I have Verizon

I have had Verizon for about five years and love their service. I would not change them for the world. I never have problems with customers service and they have pretty nice phones. I have my nights and weekend minutes free and can go to a local verzion dealer and drop off my payments.

A lot of my chapters sorors I know have sprint and from what I have gathered that their service is not good. They are always cutting getting their phones cut off and then they get charged for turning back on, then they have to pay two months inadvance etc. I cannot have that. I have sometimes forgotten to mail my payment and verizon has never ever ever cut off my phone off, not one time. I know a few people who have asked me why I don't changed to sprint for those sprint to sprint minutes, but trust me it is not worth it. Plus verizon has the same plan.

My mom also has verizon and has carried big balances and they have never cut off her phone.

Soror UpPinkies, my husband, who has Sprint, has suggested that I go with Verizon if I decide to change plans. . . I'm really thinking about it. I thought that they have about the same service as Sprint. Customer service really means a lot, which is why I'm still with Cingular. I called them a few months ago to ask them to waive a reconnect fee of $36.00 (forgot to make the payment or call them to ask for an extension) and they waived it! There was another fee of $18 that I was charged for switching plans (and they waived that fee as well) and my bill that month went from $99 to $36! Now that's what I call customer service!

I have Nextel. I like it because I can talk to my parents and brother who also have Nextel thru direct connect without using up minutes I can use on friends and my grandparents. My family likes to call almost everyday, and talk about everything under the sun. So I think its the best plan for me out there. :D

It's funny how old post have their way of coming back around...

Anyway, since ranting and raving about how much I HATE SPRINT I've hooked up with Cingular and I'm loving every minute of it. I've been with them for a little over a year now and haven't had any problems. Free nationwide long distance and a whole lot of roll over minutes. Because my cell phone is my primary phone I had to go with one of the larger plans that have 1200 anytime minutes and 8000 night and weekend minutes. The good thing about that plan is definately the rollover minutes. Now I have about 2400 anytime minutes that have accumulated over the past few months. The bad thing is that my monthly bill after tax is added is $115.00 provided I don't download a new game or a new ringtone. It's a bit more costly than I will like, but I no longer have to worry about going over my minutes. Plus I absolutely love my phone. It's a Nokia 3595 with the polyphonic ringtones and all the neat graphics and games and the color screen.

I hear Verison is the best and that AT&T is pretty good too. I have Cingular and I am ok with the service...except I tent to have lost calls while in my house:rolleyes:. And like someone stated in a previous post about another provider. Cingular has a stupid clipboard, 2 associates, and 700 customers. In most of the stores here we have payment center machine. Is verison really good?

feu_declipse 11-10-2003 12:55 AM

Personally, I can't stand Cingular. They have pretty good service in Atlanta but their customer service sucked. I had a problem with my phone and wanted to upgrade. I called about 3 times, went to the stores twiceand got 5 different responses as well as 5 different acount reports. So I decided to cancel my contract - why was that another problem.

Issues ranging from but not limited to:
- I called customer service they said go to a store
- We can give you another phone but the phone you want is not in stock, so go to ...
- I went to wherever it was, the lady was new and did not know what she was doing.
- went to a different store, the information she gave me did not correlate with anything I had heard form anyone else.

It was as if they did not have the information stored centrally.

SO, I walked next door and signed up with Verizon. They've been great. I had wonderful service, notice I said had. Now, everytime I get to the door of my apartment, I'm suddenly on the "Extended Network" Apart from that, I like Verizon. All my friends need to get on Verizon so I can use more than 50 of my 1000 mobile to mobile minutes. :D

I'm switching to Cingular through Bell South on the 24th. Hopefully, I won't have the problems with CS, because I'll call Bell South and they will forward me to Cingular. I like the fact the Cingular will allow me to keep my same phone number that I had with AT&T. My bill will also appear on my Bell South bill. :D

Soror, that's something that is across the board now - the FCC (or somebody) is now allowing anyone to switch cell phone service and keep their same numbers.

