Most embrassing people 2004

Thanks to the 2.20.04 edition of The Boondocks: the cast of Making the Band II |
Shows you how behind I am...I didn't know the mail-sender-himself-home'er was black. I never bothered to look at a picture. LMAO
|
By far to me the most embarrassing has got to be:
The "Snipers" - Lee Malvo and whatever the older man's name was. |
Quote:
Boobie and Whitless Michael Jackson ( is he still considered black tho?) R Kelly |
We forgot about James "Treasure Troll" Brown*
*"Treasure Troll" comes from the 2.21.04 edition of The Boondocks. |
TTT/New nomination
Rodney King. That man should have taken his settlement and left the country, IMO.
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor..._rodney_king_2 He's heading to jail. |
Who to choose? Who to choose?
My top vote goes to the cast of Making the Band II... I see this year we as a community had a lot of our peeps embarass us...:o |

I don't know if I have to wait until 2005 to nominate her but I'd like to add OMAROSSA to the list.

WOW!!! I was blown away at some of this but eagerly look forward to Uncle Ruckus. I really wish he would bring back Cindy and Jasmine and Tom DuBois. |
RE: Uncle Ruckus - I'm looking forward to that too. It reminds me of that bit Chris Rock does about old black men being some of the most racist people on the planet, but meanwhile they're all up in white folks' faces smiling, grinning, shucking and jiving. I wonder if that's where McGruder got the idea.
It was kind of sad to see that he's sort of "phoning in" the daily strip though, and like you, I wish he would bring Jasmine back.. but how many times can he beat the "biracial people are confused" idea into the ground before it becomes tired? |

I understand what you mean about Jasmine but she and Cindy were great comedic foils to Huey's seriousness. I still LMAO @ the card that Cindy gave Huey back in 2001. Oh and when she was on her Free Puffy crusade. LMAO |
These comments from the article were funny:
“At a certain point, I just got the uncomfortable feeling that this was a bunch of people who were feeling a little too good about themselves,” McGruder said afterward. “These are the big, rich white leftists who are going to carry the fight to George Bush, and the best they can do is blame Nader?” “I don’t go to the cartoonist conventions,” McGruder said. “I went once, to the Reuben Awards”—the Oscars of cartooning—“and I didn’t feel very welcome. I felt a palpable sense of resentment. Bil Keane was the m.c., and he opened doing more than one joke that was clearly aimed at me. It was raw—just some f'd-up s#!&. O.K., and yet, if I get out of my chair right now and beat the s#%$ out of you, then I’m the bad guy? You’re sitting here, clearly dogging me—not by name, but how many black cartoonists are working? He told some joke about diversity in comics. Like ‘There’s a lot of diversity in comics these days. They don’t have to be funny, they just have to be diverse.’ There were a couple of shots at me where I was like, ‘Motherf@#%#r, you don’t know me. We’re not cool.’” |

There haven't been any strong female presences in the strip since he dropped Cindy and Jasmine to recurring status. I'm hoping that someday he'll feel inspired enough to come up with some fresh material for the both of them and bring them back. Oh, and after reading that article, I just have one thing to say: Condoleeza Rice is a brave you-know-what to ask McGruder to work her into his strip. :D |

There is no female presence in the strip now that Cindy, Jasmine, and Jasmine's mom are gone. |

“Somebody has to sort of translate the drums for white folks, and occasionally they call me to try to do it,” McGruder explained. |

Commentary
For those who don't know, I am a full time writer and editor. I regularly get this e-bulletin from MediaBistro.com. I thought I would post this up. The LA times recently did a commentary on the Boondocks. Enjoy!
ANGRY YOUNG MAN Aaron McGruder's in-your-face cartoon strip, The Boondocks, takes no prisoners, black or white. How did this nice young man from the suburbs get so mad? LA Times |
GREAT NEWS
Tonight I was reading the Time Warner monthly cable guide and lo and behold . . . .
October 2 Cartoon Network 11:00pm starring John Witherspoon, Regina King and Cedric Yarbrough :D THE BOOOOOOOOOOOONDOCKS!!!!!! **dancing** |
^^^
I have my VCR on standby. :D |
Yay!!!! Something to get me watching CN again (besides Scooby)!! I miss my Powerpuff Girls and Cow and Chicken. :(
I wish we had the Boondocks here. It's not going to happen in Bush-loving SC. I think the nearest paper that has it is The Charlotte Observer. Well, at least we have Curtis and Jump Start.:) |
Quote:
It's not in Charlotte. I read it online courtesy of "My Yahoo" every day. |
