The wipes work well removing make-up. The scrub mask is a really good exfoliant and did good removing blackheads. Radically Clear is also good for clearing up unexpected pimples |

BTW, someone asked about lipsticks for darker women. I wear desire and it is a nice netural color. |
Lancome
Greetings Everyone,
I recently switched over from a drug store brand of make-up to Lancome and I was just thinking that it wasn't the line for me. When I decided I was ready to invest in some good make-up, I first went to a MAC counter in a mall in Maryland. I was treated horribly! The make-up artist hesitated to touch my skin, (I'm a woman of color) and she told me that since I had no previous experience with their line, I would have to set up a consultation on a Tuesday morning, which I thought was a little strange to say the least. She then literally told me that "There are a lot of make-up lines in the drug store that you can go and purchase because Mac is a little on the expensive side". Needless to say, I became pissed off, and instead of calling her exactly what she was, I wrote a letter to the general manager of the department store. So, my experiences with MAC have been very limited, and although I said I wasn't going to try it because of the way that ignorant woman treated me, I may change my mind at a later date. I have extremely sensitive skin, so I'm always searching for cleansers and masks as well. I wear Lancome now primarily, and since my light brown complexion has a few light spots, I have to use a lighter foundation and a slightly darker powder. It gives me a clean, tanned look. But, I think I'm going to try Prescriptives now! Also, does anyone know of any African American owned Spas in the Maryland/ Washington DC area??? My birthday is coming up, and I've been dying to experience the whole pamper treatment thing! |

Does anyone know which brands will actually match my skintone (or at least has the most variety of colors for Afr. Am women), and also will not make me break out (b/c I waer makeup every day)??? |
Hello,
I keep two different colors, one for the winter and spring, and one for the summer and fall. since your skin probably tans in the summer, the tan will last into the fall so you can still wear the same make-up. the case is the same for the winter/spring. I hope that helped. tigress |

What's funny though. is that they tried to get me to buy a brush set from them...I was liek "Heck naw" (n my head, of course). My friend was like, "Gurl, do not waste your money"...I'll be going to "Tarjay" (Target) , or Walgreens, etc. (somewhere cheaper). Great minds DO think alike ;)... |
Y'all need to go to Ames!
They are closing and having their liquidation sale. So all of the things you will buy a the pharmacy (for me that is concealer and lipsticks- maybe eyeliners as well) are on sale. I picked up a couple of different things for great prices. The only thing I am willing to buy at MAC is foundation (Studio fix) and lip glass (great products. But then I will only use MAC products for my foundation. I used Fashion Fair one time and broke out really, really badly. For cleansing, I generally use Ivory soap, or Neutrogena Acne fighting cleanser. Clinique dramatically different moisturizer is the best for my skin, but fragrance-free Cocoa butter lotion is not too bad (and cheaper). |
Now that we're on a cleansing tip, I want to give the good word for Clarins. I've used Clarins for about eight years now, and the products are excellent. I use their gentle foaming cleanser during the morning and their Lait Demaquillant at night, along with a complement of toners, exfoliators and moisturizers.
It's expensive. But they're pretty good at giving out samples.;) |
you know what i want?
i want the brand and name of the lipstick that marilyn manson wears. it is such a pretty, deep red that i'm sure would look almost as good on me as it does on him.

make-up
I usually do not wear make-up unless I have a special occasion to wear it. When I do, though, I wear Mary kay. I used to wear Fashion Fair and had been wearing it since freshman year in college, but over the years I think they changed the formula somehow because in pictures I would look like Casper's sister. Then my fiance's mom had a Mary Kay party and when the Mary Kay lady did my face, I could hardly tell I had it on and I was hooked! I love my Mary Kay!:D
|
I use clinique facil care! And Mac makeup! Right now i have a violet lipglass. Media is my favorite lipstick, But I was sooooo mad when i lost my desire (lipglass). i like clinque makeup too. But the colors for mac are great! I you really like mac try estee lauder also..that is who owns mac!:D

