hi im computer illiterate

ok i dont know what i am doing wrong here...
i dont know the internet?
anyway, i took out the sorority names because i just dont want to hurt anyone's feelings by saying anything bad about their sorority - ya know? and i dont want to get in trouble or be disadvantaged because of posting names... i dunno im silly.

anyway i accidentally cut out the first house!

i really liked them and the girl who rushed me first there was at my table the night before - so that was cool! they were all really excited and cute and their energy was really contagious! i liked them and i had a lot in common with several nof the girls i talked with!

chantillylace55 01-25-2002 12:18 AM

oh ya and on my first post the continuation of the "there were A LOT" sentence was "there were a lot of girl wearing jeans!" i was sooo suprised!! it was crazy, but i guess they didnt think it was as formal as i thought it was..im not sure...

justamom 01-25-2002 07:33 AM

Sounds like things are off to a good start. It also feels like you are open to all the girls you are meeting and houses you are visiting. That's a BIG plus! What you wore sounds darling and remember, it never hurts to be classy casual. When you look good, you feel good, allowing you to concentrate on getting to know the women you are meeting! Don't forget to check back with us, we are all pulling foryou!

Chantillylace...

I'm glad that you're enjoying Rush so much! Good luck! :)

chantillylace55 01-25-2002 02:06 PM

invites!!

hey ladies!! well, i just got back from picking up my invites for philanthropy party day and i got invited back to all 5! i was so shocked! i thought for sure the elite house would cut me, but there was a girl in there that i really clicked with so she probably got my back for now! haha. anyway i had to cut two of the houses and that was really hard because i liked them all so much...
(ill tell you guys the houses i cut or get cut from)
i ended up cutting adpi and kappa, and now i feel really bad! kappa was the last house i went to yesterday (house 5), and i just cut them because i felt that i was initiating most of the conversation and it was awkward at times... but im just hoping it wasnt like that because it was the last house and we were all tired...:(
i sent adpi a regret with interest though. i didnt really know what this meant, but my rho chi said that they would know that i cut them only because i was forced to cut two. i feel REALLY bad about this one because i loved the girls i talked to, i just didn't feel like i fit in, and also i only met two of the girls in adpi whereas i met at least 5 or 6 at the other houses.. this house isn't a small house either, i just think they didnt rotate enough.
anyway, i have to go to 3 philanthropy parties today. im really excited to go back to the other houses because i had great conversations with those girls and can't wait to continue them! i just wish that i could go back to all of them... hmm
if anyone knows anything else about the "regrets with interest" please inform me! i had never heard of this before and i like the idea of it!
so my parties start at noon and should be over around 5 or so, and i'll write again when i get home!
wish me luck! bye girls! xoxo

dzrose93 01-25-2002 02:10 PM

Regrets with interest...

If you cut a house and send regrets with interest, that tells the cut sorority that you may still be interested in receiving a bid from them. So, in the event that your current 3 houses do not extend you a bid, there is a possibility that you could still get one on Bid Day from the house you "regretfully" cut. It's a good method because it allows a better opportunity for girls to match with a house instead of being cut from all the houses completely. :) Hope this helps a little!

ZetaLuvBunny 01-25-2002 02:15 PM

If you leave a regret with interest, this means that if for some reason you don't recieve a bid from your final houses you have chosen, you are still eligible for a snap-bid from the one you regretted w/interest. You Rho Chi should let you know over the phone if you recieve a snap-bid, and ask you if you want to accept it. You did the right thing, but I'm sure you will recieve a bid from one of your other choices! Luck is on your side if you have a good GPA, and a good personality. :)

SparkliiQTMTSU 01-25-2002 02:36 PM

Hope you have fun tonight!! let us know how everything turns out!

Nichole

shadokat 01-25-2002 02:57 PM

This may sound like a dumb question, but if you regret with interest after your first round, and then you go to the second round of parties and get cut from sororities you went to the second round, can you go back to that "regret with interest" sorority for prefs??

Does that make sense?

