Re: Sisterfriends of GC-10 questions for ya!

1. Did you decide upon your organization of choice PRIOR to visiting GC?
**I decided long before I knew what an "internet" was.

2. Would you let the views or beliefs of one sway your interest to another organization?
**No. I am my own woman, therefore I must stand on my own two feet and make my own life decisions...

3. Would you let the tactics of another (member or non-member) sway your decision to become a member of an organization you really had no interest in?
**No. One conversation can not sway what seems like an eternity of preperation.

4. Do you think that you would be offended if someone came to you so that you could become a member of their organization when you have clearly decided that you want to become a member of another organization?
**No, I wouldn't be offended. The sororities of the D9 were founded with similiar beliefs and purposes. I'd be honored to think that fellow member-friend of the D9 would think that I am worthy of joining her sisterhood.

5. What does the notion that someone would try to deliberately sway your intent say about that person?
**To me it would say that she doesn't respect my decision as an adult and as a woman. In her mind, my choices obviously aren't good enough for me that she feels as if she has to make my decisions for me.

6. Would you find fault with the organization as a whole or only the person?
**I'd only find fault with that person. Here entire sorority dind't come to me posing that question...just her.

7. What does that say, if anything about the person who tries to get you to follow her into her organization when that isn't really what you want to do?
**It would say that she doesn't respect my individuality. She cares nothing about my needs or wants and that she is only concerned about what is best for her.

8. Ultimately, what kind of person would you be to succumb and follow when you know that isn't what you want to do?
**I'd be a person who needs to look deep down inside and reevaluate what it is that made me want XYZ Sorority so badly and what was it that made me stray from my dream so easily.

9. Could you look yourself in the mirror?
**No. That, I believe, I would have a hard time doing.

10. What does that say (if it says anything) about your integrity?
**Integrity...I'd have none...

1. Did you decide upon your organization of choice PRIOR to visiting GC?

Yes. It was after I decided that I began to research Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and I found this site.

2. Would you let the views or beliefs of one sway your interest to another organization?

No. I am a leader...definitely not a follower.

3. Would you let the tactics of another (member or non-member) sway your decision to become a member of an organization you really had no interest in?

No. I am a leader...definitely not a follower.

4. Do you think that you would be offended if someone came to you so that you could become a member of their organization when you have clearly decided that you want to become a member of another organization?

I would not be offended b/c the other individual would have no way of knowing that I am interested in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. However, I would have to inform her that
I am not interested in her organization.

5. What does the notion that someone would try to deliberately sway your intent say about that person?

Honestly, I would be flattered that someone saw such quality in me. I would admire her persistence, but have to more aggressively restate that I am not interested.

6. Would you find fault with the organization as a whole or only the person?

With the individual.

7. What does that say, if anything about the person who tries to get you to follow her into her organization when that isn't really what you want to do?

It says that she most likely does not understand the true meaning of membership and the lifelong commitment associated with it.

8. Ultimately, what kind of person would you be to succumb and follow when you know that isn't what you want to do?

I could never succumb to something like this. However, if someone else were to fall into that trap, I would say that she was not truthful with herself and was complacent with "just belonging" instead of making a decision and following it through.

9. Could you look yourself in the mirror?

As I stated before, I would never succumb to such a thing. But a person who makes a decision like that would most likely be able to do so. People who join orgs on whim or b/c they were pressured by friends, are followers who just want to belong. So, ultimately, when they look in the mirror they are probably satisfied with what they see.

10. What does that say (if it says anything) about your integrity?

I don't think my integrity is at question here . However, the lady who joined should look deeper when she is in front of that mirror to determine what she sees in her own reflection.

Lady2000 07-10-2003 09:47 PM

1. Did you decide upon your organization of choice PRIOR to visiting GC? No, when I first visited GC I was unfocused and unable to make a decision at that time.

2. Would you let the views or beliefs of one sway your interest to another organization? No, in order to be true to myself I must always follow God and my heart.

