Ok, Free is really tripping. I think Jay-Z has made the hand sign so popular that folks thinks it aight. |
Did anybody see when Free was trying to get AJ to do the AKA call? She kept saying to him, "do it do it. Can you get your voice to go that high?" AJ ignored her and tried to hurry up and go to commercial and she just kept telling him to try and do it. The AKAs did not look happy. I started to think she was doing everything on purpose. I mean not only throwing up the pyramid but also trying to get a non-member to do the AKA call. She knew what she was doing.

I'm a little sad because I totally forgot about the competition!! I'll have to record it and see it tomorrow. I didn't even realize that I had missed it until it was 7pm. dang it...but the commentary that I read from you all definitely has me interested in what I missed today. I knew you all would keep a sistah informed. ;)
|
i watched a tape of today's 106th & park. first, i realize that one minute isn't nearly enough time, but i was a little disappointed in the sorors choice of steps. i'll leave it at that.
as for free. she needs a swift kick in the azz. |

DITTO on all fronts, especially the swift kick to Free's azz. |
Okay, I'm going to have to be honest up in here. While my Sorors had me OOO-OOPing all up in my house, I was a little disappointed and shocked. I have never seen Sorors step like that. It was a little too Omega Psi Phi for me. I didn't like the manly feel of the steps. Deltas that I have seen step down here in the ATL stepped like women but still tight.
I still voted for them though :p :D ;) !! |
Greetings Sorors and friends. Let’s face it the real reason for BET having this so-called Step Competition is just to raise their ratings. I might be old school, but I know a pile of stuff when I smell it. BET has long since abandoned its concern for the black youth in America. I have nothing against Rap; it’s a very creative art form. However, you can’t live on it 24/7, and that’s what being pumped into our kids. I’ve been teaching them for some time now. How much booty call can you take? Don’t answer that question; I really don’t want to know.
Originally, I had planned to go to the taping of the show; I live in NYC, in spite of the so-called boycotting of BET. And I read a piece that was place on the chat that was an April Fool joke about the changes that BET had made in it’s programming. I got to thinking that I really didn’t need to support something that I didn’t agree with. Again, we’ve been had. I remember seeing the call up for step teams to participate in the show. The ad stated that the show would give our organizations an opportunity to share some of the projects and community service activities that we spearhead or participate in. Alas, this was not the case. I watched spokes people having to rush through their spiel just so their team had time to step. Here we go looking like all our organizations do is step. This is too much for me. I’ve had it with BET. If you want to see real shows, go to Step Correct or buy a video, leave BET alone. And that's my22 cents |
what up sorors!
i was disappointed in the in the wild display of fraternity steps last night. we can pay homage to the brothers anytime, but this show should have been a showcase of Delta Sigma Theta for the public, not a show on the yard. we were on tv, even if only bet. non-greeks will think that is how all deltas step. they were representin'! i know i'm old school, and probably just old, but come on youngins'! |
106th & Park Stepoff
I have to say sisters... even though 1 minute was not enough..
Our girls did real good!!! Delta Love! |
I thought they did a great job. I was just wondering if people were having a hard time actually voting on the website?
Good Job Ladies.... |
hey ladies of DST...just wanted to give you guys prop...the step team did great (but that is just my humble opinion, what do I know about stepping)..as for free...what in the world is up with her..did she grow up in a white neighborhood or somethin?? she was throwin up the signs and all...i may just be a gdi, but she is wrong as wrong can be...n.e who..congrats on the job well done..toodles