I hope you're as happy with Cingular as I have been. Actually spoke with a representative this morning, and she was extremely nice; thanked me for being a customer since 2000, asked me if I had problems with the service, etc. Also where I live, Bellsouth was the carrier until they changed to Cingular (probably a little over a year ago), but it is handy to have your cell phone service added on to your Bellsouth bill. The only reason why I opted not to do that is because our home phone is in my husband's name and my cell phone is in my name and I actually wanted to keep another bill in my name only for credit longevity (if that makes any sense).

Another Cingular user!

I've had Cingular since they took over from Cellular One. On a scale of 1-10, I give them an 8. They have recently upgraded the styles of phones that they carry which is a definite plus. I have free nights and weekends, free long-distance, and no roaming anywhere!! For only $52 a month. The #1 problem that I have with them is that when I am outside of my calling area, missed calls and voice mails won't show up until hours later. When I go visit my family in NY, I won't get most of my messages until I'm on the NJ turnpike going back south. And their customer service up there is provided through another wireless serivce (ie. Sprint, or TMobile).

My fiance has T-Moblie and it totally sucks!! He has had to send back his phone for a new one and he still has issues using his call waiting, and other basic features like that. He looses a signal just by thinking about it, and the customer service isn't that great.

I just think you may just have some tag or something on your phone number that when YOU call them, they give you above-excellent service...you have had some really great experiences, LOL! :D

Oh...just really wanted to say...nothing has changed, I still HATE SPRINT! The only reason I have stuck with them is because the network is so far-reaching. I don't think I have ever had a dropped call (due to MY service) as much as I am up and down I-95.

Diva_01 11-10-2003 01:59 PM

I am an AT&T User!

I love it so far! I love talking on the elevator...I couldn't do that with sprint, and I love all my discounts. Since I work for the county, I get 15-25 percent off every phone bill, and 25% of accesories for a whole year.

I was with T-mobile before. LOVED it, hated their phones' styles. Their phones were ugly. I hear AT&T owns T-Mobile...

Sprint...can kiss my butt. I Hated sprint because you can't talk in the house, you can't talk under trees, you can't talk in the elevator, you can't talk in tunnels...go to an open field, and you can talk on a sprint phone.

By the way, my AT&T phone was only 30.00, regurlarly 200.00...

AKA2D '91 11-10-2003 03:06 PM

AT&T costs too dayum much. I have the NATIONWIDE plan, but WHY IN THE HECK DO I ROAM when I travel in SOME areas? Puhleeze!

I can't wait until 11/24...NO ROAMING, PLUS ROLLOVER MINUTES AND A CHEAPER BILL! :D :p

kiml122 11-10-2003 03:07 PM

I have had Cingular since they took over for Cellular One, and they took over from Comcast, so yeah I have had them a long time. I always wanted to get rid of them because of their customer service B.S. that they put you through, but I didn't want to change numbers, but now that I have the ability to keep my number, Cingular has actually been ok for the last 2 years....so I am going to stick with them for a minute, plus they along with Verizon and At&T will be offering some free stuff for you to stay with them.:)

I am now with T-Mobile. I had to let my beloved AT & T go due to a vey bad decision (KimL...remember that mess???).

So far, so good. No complaints here! I actually get better coverage in areas where AT&T hardly existed. I can even talk in my house now. That's a wonderful thing.

I still recommend AT&T though. They have a decent track record. Now I'm waiting to see what T-Mobile's new name will eventually be within a couple of years...lol

T-Mobile user and employee

I have been a T-mobile user since they were Powertel and an employee since they were Voicestream. So far...So good on both ends.
(Putting on my good employee hat) T- Mobile USA is a company solely owned by a German company called Deutsch Telekom. They are a big cellular and data service provider in Europe. There have never been any interests in merging with AT&T. We were considering a merger with Cingular but decided against it since we were doing so good. We are a great company for business who use wireless data services.
( taking my hat off...) If you live between South Carolina and Maryland... your service wont be the best. We never really had any towers there so we are just now trying to service that area. Other than that it really shouldn't be any problems... we have dead spots like everyone else. I think my biggest issue has been with service inside of house and buildings... but that is alot of cellular companies. As far as the phones themselves....as any CSR will tell you...that one is on the Manufactures...we have to fight with them all the time for them to get their phone straight. But I honestly think we have the best rate plan in the business (definitely said without my employee hat on...)
All in all T-mobile isn't that bad for a start up company...we are fairly new and haven't been around as some of the others.
I have heard a lot of horror stories with Sprint though..