3. Would you let the tactics of another (member or non-member) sway your decision to become a member of an organization you really had no interest in? Not at all, I would never let another sway my focus.

4. Do you think that you would be offended if someone came to you so that you could become a member of their organization when you have clearly decided that you want to become a member of another organization? Not at all, because I feel as though if someone is coming to me it's because they feel I would be an asset to their organization and I feel as though that's a compliment to me. I would definately not take offense especially when I already know where my heart lies.

5. What does the notion that someone would try to deliberately sway your intent say about that person? That they have very negative energy and I should not be around them period!

6. Would you find fault with the organization as a whole or only the person? Only the person because no organization is perfect, there may be a few rotten apples in the bunch. Anyway I believe that in joining an organization, you join because the goals of the organization are in tune with your personal goals and not because of the goals of one particular person.

7. What does that say, if anything about the person who tries to get you to follow her into her organization when that isn't really what you want to do? It doesn't say anything about the other person, she is just trying to spread the joy and love she has for her organization.

8. Ultimately, what kind of person would you be to succumb and follow when you know that isn't what you want to do? It says that you are weak and easily influenced.

9. Could you look yourself in the mirror? Me personally, I could because I wouldn't join something my whole heart is not into.

10. What does that say (if it says anything) about your integrity? If I caved in to what the other person wants, then by definition, I have no integrity. If I follow my own heart then my integrity is still intact.

curiousasp 07-10-2003 11:16 PM

1. Did you decide upon your organization of choice PRIOR to visiting GC? I decided way before I started perusing GC. I came here to just observe how the more Internet-savvy Greeks interact. I've learned some things, but I don't take any and everything I read here as absolute truth.

2. Would you let the views or beliefs of one sway your interest to another organization?Nope

3. Would you let the tactics of another (member or non-member) sway your decision to become a member of an organization you really had no interest in? Nope

4. Do you think that you would be offended if someone came to you so that you could become a member of their organization when you have clearly decided that you want to become a member of another organization? I wouldn't be offended, but I would politely tell them no.

5. What does the notion that someone would try to deliberately sway your intent say about that person? Well, it depends on the person...However, I would kindly tell that person to mind their business. Also, it would make her look desperate in my eyes. BGLOs should not beg for members.

6. Would you find fault with the organization as a whole or only the person? The person

7. What does that say, if anything about the person who tries to get you to follow her into her organization when that isn't really what you want to do? Um, personally if someone was trying to recruit me into XYZ when I've shown no interest whatsoever (and they're not a family member), then I would question them. Like I said, they look desperate.

8. Ultimately, what kind of person would you be to succumb and follow when you know that isn't what you want to do? You're weak if you do that.

9. Could you look yourself in the mirror? If I succumbed, I would be unhappy and unable to look into the mirror..

10. What does that say (if it says anything) about your integrity? It says I lack integrity.

Did you decide upon your organization of choice PRIOR to visiting GC?

-Yes, I decided upon the organization of my choice during the end of my freshman year.-

2. Would you let the views or beliefs of one sway your interest to another organization?

-There is NO WAY in HAITI that anyone could come between me swaying another way than the interest of the org. of my choice. Not even my parents who are ZPBS could do it. They offered to pay my dues, give me a car and anything else I needed. I said "I dont care what you can give me". My father was upset and disappointed for awhile, which he let me know, BUT HE WILL AND MUST GET OVER IT!-

3. Would you let the tactics of another (member or non-member) sway your decision to become a member of an organization you really had no interest in?

-PLAIN AND SIMPLE, no.-

4. Do you think that you would be offended if someone came to you so that you could become a member of their organization when you have clearly decided that you want to become a member of another organization?

-No, i wouldnt be offended. I would be more flattered that they saw something great in me and had the courage to come to me knowing those are the attributes that I wish to give to the org. of my choice.-

5. What does the notion that someone would try to deliberately sway your intent say about that person?

-I would say that they are very determined, deceitful and unashamed.-

6. Would you find fault with the organization as a whole or only the person?

-I wouldnt find fault with the org. nor the person. Why would I blame them for seeing me and my above average qualities? Then, being honest enough to approach me?-

7. What does that say, if anything about the person who tries to get you to follow her into her organization when that isn't really what you want to do?