Check this out estee lauder makes more than i thought they did
http://company.monster.com/estee/ also if any of you have trouble matching your skin tone some of the counters will blend the makeup for you and if a place near you sells the tomm hill nail polish.. it is great:p |
I havent tried MAC makeup yet, but I like Iman's makeup. Its really light and blends great with my skin tone. As far a cleaners, I like Aveno (sp) or Neutrogena (very mild)
|
For cleansing I use Oil of Olay Face Wash. My mom has pretty skin and has used it all her life so I wanted to start with something I saw working for her. The key to pretty skin is not to overload your face with makeup but I love MAC makeup. I get MAC happy at the counter. The Studio Fix was the first powder that actually looked natural on me. Give me some Studio Fix NC 45, a chestnut lip liner, Coconutty lipstick, and some lip glass and I'm set. I don't need MAC makeup brushes, to me it's like buying a expensive cloth to wash a car...it's not necessary.
I don't care for Fashion Fair foundation. It makes people look orange to me and we do not have a natural orange glow  Oh someone mentioned the look of the MAC salespeople. I said that's a rather husky woman over there. Well urrr---ruhhhh SHE was a HE named Keisha. Standing there all RUPaulified   |
MAC Studiofix C7, Oh Baby Lipglass and the Chestnut lipliner makes FeeFee a happy soul. I almost forgot, I can't find my MAC Fetish lipstick. Dayum, Dayum Dayum!!!! And I have to get me some more lipglass too. :(
I never did care for Fashion Fair. The foundations always seemed to be too heavy for me. I also like Clinique's foundation (I was always between two shades with them). As far as nail polish, I'm not that picky. Brucci, Revlon, local nail salon colors suits me just fine!:D |
I love MAC. I just went to Hecht's yesterday to get some new shades before school starts. I tried on Spite (lip gloss) with the Chestnut (lip liner), and some clear lip glass to go with it, and I fell in love. I tried on a lipstick called Shitaki with the cork lip liner and i loved that too. So, I'm all set for a little while.

Make-up fanatic
I usually wear fashion fair foundation and press powder; and if I need to conceal a little bit I'd use Maybelline 3 N 1 Makeup concealer.
I don't put a lot of money down on Mascara....I'll just by some wet "n" wild mascara. We all know that's the cheap stuff but it's only on the eyelids. I use all different types of lipcolors but the colors that I'm really dig is the pale nude or pink like what Alicia keys and J. Lo wears. To accomplish this I would put on Rose Suede by Neutrogena and then apply a little of plum delish by Maybelline to give it that ice pink cool look. If you're like me you try to fight aging even though I'm not old I still try to keep my neck looking real skin tight by using Lancome's Renergie intense lift. Best perfume I just got to tell you even though this post isn't about perfume is......... Dolce and gabbana (red) and Champs Eleysses by Guerlain. Don't forget to mud mask weekly.:D :D because of the pollutants in the air. |
I swear by the MAC brushes
A little expensive, but well worth it....
I love their brushes and haven't found anything cheaper that compares...more expensive, but definitely not cheaper. |
Am I the only one not hip to Mac! I might have to get me some, well let me think again....my brithday is coming up, I smell a great gift idea!
|
I had to break down and get some MAC clear lipglass, chestnut liner, and the teddy eyeliner... I am soooo hooked now, thanks to y'all...
And now that I know what I like, I can get it online... there's only one store in my city with MAC. |
*Stopping for a minute from furiously taking notes off the thread*
I am soooo glad somebody brought this thead back up! As a matter of fact I'm actually looking to start wearing more make-up, new hairdo, everything...I've never been a person to mess with make-up/hair very much, I'm a "t-shirt and jeans" girl. However, those "I thought you were 17" comments when I'm actually 23 are getting to be a pain :p so I have to do something! I'm going to check out the MAC counter this weekend @ Lenox (I'm in the ATL) as well as Sephora (also @ Lenox) for some of the products you all mentioned. I was already familiar with Aveda because I have used some of their hair products. Sure, I will be afraid :p at first but hopefully things will turn out fine. But keep your fingers crossed anyway as I venture into this unfamiliar territory! |

