1) Acacia - Nashville - July 28-Aug 3
2) I will be there, first one
3) No
4) Breakout sessions on mentoring
5) Have you ever attend another group's convention?
Yes, Sig Ep in 2007

Acacia can be musical - I expect to visit a few music venues in Nashville with alums.
The midwest is filled with museums - I plan on visiting the Corvette museum (and factory), Air Force Museum in Dayton, LST-325 Museum in Evansville, IN, architectural homes in Columbus, Indiana, plus a few Greek headquarters with their mini-museums.

Jill1228 06-08-2014 07:46 AM

3) Are you attending in any official capacity? I'm attending as a an adviser and alumnae chapter president

4) What's your favorite part (only what is ok to share of course?) Dunno yet

NutBrnHair 06-08-2014 11:28 AM

It excites me to see GreekChat veterans attending their first Conventions. I think it's terrific!

jenidallas 06-08-2014 06:43 PM

1) When and where? Seattle (technically Bellevue), July 9-13
2) Will you be attending and how many have you attended? Yes - #3 for me
3) Are you attending in any official capacity? international volunteer leader
4) What's your favorite part? Opening (with the parade of chapter flags) - it's always rough for me as my chapter is closed so I am always crying by the end but I still love that part of Convention! (And this year, I am sure I will have a moment due to the flag that will be missing this time.) :(. I also love ritual!
5) Have you ever attend another group's convention? Or have an interesting story to share? I've been at the same hotel as my mother's sorority convention (she was not attending) which caused me to call her several times that weekend to ask her questions or tell her random things.

joliebelle 06-08-2014 08:02 PM

1) When and where? Seattle, July 9-13
2) Will you be attending and how many have you attended? Yes; this will be my first one!
3) Are you attending in any official capacity? Alumnae Chapter delegate
4) What's your favorite part (only what is ok to share of course?) I'm actually really excited for ritual
5) Have you ever attend another group's convention? Or have an interesting story to share? Not yet!

PilotsWife 06-09-2014 02:53 PM

1) When and where? June 25-29; Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa, Rancho Mirage, CA
2) Will you be attending and how many have you attended? Yes, I will be attending. This will be my 5th Convention.
3) Are you attending in any official capacity? Not this time. I am fortunate that I have attended twice as a voting delegate (Chapter Advisor and Regional Team Delegate) and once as an Executive Office Staff Member. Convention 2012 and this year I'm going just to go. :)
4) What's your favorite part (only what is ok to share of course?)Initiation is usually my favorite as one of our Past President's presided. She had the entire ceremony memorized which made it even more special.
5) Have you ever attend another group's convention? Or have an interesting story to share?I attended Phi Kappa Theta's one year.

So many groups visit the same properties. Two years ago we shared a property with Alpha Gamma Delta in St.
Louis. We were moving out and they were moving in. I'm sure the staff was exhausted after those two weeks!

That was fun to see the Alpha Chi Omega/Alpha Gamma Delta conventions back to back - I was there :)

1. Indianapolis, IN - July 9-12
2. Attending. Pretty sure this makes number 9.
3. yes - as a member of the Volunteer Service Team.
4. Favorite part is the Epsilon Pi Banquet where volunteers find out if they have been honored with an Arc or Crescent, and the ceremony afterward where we find out if anyone has been awarded a Circle. Only about 25 of those have ever been awarded, and it has been a great joy to see those when they occur.
5. Have not attended another groups yet.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc
1) When and where? July 18-22nd Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center, National Harbor, Maryland ~~8 miles south of D.C.
2) Will you be attending and how many have you attended? I've attended 1 thus far but sadly will not be attending this year.
3) Are you attending in any official capacity? n/a
4) What's your favorite part? The one Boule i did attend in 2002, my fave was when all of my sorors were singing our hymn. It was amazing to hear.
5) Have you ever attend another group's convention? Or have an interesting story to share? I've never attended another groups event though I would like to. Also, in 2002, we had our Boule in Miami. Ours and Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. events overlapped. They were finishing just as we arrived. I met some WONDERFUL brothers there. I do remember I was running a bit behind for one of our meetings. I wasn't late yet but if I walked from my hotel (I stayed at a overflow hotel down the street) I would have been tardy. There were some brothers headed in the same direction and they gave me a ride. <3 AWESOME SAUCE! Our next Boule will be in 2016 & hopefully, I can attend.

That was Denver. It was also during hard financial times, and represented when the fraternity changed policies regarding VST at convention.

I ended up getting pregnant that summer. Often said I should send the bill to the fraternity. Had I gone to convention, I wouldn't have gotten pregnant at that point :)

Of course, I wouldn't trade her now. Still - it amused me.

AGDee 07-13-2014 11:19 PM

Had a wonderful time at our Convention and in 2016 we will be in... Orlando!! Woohoo!