Good luck Chantilly!! I hope you're enjoying yourself :) Keep us updated, as I love these stories :)

ZetaLuvBunny 01-25-2002 02:59 PM

um...I'm not sure...I doubt it. However, you probably can be COBed by that sorority after formal rush is over.

SoProud2BeAnAlphaXi 01-25-2002 03:41 PM

On some campuses, at least, you can (UW springs to mind). Chapters can continue to invite back a rushee who regretted them with interest to any day's parties, and if she accepts, she accepts, and on it goes! This is really helpful for a rushee who doesn't get enough invites back to a later round from the chapters she just saw -- she can fill in her schedule with the chapter she initially regretted with interest, and the chapter gets another shot at recruiting her. Win-win.

Keep having fun, Chantilly! It sounds like you're having a great rush!!

aggieAXO 01-25-2002 04:13 PM

If I remember correctly (I rushed 10 years ago) every house that we released was "regret with interest". The 2 smaller houses always appeared on my card everyday and I had to release using regret with interest everyday. This helps some of the smaller houses out b/c they can invite back rushees that maybe had been cut from the other 9 houses.

ladyj39 01-25-2002 05:52 PM

Good Luck Chantilly!

It sounds like you're having a blast! Congratulations on getting invited back to all five houses! I know it's hard when you're forced to cut houses that invited you back, but you know the saying: everything happens for a reason!

I hope you have a wonderful time tonight and keep up the good thoughts and high spirits!

~Jessica

Hey there, I just wanted to say good luck and let us know how it goes! I think I may have an idea of the school you go to... Your school sounds like the school a friend of mine is rushing at... anyways, good luck!

Good Luck through your journey on finding the best house for you. I know it is out there. Continue to put on the best you. Be real.

philanthropy day

hey! today was SO MUCH FUN i cant even begin to tell you! i absolutely love all three sororities i went to! the first two parties i attended were sororities that i liked yesterday, but i wasnt really IN LOVE with them... but i was so impressed by those houses! they had the cutest little projects and songs to present! im a really emotional (cry a lot) person and i seriously had to hold back tears at both of them! they had such strong bonds and were so excited! their happiness was infectious and i had a wonderful time at both! the second one i went to particularly touched me! all the girls i had met the day before came up to me and made it a point to say they were happy i was back - so that was really sweet! there was also this one girl i met there who really reminded me of one of my friends from high school and she was the best! she was even a little late to the last song because she came up to me to tell me how happy she was to have met me and how sweet she thought i was! i was seriously almost in tears! (ya im a baby). i also went to the party with the girls i clicked really well with and that was a lot of fun. it was last, and i think everyone was really tired at that point. i didnt click as well with the girls today as i did yesterday, but i still had great conversations with all of them. one girl was talking to me about the sisterhood and i was so touched by what she was saying! then the girl who wqas at my table the first night came and talked to me for a while and i just love her! she is so sweet! she told me that i was her "rush crush" whatever that means... but i still had a lot of fun here! i am sooo exhausted now! we pick up our pref invites around noon tomorrow and i am so nervous! i would be so sad if one of these wonderful houses didnt invite me back! but even if they all did - it would be incredibly difficult to cut one! argh, i guess its a wonderful predicament to be in though - right?! alright im gonna lay down i am SO tired! byebye ladies!xoxo
ps. giantschic - im sure you know too! that makes two people now who have found out! sssshhhhhh!;)

chantillylace55 01-25-2002 10:48 PM

thank you!

i also just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has offered support throughout this process! it is much needed and much appreciated!:D

Well, she is not allowed to tell you that (major rush infraction), but it is a good sign!