Hello sorors,
I must say that I am a little disappointed that sorors were not feeling that step on BET. My chapter personally did that step "Its a fine time" back in 98 for a stepshow competition and won!!!! :D I thought that the sorors who did the show, (who I know personally), did a FABULOUS job. They had lots of enthusiam, enunciated every word, and were very precise in their show. Compared to the AKA team, there was no doubt in my mind that sorors rocked that show! They had me oo-ooping and throwing up signs in the hair salon :D We also have to consider that sorors had like only 2 minutes to impress everyone. There clearly wasnt enough time to do other steps that would have been more "lady-like". Whats wrong with sorors getting down and rocking a step that would get everyone hype instantly???? Thats just my 4 cents :) |
I havent seen the show yet, someones taping it for me....but did someone say, alphas used staffs, if so, thats the first alpha team, ive EVER, i mean EVER seen using a staff/cane....
also i know you women are ticked with the whole free/hand signal use...i would too...but i bet she doesnt realize how much we value it.... nevertheless, i know the girls from our schools chapter are ticked, and i can see them now, 1. checking priceline/travelocity for the first flight east... 2. getting the vaseline/hairpins/nails fortified 3. getting the ponytail together and in place... So they can let Sista Free know how much we value our shyt LOL... Phi Beta Sigma "blue skies, white clouds, thank you Lord" |
I didn't see Free attempt to throw up the pyramid, but I did hear keep saying the Deltas were make alot of 'noise'. She irked me everytime she said it. She just kept saying, "Ooh, that noise."
|
Hey Ladies!
I saw the show last night. The ladies who stepped for DST tore it up!!! My best friend (who is a Delta) and I were watching it last night and she couldn't stop doing your call!!!! Ya'll should have seen her face when she saw Free throw up your handsign. She dang near threw something at my tv. I'm not a Delta, and even I was like, "No....she....DIDN'T!!!!" She needs to get dropkicked. http://www.plaudersmilies.de/splat.gif Now she's old enough to know dang well NOT to do that.  I wanna see what mess is she gonna pull tonight. What, is she gonna play like she's an Omega tonight???? Later ya'll, PP |
Please forgive me for a little slow on the uptake since I don't sit around and watch BET all day or even pass my the channel with the quickness which would get me arrested in some states for speeding. I know that this is going to be slow as molasses but I have to make this point. What in the world happened to BET I remember when it was cool with Donnie Simpson, but back to the program at hand. So what happened to this so-called boycott of BET, why didn't it happen and does anyone think it was going to do any good? Now to the show lets forget for one minute that AJ is a complete jackazz and Free .... no words can describe that. (That is what the mute button is for on the remote Push when in doubt of intelligence.)
I have a question for those that want to answer this and it might be a little off the subject but please bear with me. Lets say that you are wearing your letters and someone comes up to you and asks you about your organization and you tell them a little about it. I just want to tell you that you have told more about your organization than what either person introducing the step team had time to do on 106 and Park. You might see a quizzical look on there face like, "I thought that the only thing you do is step." Now that is my problem with the image that the show put forth. Wait! ... 1 minute, lawd know we have heard enough 1 minute jokes to fill a thread from here to doomsday. Ok, now it is time to wrap this comment up ... I am glad that I kept with my boycott compared to other people that spoke about it and not going to this show with my mom, because I would be the guy in the audience screaming WTF!!! |
Question and Comments
Quote:
I am not finding a question here per say, but I gather that you want to know whether or not a person learns more about any of the D9 orgs by an informal conversation versus the 30 second speech and step show that BET has shown us this week. Definitely an informal conversation, but the person approached must always always stress to the interrogant that our organizations are alike in ideals of Sisterhood/Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Service but that we all have various ways of impacting the world at large. Each of our orgs serve a purpose but each org needs people who are committed to the ideals established by founders and other major impactors of our orgs and not just bigger and better steppers. Now my comment about tonight's show: I swear I am really loving the Ques' high impact and energy show but was there something wrong with contacts or did their clothes look dusty? |

Ok, I saw the competition this evening. The Omega's outfits did look dusty...matter of fact those were the same outfits I saw them step in a few weeks ago...and the same show. But while my bruhs did a good job, you have to give it to those Unknown Sigmas. *applause*

At the college where I pledged and graduated, all four of the sororities did the quick head snapping, hair flipping stepping (if you understand what I mean). However, while they were cute, they still stepped hard and sharp. Again, I had just never seen Deltas step like that before, so I was a little taken aback. In our coming out show, ONE of our few ways of doing the Greek Alphabet was done in an Omega type style but that was kind of a salute to them. I mean, we can have love for the bruhs. But as far as step shows where, of course, each organization is there to represent itself, I just would prefer for Deltas to represent Delta and let Omegas represent themselves. But other than the opening, I liked everything else that the Sorors did on BET :). |
but...
did we win????
|
1Babygirl2000, you mean the show at GW? i'm about to P.M. you...
|
Why did I want to jump a flight to NY?
I taped our BREATH TAKING performance on BET, and I was shocked to see Free acting up like that. I met her briefly while she was in Detroit (come to think of it, it was during our Statewide Founders Day!)She seemed very sweet, and she definately showed me love (maybe because I had on pere').In retrospect, I relize that she reconized greatness standing before her and she lost herself in the moment. But she was still wrong. By the way..we DID win right?!
|
And.. the winner is...
Thanks to your support, we've WON Round 1!!!!!!!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here were the results: The 1913 Dream Team of DST - 5,659 votes (67%) The akas - 2,776 votes (33%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So we're advancing to the FINALS.... Here are the details: * The FINALS will be taped on TUESDAY MAY 7th * The FINALS will be judged by the AUDIENCE Therefore we need the physical presence of as many people as possible!!!!!!!!!! The audience must arrive by 4:00pm..... and you MUST be on the guest list. * The show will air on WEDNESDAY MAY 8th......... |
ok, fine, we won, but i sure hope sorors come w/something better than a dedication to the men of omega for half of their performance. i'd rather see "89 years ago..." for a minute than "it's a fine time..."
the more and more i think about this step-off and it boggles my mind that the divine 9 actually decided to participate. this step-off is a joke. my last free comment. if she even looks like she wants to throw up a pyramid... will a soror please grab her by the afro and set her straight? |

