I can't see anyone calling a Sorority a "Sor" either, I guess that's because it's a word that isn't popular and something that you just made up http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif However, if is was a popular word such as "Frat" then I guess I could see that. |

I have heard and used both the words soro and soror. So its not just a NPHC thing http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif. Truthfully i think what words you use depends on your campus and sometimes your house. And really words like frat and soro, etc. are just slang words and easier to say sometimes. Like someone said, im lazy too. and saying im going to a frat party is just more easier and more common then saying im going to a fraternity party. I mean if you're going to a party, do you say Im going to FIJI, or Im going to Phi Gamma Delta.

I agree that the term "Frat" can be offensive when used in the wrong context, such as people who just think of Fraternities as free party spots. After being in a sorority for a year and seeing how much there is to Greek Life and everything that both Sororities and Fraternities have to do, fraternity is definately a better word to capture the real ideals of a fraternity.

I agree that "frat" can be an offensive term. Before I became familiar with Greek Life and the activities and duties each Chapter has, "frats" just seemed like the place to go where cool parties were. Animal House and wild parties come to mind with the word frat, as opposed to fraternity which encompases everything from brotherhood, to philanthropic activies, to everything else that is included in Fraternity life.