Lol! I agree that once you go mac you will never go back. Another company with pretty colors is Lancome! Yeah the one that gives out free bread every once in a while. I forgot to mention two more products i live by. Revlone's skin light.. i am black and it is a bronzer... but it makes my skin look perfect.. it is a light reflector so it is like little specs of glitter.. it makes you makeup look fresh all day.. another is the oil of olay lip pencil.. it goes on smooth.. sometimes i wear it like a lipstick or under my lip glass .. i just foun out that nordstrom's carry lipglass with glitter in it!:p :p :p
|
What you know 'bout that bread?
Jingles what you know about that Lancome bread in that black Lancome bag???? :D :D :D
|
I dunno how I missed this thread
I LOVE MAC!!!! I use all of the lipglass colors as well as lipsticks. I have a few shadows but I prefer to get the four packs. That way I can't go wrong. My favorites are:
O (lipstick) O baby Desire Prrr Lychee Luxe I was a bit afraid of Lychee Luxe because I'm medium brown but the sales person talked me into it. With the Currant or Chestnut liner it's beautiful on me. I don't do foundation, but I do wear powder. I'm addicted to these products. I must admit that I've had a few bad experiences and I reported them online and recieved free products to make up for them :D :D |

On the MAC bandwagon
I use Oh Baby and Desire LipGlass and I love them. When I wear them I say I have my slutty lips on. ;)
Otherwise I just slap on some vasoline. When I mentioned that to the lady at the MAC counter she was like "iilllll, oh no". lol I have never been a fan of foundation but I am contemplating a tinted moisturizer. Have any of you tried one? |

Just wanted to say that I just purchased "O" and C-thru and I love them. :D

Hmm, I was just searching through some old threads and found this. When I went to Florida this past Christmas, we stopped by a MAC counter in the Florida Mall. The saleslady helped me and I bought a StudioFix compact. It's perfect because it covers well but not too much. I like it light and it lasted the whole day! It was worth the 20something dollars I paid for it. And now that I know my color, I can order online since MAC isn't sold in my area. I just sat down and took some notes from this thread and I'm getting ready to order the Chestnut liner since everyone's been raving about it. Thanks for all the comments.

I love MAC also. But I also use whatever works for me in whatever cost range. Here's a little peek into my makeup bag:
MAC Studio Fix Power (NW 50) MAC Lipliner (Chestnut) MAC Lip Glass (Clear) MAC Lipglass (Oh Baby) Sinful Colors Lip Gloss (Spaz Attack) Posner Plexi Shine Lip Gloss (Desire) Prestige High Shine Lip Gloss (Hustle) Iman Creme-to-Powder Foundation (Earth #2) Sinful Colors Lip Stick (Naughty Nature and Wild Cherry) MAC Lip Lacquer (Shellac) Sinful Colors Eye Liner (E4-Licorice) Sinful Colors Lip Liner (P21-Wine) I really can't wear MAC lip stick, because it dries out my lips. Their glosses are the best though. If you love MAC colors, yet can't stomach the MAC price tag, you may want to check out Sinful Colors. They are the inexpensive MAC knockoff. Here's the website- Sinful Colors You can find them just about everywhere. I usually get mine at local beauty supply stores, and I actually found it at Nordstrom Rack a couple of weeks ago, so you may want to check there also. |
M.A.C.'s Seasonal Lip Glass Stain
It's been a while since I've been on GC, HOWEVER, I always have to add my $19.13 to any make up posts.
M.A.C. has this seasonal lip glass stain called Low Light Silver. It looks so good on. You can wear it with or without lip liner. I thought I'd let you M.A.C. groupies know about that. Also, since I'm broke, I haven't been able to afford eye shadows. One day my sister and I went to ULTA and I looked at their eye shadows and they are the bomb!!! Right now they have this deal that you can buy one, get the other free. Their eye shadows are already $6.50...so you're saving a lot of money!!! I've purchased quite a few colors and they don't wear off or anything. So ladies, if you're broke and you have an ULTA in your area, check it out! Their colors are really nice too. I'm OUT! |

Thanks for the MAC info. ***FeeFee now goes on the hunt for Low Light Silver*** :p  |
I am a reformed Lancome user.
I have dumped their foundation and powder for Mary Kay's Timewise line. I have oily skin and usually around 10am, my face is SHINY!!!! The first time I used both Mary Kay's Timewise foundation and powder, my face was dry ALL DAY!! It didn't begin to shine until about maybe 8pm. No Lie! They have reformulated everything, including their shades for women of color. Bye Bye Lancome (and my $65 ). |