SAY THAT!!!:o FYI Sigmas won last night and the Alphas won from the other night. So the showdown next week will be SIGMAS vs. ALPHAS DELTAS vs. _____________ |
Concerned Neo
Sorors,
I would like to comment on a recent observation. I viewed the discussion on other message boards (the Bruh's for instance) and I can understand having pride in your organization (personally, I haven't stop smilling since I crossed!)But why is it that so much shade is cast by other organizations because we won the first round? Another thing... does it take a nationally televised step-show to get people to be excited in their organization? I sat and thought about how many people watching at home who were MIA from their organizations, haven't paid a due since.... and the only way they'll do some community service is if it was by court order. I may be a NEO with sand still in my boots, but I just wanted to say that. |
Forgive me, CrimsonTide4
OK, Free needs an open-handed pimp slap followed by a backhanded slap. Violence is not the answer, but she needs some real deal discipline.
I did not see AJ correct her, but I assumed that he would since he claimed his mother was Delta on national television. (Didja know 106 & Park gets higher ratings than MTV's TRL? That means a lot of people saw everything.) I fell out laughing when I saw her do the pyramid on Wednesday because I didn't think she would be crazy enough to do it again. I was offended when she did it for the second time, but I know I'm ticked at hearing that she did the AKA call and had her pinky out. Somebody needs to school her. I don't care what kind of celebrity you are...respect our organizations! And there has to be one Greek that works on the staff. Get on your jobs! BTW, I missed who it was, but I feel you that this is a ratings getter. Is it just a coincidence that the step off is during the first part of May Sweeps? Hell to the naw! Lastly, congrats to Delta Sigma Theta for winning. I respectfully have to agree with the other Deltas who wanted to see something else besides Omega steps from Deltas. They were definitely krunk, energetic, and clearly audible. I've seen Deltas step like ladies, and they wreck shop, ie Sigma chapter at CAU winning mad shows this past year. |

Actually she did an OOO OOP with a pinky:mad:   but umm err yeah it is DEFINITELY not a coinky dink -- May Sweeps/Step Off. Soror Crimsinqt hit it right on the head. The BET MEssage board has 67 pages of back and forth among members of D9, non Greeks battling on several non critical issues: who steps the best, whose bond is tighter, whose orgs almost pledged another org, etc. This message board (BET) has only further divided us as a race over STEPPING.   No matter who wins or loses, all of our orgs have missions and objectives that still need to be accomplished. Let's spread the word that the OMEGAS want to register 500,000 voters by the end of 2002. Let us all be about our ORGS' business. However, I would like to add to our Educational Development thrust: EDUCATE FREE on Delta Etiquette.:o :p  |

Crimson Tide4, I totally agree with you on ALL of this greek bashing going on BET's message board. They need a moderator to clean house. That site is worse than simply greek and I didn't think anything could be as bad as that site. I have never in my 8.5 years of greekdom seen sooo much dissing as I have seen on BET's message board. I guess you could say I 've encountered a "greek culture shock". :o :D

BET Step OFF
I have been following the step off and would just like to give my opinion on the one's who I think are the best:
Iota Phi Theta-vs-Phi Beta Sigma........The Sigmas!! Alpha Phi Alpha-vs-Kappa Alpha Psi.....The Alphas!! (BTW: WTH were the Kappas doing!! At the end when they did that "mirror" thing I was just like  What was that? (<~no disrespect, I just didn't understand that part.) Delta Sigma Theta-vs-AKA.....The Deltas!!! Though I do give props to the AKA's for steeping in high heels and dresses. That was amazing but the Deltas were HYPE!! I was like "Woah!!!" :D A.J. was right....after that performance you lwomen made a lot of ladieswant to "pledge." Phi Beta Sigma-vs-Omega Psi Phi...I think it's a tie. Both were great. The Sigmas were creative (that stepping and laying on the floor was cute!) But the Ques were hype...once again I was like "Woah!!" But I believe the Ques will be chosen to come back. |
Free
By the way I did see Free hold up the Delta Sign...I was just like  ...They let her get away with that?!! I was waiting for someone to call this to her attention but it didn't happen. She did it twice yesterday. Once when she was talking on stage beside A.J. and the 2nd on the performance stage but she referred to it as "the roc." A lot of people (that I know) freely do it (because of Jay-Z) and I tell them, you really don't know what that stands for and I tell them it's "DST"s sign" and they usually tell me that "yall (DST) don't own it." I think it's disrespectful if you are not in the organization to throw it up.

I am disappointed that I haven't been able to keep up with the step-off competition. Between work and finals I have missed all of this week. I am glad that yall have been able to keep a sista informed. But I did catch a part of the show where Free did throw up the Delta. Now first of all somebody need to let Jay-Z know that he needs to stop because he's the one giving people the thought that its okay to do this. Now while I still may have sand in my shoes too, I feel offended to see anyone doing any signs or calls of my beloved organization. I also feel the same if they did it for someone else's org. I really think someone needs to school not only Free, but BET on Greek Respect.