Cell phones are a sore subject for me right now.

Mr. Prayerfull and I use Cingular and have a combined plan for both of our phones. The bill has been coming in for the last 2 months at around $275.00  each month.

We've got 600 anytime minutes (shared), 5000 nights and weekends (+ the extra to start those at 7pm rather than 9pm), unlimited mobile to mobile, and my NEW FAVORITE.....wireless internet service (thank God Greekchat doesn't have a wireless format, 'cause I'd be even further in the hole).

We need a flat rate plan that includes EVERYTHING - UNLIMITED. This last bill was sky high and I'm trying to figure out what the heck we need to do about this. I wish their customer service people could give me a clue as to which plan may better suit me.

I have Nextel at the moment, and will be switching to Cingular as soon as my plan is up. Anyway to show the true GC addict that I am :o I tried to get on GC through my wireless web. All I saw was the first line at the top. :(

Possibly, you mean in NC and SC. I have T-Mo in VA and have had great coverage in the South Eastern part of the state, where I reside. I have also had a strong signal in Richmond and the DelMarVa area. But, I roam on Cingular as soon as I cross the NC border.

*****
If possible, could you explain the new "Rich Communications" thing? I have unlimited T-Zones WAP w/ 300 SMS a month for $9.99. I hear that might change w/ the new free WAP browsing.

I currently connect to the Wireless NET thru my Tungsten T|3 using my Nokia 3650. If I moved to the new $4.99 plan, will they close my port access?

*****
All GSM services are poorer is bldgs b/c they use the 1900/900/1800 band. the 850 band (that T-Mo USA does not use) is best for bldgs.

nikki1920 11-13-2003 12:13 PM

I've had AT&T for a year and had no complaints. Great customer service, great phones, great plans. I used Sprint while I was dating my ex, and had a great phone, but crappy customer service (I shouldn't wait more than 7 minutes to talk to someone). He used to call at 1 and 2 in the am just to talk to a person. uh, NO. lol. And they did cut the phone of if you were .0000001 seconds late with your payment.

evaclear04 11-13-2003 04:11 PM

Rich Communications:
Basically what is happening is that you will have instead of a certain bucket of Megabytes you will have an unlimited amount. If it is more for customer who are only paying $2.99 for WAP access. That’s really the only change. So in your case you would go from paying $9.99 to $4.99.
As far as you losing your port access... there is a possibility that it could happen but I doubt it.
You are correct about the GSM service...but the great thing with it is the service you can receive in foreign countries...GSM is almost a standard for some.

BLUTANG 11-14-2003 01:03 PM

Prayerfull, it sounds to me like you need Sprint. I have had them since 99 and the only problem i've experienced was with an actual phone, not the service / network or customer service. I hear so many complaints about Sprint but i haven't experienced any drama personally so i say give them a try if you like.

I bought my mom a cell phone not to long ago and added her on my plan. We share 500 "daytime minutes", and each get unlimited nights and weekends, unlimited Sprint to Sprint (*It works really great since most of the people i know also have Sprint*), and Sprint vision / wireless web. This runs about 70 something a month, including tax. I really love the nationwide network because I travel a lot so i can usually pick up a signal without roaming. (EXCEPT NEAR 'SKEGEE - DAMMIT). The only exceptions are my office, which is on the basement level of a library, and inside Metro stations. I can't pick up ANYTHING, but in my home and basically everywhere else it's good.

The only thing i could wish for is my night minutes to start at 7PM like the commercials are advertising. That will incur an additional cost for existing customers, so i'm straight with 9:00 nights for the time being. When my contract runs out i WILL look for a new carrier (yeaaa FCC Portability), but only if i can find a plan that offers more than what i'm getting now.

My husband and I both have Verizon Wireless phones. He has an 800 minute plan and I have a 400 minute. We each get 1000 mobile to mobile, unlimited nights and weekends and I have mobile/express web. Our combined bill is about $100/month. Of course, you pay 35/45 cents per minute over your allowance!