-Well, if they really knew how my mind is set for the org. and they did it anyway, I would say maybe they THOUGHT their org. was really THE ONLY WAY TO GO and they are just trying to help me, or, they have no respect for my wishes and feel that they are the "high and mighty ones" basically saying that they dont respect me.-

8. Ultimately, what kind of person would you be to succumb and follow when you know that isn't what you want to do?

-Ultimately, that would say that I am not true to myself and I am not trustworthy, that I am easily influenced and will fall for anything and maybe a bit naiive believing that just because they asked me guarentees a spot in their intake process.-

9. Could you look yourself in the mirror?

-Honestly no. I could not live with the feeling of being a "sell-out" I would feel ashamed that I went against everything I felt in my heart- threw it away for something easier. I wouldnt cherish my letters as much.-

10. What does that say (if it says anything) about your integrity?

-Point blank, it says that I have none.-

1savvydiva 07-11-2003 02:41 AM

Where was I when this thread resurfaced?

1. Did you decide upon your organization of choice PRIOR to visiting GC?

I decided on my organization of choice PRIOR to JOHN visiting GC, LOL!

2. Would you let the views or beliefs of one sway your interest to another organization?

That would be a resounding No

3. Would you let the tactics of another (member or non-member) sway your decision to become a member of an organization you really had no interest in?

No.

4. Do you think that you would be offended if someone came to you so that you could become a member of their organization when you have clearly decided that you want to become a member of another organization?

Of course not, actually I would consider it a compliment that they thought so highly of me to want me to pursue their organization, I would not be offended.

5. What does the notion that someone would try to deliberately sway your intent say about that person?

As above, I would say that they thought highly of me, and consider it a complement. I would also think that that person must have good taste and be a good judge of character! ;)

6. Would you find fault with the organization as a whole or only the person?

I don't think that I would find fault with that person or the entire org. If for some reason that person didn't respect my choice, then I may be offended...but it would still be on the individual level

7. What does that say, if anything about the person who tries to get you to follow her into her organization when that isn't really what you want to do?

I would say that if I have expressed my intentions/desires and this person is still trying to influence me otherwise, that it would say that they aren't respecting me. If they took it too far to the extreme, I would question their love for their own organization. Why would you want someone in your org that didn't show the same passion/zest for it as you?

8. Ultimately, what kind of person would you be to succumb and follow when you know that isn't what you want to do?

One word. Weak

9. Could you look yourself in the mirror?

I would never be in this situation to ever have to wonder whether I could or not

10. What does that say (if it says anything) about your integrity?
If I have made up my mind on something, that means it's in my heart, and I would not be swayed by anything or anyone!

Dutchessrae 07-11-2003 01:17 PM

1. Did you decide upon your organization of choice PRIOR to visiting GC?

Prior to.

2. Would you let the views or beliefs of one sway your interest to another organization?

No, i would listen and keep an open mind, but not sway.

3. Would you let the tactics of another (member or non-member) sway your decision to become a member of an organization you really had no interest in?

no.

4. Do you think that you would be offended if someone came to you so that you could become a member of their organization when you have clearly decided that you want to become a member of another organization?

no, it would just seem as though they saw worthy attributes in me, especially if they wanted me to join their organization. i might be flattered.

5. What does the notion that someone would try to deliberately sway your intent say about that person?

it seems as though they may only be trying to play devil's addvocate and test the sincerity of my interest or they may really want me as a part of their organization.

6. Would you find fault with the organization as a whole or only the person?

the person is not the entire organization, so i would definitely not find fault with the organization. i also see no fault with person, i am not a member of any organization, so i see no reason to fault the person.

7. What does that say, if anything about the person who tries to get you to follow her into her organization when that isn't really what you want to do?

it only really says that they think i would bring something to their organization or that my goals and ideals would mesh well with their organization.

