an SAI. There is usually at least one sister in each year's pageant, but I honestly haven't been following it as closely as I used to.

honeychile 12-27-2004 01:24 PM

From our website:

Ashley Eicher, Miss Tennessee 2004

Lauren Kelsey Hall, Miss Ohio 2003

Lu Parker, Miss USA (1994? 1995?)

Neva Jane Langley Fickling, Miss America 1953

Dr. Freita Fuller Keluche, Miss Alabama; runner-up in Miss America pageant

Janice Robinson McDonald, Miss Missouri

Donna Hild Russell, Mrs. America 1985; fourth runner-up to Mrs. World, 1986

Jodi Rutledge, Miss Canada 1983

...but I'm sure there are more.

Glitter650 12-27-2004 02:02 PM

Miss Florida 2002, Shannon Ford, is a Phi Sig.

OleMissGlitter 12-27-2004 04:45 PM

Miss Mississippi--Heather Soriano 1999
AOII from Ole Miss

Miss University 2003--Jennifer Jernigan was either a KD or a DG from Ole Miss...I'm thinking she was a KD though....

Neva Fickling is a lovely woman & an accomplished pianist -- she won all 3 preliminary catagories in the pageant & is the only Miss America ever from Georgia. She graduated from Wesleyan College in 1953 -- (I guess they still had GLOs at that time?)

Just a bit of trivia...

Mary Ann Mobley was Linda Mead Shea's Big Sister in Chi Omega. Mary Ann won the crown in 1958 & then crowned Linda in 1959!

Danielle, sorry for the bump... I found this randomly when I was searching for website threads.

Ooooo...and one of my favorites: Bobbie Eakes followed her sister's footsteps and was a great Miss Georgia in the mid 1980s. She was a Top Ten Finalist at Miss America.

Miss Philadelphia 2004 is a Tri Sigma from St. Joseph's Univ. (Delta Psi).

Bobbie Eakes though isn't listed as a sister (at this point). Albeit the website is new and they are listing new "accomplished" sisters everyday but so far she hasn't been listed, so it might be a rumor that she is an ADPi. [shrugs shoulders]

Ya know, I was wondering that too -- (I recall honeychile & I discussing this previously, I think.) I really, really thought she was an ADPi. I attended the Miss Georgia pageant when she relinquished her crown & I also recall she hosted a Miss Mercer pageant I attended. Seems like she went to UGA -- and I really thought she pledged ADPi.

Bobbie Eakes an ADPi?

Famous Sorority Women

She's listed here -- Wonder how accurate this list is? (All of the Chi Omegas on this list are indeed members.)

Maybe email your Executive Office & see what they say?

I am absolutely sure I've seen Bobbie Eakes on several lists of famous ADPi's. Not being a soap opera fan (*ducks*), I don't really know her.

NutBrnHair, where on earth did you find that list?! It's awesome!!! The Crown Princess of Norway is a DZ?!?!?!?!

honeychile 12-29-2004 10:16 PM

Oh, btw, on our new website, it states that an ADPi wrote the first Betty Crocker cookbook. Not that she is Betty Crocker, but that she wrote the book. And I'll be editing to add her name soon...

Agnes White Tizard, Sigma, Nutritionist; "Betty Crocker" authored Betty Crocker cookbook

As I recall, that list is pretty accurate, although not entirely. For example, most of the Tri Delts listed are accurate -- however, Farrah Fawcett was NOT a Tri Delta, although I believe it's true that she was a pledge. (Heather Whitestone was also an AOPi pledge, I believe, and never a full-fledged member.) The site also lists Sandra Day O'Connor as a Pi Phi when I'm pretty sure she isn't Greek (didn't she go to Stanford during the era when sororities were outlawed?). Many of the names are correct, but not all of them.

Update from the "resaearch department" -- Bobbie Eakes' bio says she attended Univ. of Georgia for 2 years.

honeychile 12-29-2004 11:06 PM

I think there are a LOT of famous sorority women who pledged, but went on to fame & fortune prior to initiation.

It just thrills me to see a Panhellenic site for this, though. Sometimes the individual sorority brag-a-thons get a little mucky (to say the least!).

AnchorAlum 12-29-2004 11:16 PM

Regarding Sandra Bullock, she went to the University of Maryland I believe.
I think she was a Greek, but I don't know which group.

AGDLynn 12-29-2004 11:48 PM

My sister-daughter's roomie was Miss Georgia at the time.....I was NOT impressed with her! thankfully, she didn't attempt to go through recruitment.

My chapter pledged the sister of a very famous actress... I don't know if she depledged or is not in Good Standing...

So..even crowns and fame don't solve everything.

Kelli McCarty, Miss USA 1991, is a Gamma Phi and now plays Beth Wallace on Passions.

Heather also won Most Beautfiul in 1998, my sophomore year.

I also think that these two KD twins, The McDonald twins won some titles in Missouri I believe. I remember that from when they went through rush at Ole Miss. They are so beautiful.
