You don't know how excited I am that I finally have an APO Brother to root for this time around. :D
Bumping to ask if anyone has heard who won Tuesday Night's Preliminary Competitions...
ETA: Tonight (Tuesday) South Carolina won Lifestyle and Fitness Preliminary; Iowa won Talent Preliminary. ETA: Wednesday Night, Florida (a member of Kappa Delta) won Lifestyle and Fitness Preliminary; Louisiana (a member of Alpha Phi) won Talent Preliminary. ETA: Thursday Night, Iowa won Lifestyle and Fitness; Georgia won Talent. There are no more preliminary competitions, and Iowa is the only contestant this year to win both preliminaries. There have previously been non-crowned double preliminary winners, including 1992's Miss Iowa (she became first runner-up) so have no fear, your favorite NPC Greek Miss America 2016 contestant may yet win! |

Since their states usually do well in this pageant, I guess this year's top two will be Miss Oklahoma and Miss New York.
But upon finally locating and viewing each contestant's one minute youtube video, I like Miss Delaware...she's quite a sweetheart, speaks clearly, and her state has never won Miss America. |
I'm betting it all on Miss Florida - a Kappa Delta from my chapter!!

14 crowned Miss America 14 were in the top 5, but not MA 2 were in the top 10/15, but not top 5 The final night has a new panel of judges, so they could fall in love with a different girl! |
Despite the fact she's not Greek, my money is on Miss SC, Daja Dial. #dollarsondial

Did you see the video of Miss Colorado's talent? She came out in purple scrubs and gave a moving monologue about why she is an RN. Unique, and she's lovely.
I got a kick out of Miss Virginia being named Savannah. Cheap thrills, I guess.
Vanessa Williams got a great reception, and she can still sing and looks terrific.....not sure what she is wearing tho...
Some of those state introductions were cringe-inducingly hilarious! I wonder how much control the women got over what they got to say.
Miss West Virginia made Top 15!!! Go Brother Chelsea!!
Clemson girl, I agree!!! Your girl got in!
WOW! Talk about KD heavy!!
Two Kappa Deltas!
EditedTo say: THREE KDs!! |
9/15 is not bad for Greeks! And Miss South Carolina from Clemson:)
Miss Arkansas (KD) made it. Other faves are Oklahoma, South Carolina and Colorado.
As an aside, Regina Hopper who is on the Miss America executive board was Miss Arkansas 1983 and a U of A ZTA.
WOW! All three KDs in the pageant are in the top 15! Chi Omega had three going in with one still standing.
8/12 Greeks and Daja! I'm so excited!
Daja?
Nevermind - figured it out!

I'm on the Daja train too. She's stunning. I'm also wanting GA, CO, LA and FL up there to the end as well. |
Not a fan of most of these dresses, honestly-guess they're not my kind of evening dress. The flowy mermaid dress look is not for me.
They all looked alike!
Something looked weird about all of their arms during evening gown. I can't put my finger on it but maybe it was that they just had then straight down and didn't move them as they walked? Just looked stiff.
Three of them wore the same dress in different colors!! I wasn't crazy about any of the gowns. I loved the skirt of Miss Oklahoma's gown but not the top.

I LOVED the way Daja looked in Evening Gown. She is just stunning. Also Oklahoma. She looks like she has a very sparkling personality.

I really, really hate how the contestants don't know if they're performing in talent or not until their name is called, and then they have to do it right away. This seems especially cruel to the singers - give them time to do vocal warmups, at least!
Miss Louisana goes to Oklahoma City University... Opera or vocal major I will bet you! That is a trained voice.
My ears are bleeding after Miss Oklahoma. Awful singing. Miss Louisiana on the other hand, was amazing.
AOII Miss Tennessee is through to the top 10! The Greeks are on fire. |
I guess the commercial break went too long, because I don't know who is performing!
Edit: Miss Tennessee? I didn't see them air the introduction! |
The dresses all looked alike because they were all designed by Sherri Hill (for some reason I saw something else but ah well) this year. He consulted with each contestant about their gown to fit their personalities. I also saw a quote by Mallory Hytes Hagan, Miss America 2013, that mentioned it was meant to be beneficial to the contestants because the evening gown dress is such a big part of the girls' pageant expenses—she said hers was $400 and that it was an exception because most of them are $2,000 or so.
I also hate to say this…but I would have liked for Miss Oklahoma to have picked a different talent, something other than singing. Though, she could have been having a case of nerves—it just seemed like she was off pitch in some spots. Miss Tennessee's talent dress is to die for. |