8. Ultimately, what kind of person would you be to succumb and follow when you know that isn't what you want to do?

indecisive. when you attempt to pursue an organization, you should definitely know that it is the one for you. if you succumb to the persuasion of another and follow them into their organization then you lack the decisiveness necessary to know what you really want.

9. Could you look yourself in the mirror?

if that was the decison that i made, i would have no other choice than to look at myself in the mirror.

10. What does that say (if it says anything) about your integrity?

it would say that i was lacking in that area. if you do not stick to your beliefs and goals, in the face of others trying to change them, then you lack integrity. only if the decision was yours alone, swayed by no one, would your intergrity not be lacking.

DetroitBAP 07-14-2003 01:21 AM

1. Did you decide upon your organization of choice PRIOR to visiting GC?

Yes, I made up my mind when I was in the 8th grade.

2. Would you let the views or beliefs of one sway your interest to another organization?

No, especially since it's an organization that I want to persue. And believe me, people have tried to sway me.

3. Would you let the tactics of another (member or non-member) sway your decision to become a member of an organization you really had no interest in?

Not at all, that shows weakness, and it's also unfair to you and the other organization. How can you work for an organization that you aren't interested in? There would be no passion there.

4. Do you think that you would be offended if someone came to you so that you could become a member of their organization when you have clearly decided that you want to become a member of another organization?

Yes.

5. What does the notion that someone would try to deliberately sway your intent say about that person?

That they see something that might be a good asset to their organization.

6. Would you find fault with the organization as a whole or only the person?

Just the person.

7. What does that say, if anything about the person who tries to get you to follow her into her organization when that isn't really what you want to do?

That she doesn't really respect the organization that I have an interest in.

8. Ultimately, what kind of person would you be to succumb and follow when you know that isn't what you want to do?

A person that is untrue to myself.

9. Could you look yourself in the mirror?

No.

10. What does that say (if it says anything) about your integrity?

That it is lacking.

ProseChild02 07-15-2003 09:02 PM

1. Did you decide upon your organization of choice PRIOR to visiting GC?
YES.

2. Would you let the views or beliefs of one sway your interest to another organization?
No. I think once you have made an intelligent decision on which organization to pursue, no one can sway you. You have to be leaning or wavering before someone can sway you.

3. Would you let the tactics of another (member or non-member) sway your decision to become a member of an organization you really had no interest in?
No. If I wasn't interested before, I don't see how someone's efforts or testimony could cause me to be interested. For me, it was observing members in different locations and of different ages, then doing my own research. One person couldn't have made or broken my perception.

4. Do you think that you would be offended if someone came to you so that you could become a member of their organization when you have clearly decided that you want to become a member of another organization?
I wouldn't be offended. I'm assuming that I know the person, b/c I don't see someone I don't know coming up to me about that. I would feel flattered, but of course they didn't know of my interest in a different organization.

5. What does the notion that someone would try to deliberately sway your intent say about that person?
It says that that person doesn't have my desires at heart. They're selfish, only thinking about their intentions.

6. Would you find fault with the organization as a whole or only the person?
Only the person. The entire body of an organization can't be at fault for the deeds of one individual.

7. What does that say, if anything about the person who tries to get you to follow her into her organization when that isn't really what you want to do?
Same as #5.

8. Ultimately, what kind of person would you be to succumb and follow when you know that isn't what you want to do?
I would be a very weak person. I would be a person that lacked a backbone - if I didn't have the resolve to stand up for myself and prevent the situation from happening.

9. Could you look yourself in the mirror?
No.

10. What does that say (if it says anything) about your integrity?
If I followed the 'leader', it would say that I wasn't being truthfull to the person or myself.

journiemajor 07-16-2003 12:55 AM

Hi i'm new here and saw a question that pertained to me.

1. Did you decide upon your organization of choice PRIOR to visiting GC?

Yes, I have been interested in this particular organization for over a year.