CkretCrush8 01-25-2002 11:12 PM

I'm glad that everything is going so good for you. I'm enjoying reading your rush journey and am anxiously waiting, like many others, for the results.

chantillylace55 01-25-2002 11:12 PM

oops! well i just wont say her sorority so she wont get in troble cause shes a sweetheart! i think it may have just been a slip up cause she was telling me how she was talking to her friend about me and she said she told her friend that. but im sure it was an accident... :p

ps. its ok i dont even know what that means

Thetagurl 01-25-2002 11:14 PM

Telling someone at my school that they are your rush crush is not a rush infraction. As long as you say "I" or "Me" you can tell a rushee whatever you want you can even say "I can't wait to see you in my letters", or "I hope to see you tomorrow" you just can't say "We". I guess it differs from school to school/

ZetaLuvBunny 01-25-2002 11:22 PM

Good luck ChantillyLace! I cry easily too! :) Be prepared for a flood of tears tomorrow (Pref night). It's the most emotional of all.

By the way...at my school you're NOT alllowed to even say anything like "I hope I'll see you tomorrow". It would have to be like "Have a good night" instead. However, if a person is invited back you ARE allowed to say to them, "I'm glad you're back".

pbpck 01-25-2002 11:32 PM

My school is extremely strict. One night I told a rushee as I was bumped(as in rotation), "Ok, I'm sure I'll see you around school!" That was considered an "oral bid." Anything can be construed as an oral bid now. It's insane. So like some of you others, we have to say "Have a good night" "Enjoy the rest of rush, " etc. It's so horrible that out of habit when we leave someone, we instinctually tend to say "see ya." Bam, oral bid. I know, I know. So at one party one of our girls accidentally said "See you, " but tried in vain to recover by adding an "re way to the door!" As in "See your way to the door!" Haha. It was hysterical, as we all witnessed the rushee's expression.

PS: Dirty rushing is illegal, but chantilly, it's a good sign!;)

ZetaLuvBunny 01-25-2002 11:45 PM

OMG that's so funny pbpck! Apparently two years ago, Pan. Council was forced to accuse my Big of commiting a rush infraction, until they found out it was complete b.s. Another sorority claimed a rushee had told them my Big said to the rushee "I can't wait for you to be a Zeta", but in fact the rushee had lied in an attempt to make the other sorority jealous so they would want her more. GRR! The only thing my Big told that girl was "Good luck." Even that might be a no-no to say now. Who knows with all the crazy rules. I'm only beginning to learn them! Next weekend is my first rush workshop for Spring rush. :) hehe

At my school, we can say I or me but we cannot speak for the whole group ever.

aephi alum 01-26-2002 02:17 PM

Good luck Chantilly, sounds like rush is going great for you. :)

"Promising bids" ... my school was very strict. You couldn't even speak for yourself (as in "I hope to see you tomorrow night") - it was considered promising an invitation. We were pretty much told "Say 'good night' or 'bye' at the door, and that's IT." But as ZetaLuvBunny said, you are allowed to say "I'm glad you're back" when they show up for the later parties.

chantillylace55 01-26-2002 03:18 PM

wow i didn't know there were so many strict rules as to what you can and can't say to the pnm's! crazy... anyway i have to pick up my invites to pref in about an hour and i am SO nervous! im shaking! i don't know why im freaking out so much... i suppose its because i liked all the houses sooo much and i would be sad to have been cut by them... grrr waiting for invites is the worst time EVER!!! AAAHHH!
as far as "oral bids" are concerned, i think my school has a different policy... i think that the actives are allowed to say "i hope i see you tomorrow" and other phrases along those lines. on panhellenic night, they made it very clear to all the pnm's that girls may say that to you, but it does not guarantee that you will be invited back. they let you know that the individual who said that may have no idea who the sorority will vote to bring back and they are just expressing their personal opinion (sort of... or just saying the things that people tend to say when leaving a conversation).
so thats where my school's panhellenic stands... IM SO NERVOUS!AAAHHH!
ill write back as soon as i get my invites! byebye! xoxo

Aphigal 01-26-2002 03:25 PM

Good luck at invite pick up -you are having a fantastic rush!!!

As far as the women saying you are her rush crush I would consider that a total compliment! That means out of all the women going to recruitment YOU are the one she wants to see come back again and again. Also don't worry about the people on the board saying she is breaking the rules, they are coming from their own college experience and I doubt anyone would risk a rush infraction over it. As someone who has been on many many different campuses it totally depends on that Panhel's rush rules.