KSUViolet06 07-14-2014 12:24 PM

^^^^We were there in 2013 (at Lake Buena Vista inside WDW!) Fun!

PKT4LIFE 07-14-2014 02:31 PM

Our Convention in DC is over. Onward to Sacramento in 2016. Only 1.5 hr drive from my home in SF.

Oh, how I wish I'd taken the plunge and joined you all in Indy this year!!
I've gone to these AGD conventions:
1972--Phoenix
1977--Norman
1979 -- Indianapolis
1981 -- Florida (Miami? Boca??)
1989 -- Dallas
2004-- Chicago
I haven't gone to other GLO conventions, but I've been to P.E.O. International (2011), to four AAUW national conventions, and to 31 out of the past 32 American Library Association Annual Conferences. (I missed 1991.)

There's always Orlando in 2016! I'm 85% sure I'll swear up and down that I'm not going, then decide on the last possible registration day to attend, just like I did this year.

You'll be there. You. Will. Be. There. I believe you'll have more than 5 years of consecutive, faithful, etc. service then.

It does fit with my 6 year plan of "all the badges, all the things."

Besides, you have a pretty new badge now! You need opportunities to wear it to get your money's worth ;)

Theta Phi Alpha's convention was absolutely wonderful--New Orleans was such a fun location! Our next convention will be in St. Louis, MO, in July of 2016. :)

I, too, am jealous of everyone who had conventions this year. Where did Alpha Gamma Delta have y'all's convention when it was last in Atlanta?

I'm hopeful that I'll get to go to ours next year in St. Louis. The last was so much fun, and there are some other things I'd like to participate in that I didn't in Atlanta. :)

Alpha Gamma Delta's convention when it was in Atlanta was at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis.

Sciencewoman 07-16-2014 06:47 PM

We'll be in Atlanta in 2016, at the Hyatt Regency downtown.

The Hyatt is a wonderful location for a convention. I'm sure you and the rest of the Gamma Phi Beta sisterhood will have a wonderful time! It has the added bonus of being directly connected with the Peachtree Center via a skywalk, so if you guys are responsible for some of your meals, there's no shortage of quick and easy options. :) (And there's a CVS if the need arises for toiletries other than shampoo/soap ;)) It's also a short walk to the Atlanta Hard a Rock Cafe.

Vision Award

I haven't seen it here but Alpha Chi Omega awarded Julie Johnson and Laura Malley Schmidt with the Vision Award at our 2014 National Convention. The Vision Award recognizes an individual, not a member of Alpha Chi Omega, for his or her significant contribution to the Greek movement. Criteria: Consideration may be given to individuals whose efforts to advance and strengthen the role of Greek life are exemplary and who is a friend of Alpha Chi Omega. Consideration may be given to individuals who have name recognition interfraternally as providing a positive influence and contribution to the Greek movement.

2014 Vision Award Recipients: Julie Johnson and Laura Malley Schmidt
Julie Johnson and Laura Malley Schmidt have worked tirelessly over the past several years to both protect and project the image of Greek organizations, foster healthy Panhellenic relationships and support on various campuses.
As members of Kappa Delta and Alpha Phi, respectively, Julie and Laura know firsthand that Greek organizations are more than a place to find friends, learn, grow and network. They understand the importance of being “Panhellenic,” fostering great relationships across campuses and serving as support systems for our chapters and national organizations. Julie and Laura also make themselves available to speak with Alpha Chi Omega’s staff and volunteer leadership and are always willing to go the extra mile for the good of NPC.

FSUZeta 07-23-2014 06:24 PM

Congratulations to them!

Would you ladies mind sharing which hotel in St. Louis? I'm guessing either the Renaissance or Hyatt Regency. :)

The brothers of Phi Kappa Sigma are having their Grand Chapter at the hotel next to my office building. They seem like nice guys.

Sigma Alpha Iota will actually be at the St. Louis Union Station Hotel, which from the looks of all the pictures they have online, is just spectacular looking. Our NEB just met there and also posted some pictures on the national Facebook page. I'm hopeful that I will be able to take a few days off from my job to get to go—I've only been to St. Louis once, and that was in 2005 on one of my high school band trips. I don't remember where I got to stay then but it definitely wasn't the Union Station hotel. :D

Jill1228 07-25-2014 08:34 AM

After a rocky start (being delayed in Chicago due to bad weather in Dallas, which caused me to miss my connection and be stranded in Dallas overnight...oh and luggage was put on much later flight), I had a great first convention. I'm starting to save for the next one...it'll be in Cleveland

That is a cool hotel. The mall attached to Union Station is so-so, but the hotel is beautiful.

Make sure you go to City Museum and City Garden while you are here. City Garden is walking distance from the hotel.