2. Would you let the views or beliefs of one sway your interest to another organization?

No, but I can say that I wasn't originally interested in the organization of my choice, but the only reason I wanted to be in the other organization is b/c any female that is greek in my family was apart of that organization, it was never really in my heart and I didn't know much about that sorority at all.

3. Would you let the tactics of another (member or non-member) sway your decision to become a member of an organization you really had no interest in?

No b/c that member or non-member if they became a member won't be the only person I'd interact with in the organization, and so I'd have to look at what they're doing locally and nationally to help out their communities.

4. Do you think that you would be offended if someone came to you so that you could become a member of their organization when you have clearly decided that you want to become a member of another organization?

I wouldn't be offended b/c they most likely wouldn't know about my preference. There are people I know that are part of other orgs that ask me why I want to be in the org of my choice and talk about them sometimes and talk about the good things about their org and their brothers, but it doesn't offend me and they are supportive of my decision.

5. What does the notion that someone would try to deliberately sway your intent say about that person?

It tells me that they are not understanding or respectful of my choice and that they must be desperate if they're trying to recruit people that aren't interested in their org.

6. Would you find fault with the organization as a whole or only the person?

Just the person

7. What does that say, if anything about the person who tries to get you to follow her into her organization when that isn't really what you want to do?

Just that that person is not respectful and doing their org a disservice.

8. Ultimately, what kind of person would you be to succumb and follow when you know that isn't what you want to do?

I'd b extremely weak. I am a very submissive person, but that would be where i'd draw the line. I've succumbed to peer pressure in the past but putting time, money, going through possibly emotional stress and a lifetime commitment into something I never wanted to do in the first place is just crazy
and out of line.

9. Could you look yourself in the mirror?
Nope.

10. What does that say (if it says anything) about your integrity?
It would seem that I lacked integrity and that I'm really not going to make much of an impact on the org or anyone I deal with in life if i'm just always going along with whatever someone wants me to do.

all_dat_jazz99 07-17-2003 09:09 PM

1. Did you decide upon your organization of choice PRIOR to visiting GC?

YES, HAVE WANTED TO A MEMBER OF ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA FOR AS LONG AS I KNEW ABOUT SORORITIES.

2. Would you let the views or beliefs of one sway your interest to another organization?

NO, IF THAT WERE THE CASE I'D ALREADY BE IN ANOTHER SORORITY.

3. Would you let the tactics of another (member or non-member) sway your decision to become a member of an organization you really had no interest in?

NO, I KNOW WHERE MY HEAD AND MY HEART WANT TO BE.

4. Do you think that you would be offended if someone came to you so that you could become a member of their organization when you have clearly decided that you want to become a member of another organization?

NO, NOT OFFENDED.IT WOULD BE NICE TO KNOW THEY THOUGHT HIGHLY ENOUGH OF MY TO WANT ME IN THEIR ORG. I WOULD JUST POLITELY DECLINE IN A DISCRETE MANNER.

5. What does the notion that someone would try to deliberately sway your intent say about that person?

NOT SURE, MAYBE THEY REALLY SEE ME AS A MEMBER OF THEIR ORG. THAT'S THEIR PERCEPTION...

6. Would you find fault with the organization as a whole or only the person?

NO EACH PERSON IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEMSELVES, BUT THE SHOULD REMEMBER THAT THEY REFLECT THEIR ORGANIZATION.

7. What does that say, if anything about the person who tries to get you to follow her into her organization when that isn't really what you want to do?

IT SHOWS THAT THEY CARE ABOUT THEIR ORG, BUT NOT ABOUT YOUR FEELINGS OR DECISIONS.

8. Ultimately, what kind of person would you be to succumb and follow when you know that isn't what you want to do?

WEAK, NEXT QUESTION...

9. Could you look yourself in the mirror?

ABSOLUTELY NOT

10. What does that say (if it says anything) about your integrity?
siting GC?[/B]

THAT YOU ARE WEAK AND EASILY SWAYED. SO NOT MUCH...

GOOD QUESTIONS!