Good luck again!!!

tridelta4ever 01-26-2002 03:57 PM

so excited!

Chantilly!

I am so excited to hear the results!! :D You sound like an absoutely wonderful young woman who will be a great addition to any sorority. You have had a fantastic rush experience, based on what I've read here, and I am just so impressed with your openness and diplomatic approach to this experience. :)

I would of course be thrilled if you ended up being a sister in Delta Delta Delta, but the most important thing is that you find a place you are both comfortable in and thrilled to be a part of. I am so completely excited for you! Good luck! ;)

All the best,
Carrie

Hey Chantilly

All this reminds me of my own rush experience last August. I was sooo confused because I absolutely loved three houses! But, I made the right decision for me and judging from other girls experiences EVERYTHING turns out just the way it is supposed to be, even if it doesn't seem like it will in the beginning. I'm dying to know what's going to happen for you!!

I'm hooked

I have definately gotten hooked on all these rush stories!! I hope that pref night goes well for you though and your heart gives you an idea of where to go. I remember it not being an easy decision to make but you have to go where your heart is. Formal rush starts here next weekend and as an alumni working for my University I am helpng our Greek Coordinator with it so it should be a completely different perspective on the whole thing. Im also at a very small school so there isn't much choice but a lot of competition so it should be fun. Good luck with it though! Let us know what you decide. :)

chantillylace55 01-26-2002 05:27 PM

INVITES TO PREF!!

HEY GUYS!!
so.... i just got back from receiving my invites for pref and i got invited back to 4 houses!!!
adpi invited me back because i had cut them with regrets, so i guess that meant they can still invite me to other parties! i was so happy!
the three houses that i went to yesterday also invited me back! again, i was SO SUPRISED!
i have to say, it was so incredibly hard for me to choose which two houses to cut - i loved them all SO much and i would have been honored to be a member of any of these houses and a sister to those amazing women.
i really almost started crying when my rho chi said i had to cut two (again with the emotions). but she told me that i could send out the regrets with interest again. if i did that, i would still be able to list these houses on my pref card if i wasn't as impressed with the houses that i did not cut.
after about fifteen minutes of deliberation and WONDERFUL advice from my rho chi, i ended up sending my regrets with interest to adpi and theta. i told her how i felt about the houses and how i felt coming from the parties and she really helped me a lot with my decision. i dont know what i would have done without her! the two houses i chose to attend (gamma phi beta and alpha phi) both had made me feel very comfortable and they really moved me emotionally. i could see myself being friends with these girls even if i wasn't in a sorority...
i am thrilled with the rush process so far and anxious to see what tonight holds in store. im already prepared with waterproof mascara - dont worry! i love these two houses and the sisterhood, philanthropy, and morals each house displays so proudly. i really do feel bad for cutting the other two, but i was forced to choose two....:(
so pref starts tonight at 5 when we get our schedule... i am SO EXCITED! not really even nervous - its like im just waiting to be able to go talk to all the friends ive made!
I CAN'T WAIT!!!
bye ladies, thank you a million times over for all your advice, support, and enthusiasm - i couldn't have made it this far without all of you!!!
ill post later after the parties (maybe before if i get REALLY excited!!!)
thank you again! byebye! xoxo

CkretCrush8 01-26-2002 05:34 PM

CONGRATULATIONS! You have a great personality and I would love to have you as one of my friends. You are just great. You are a winner. I know that tonight will just be the best for you.

Congrats on your invites! Have fun at pref and be sure to keep us posted :)

Aphigal 01-26-2002 06:16 PM

Oh my gosh you must be a rock star to have the perfect rush you are having!!!

I know that you will have another hard choice after tonight but as I was once told when attending Alpha Phi's pref "follow your heart!"

Best of luck tonight and keep us posted!:)

Good luck!!!!! SMILE, you're gorgeous! :D We're all on the edge of our seats wanting to know what happens! :)
