I didn't qfp her responses after my last post because I am doing my best to be nice. And they were definitely qfp worthy... next time I'll qfp, since that seems to be my function these days.
no bid. told to go through again b/c they didn't get to know her in two hours. Then she flounced. I *think*. It was confusing. Jess, please go back and re-read all your posts and our responses. You may gain some insight and understand why we are frustrated and annoyed with your "story". |
Anyone else get a pm from this poster? She wants to know where I went to school.

She coulda been greek, if only that sorority hadn't messed up her paperwork. Dammit.

I would have loved to hear what school this is.
I really doubt there is ANY school, other than the University of Imagination
Pretty sure it's University of Phoenix.
I got a PM, too. She asked me if I was able to figure out the school.

If this only involved pink sequins and "that thing" this thread would be just about perfect...
To be the only PNM going through formal recruitment for multiple groups, and not getting a bid to any is about the most "rejectment" I can imagine
rejectment for reals. i love you sigmagirl2k. you coming to the party, right?
i expect i didn't get a pm b/c i am not worthy. and i thought it was the school of fishes. what do i know. |
Katmandu -- That Thang lost her paperwork.
Most intriguing were the a la carte approach to chapter selection (I didn't go to their parties but Hermione will show up in my next post) and criteria for tier selection (They throw a good party and had good stuff to drink.) |
Okey dokey. I just caught up with the rest of this thread, LOL. I earlier asked how quota works, and now methinks that with 4 "nationals" and 1 pnm, each chapter gets 1/4 person ...... Lollers AST Alumna beat me to it! The most intelligent post from the OP was "a" ....
ok no this recruitment you meet all four sororities then you choose which two you like the best and go to house tours for an hour each. Then after that night you choose which one out of two you visited for house tours you would rather have and only that particular sorority can decide if they want to give you a bid or not. Ok so there! There is a school that does it like this and though you may not believe me I was the only pnm.

okay... so after being told the school by the OP, I can say that the numbers of NPC, MCGLOs, Locals, etc. do line up with her posts. Also, there is NO info on the schools website regarding recruitment at all. After looking at the NPC chapters websites, they have NO info on recruitment either.
I'm not jumping on and saying that the OP is accurate in everything she's said, but these original facts do line up. |
Four housed sororities with meal plans functioning on budgets based on single-digit pledge classes .... I don't even know what to type next.
I didn't see anything about housing or meal plans,it looks like quite the disorganized greek system... to put it mildly.
Sigmagirl, are the chapters housed as has been implied?
as per Irishpipes thread, there's no quota or total listed.... (perhaps .25 seemed silly?) let me keep sleuthing on the housing....
I mention housing/meals only because prior posts suggested them with visiting and dinner/dessert.
from what I've been able to find... the fraternities have houses that area really gross, and when they have open parties, only freshmen attend.... lol. (obviously this was not an official source). I don't see anything about sorority houses. Per the university website, the roster #s for chapters range from 2-12.... but photos seem to indicate memberships between 4 and 20ish?
(the NPC groups refer to themselves on the university website as "one of the 4 national sororities on campus" so OP wasn't making up that odd phrasing either.) although some of these other things seem to line up, I can only hope that the OP was mistaken regarding how recruitment actually functions though.... |

Interesting and thanks, sigmagirl. It is hard for me to get my head around any NPC group sustaining a 4 person chapter unless it is on a highly desirable campus or is a very old chapter on its roster. I'm not doubting you, but what a strange system.
The timing of my posts is bad! Apologies! The small houses explanation makes sense. I am still curious about four tiny chapters and tiny recruitment.
The chapters are around 30to 45 people for the national sororities some of the locals are at 9 or 10

Okay, thanks. I thought the range was for the NPC groups. This makes much more sense. There must be some form of unstructured recruitment if "formal" yields so few women.
Yes there is modt groups pledge between 8 to 12 girls except for one of the locals which usually gets around 2 to 3
What seems odd is that it appears to be almost completely in the hands of the PNM as to which chapters to continue to visit. And then at the end, the organization can decide whether to issue the bid....but they don't decide if someone comes back to attend a party in the second round? Or are all the rounds open until bids are distributed? And there are two concurrently running recruitment processes, one formal and one COB? For the love of all that's holy, someone 'splain this! (and tell where it is)
I can't find ANYTHING about their actual recruitment at all. I don't see dates, structure, info for PNMs, nothing......
I could just be a not so savvy GC sleuth.... |
There are some schools where rush is a cluster and where they do other stupid things, like thinking it's appropriate for a member of a co-ed service fraternity to be the president of IFC and govern social fraternities (whose membership selection rules are nothing like theirs). My guess is that it is one of these.
And yeah, that's pretty much how the houses on my campus were. The chapters were 50-70 people, but the houses only held 10-14. They were made-over family houses, varying sizes of bedrooms, etc. To most of us, living in the large sorority houses with adults supervising would be kind of like living in a dorm and the whole point was to get OUT of the dorm. |
