No judgements here - I started looking at my weekend alcohol situation last night.

Amen! Been trying to determine how to cross mix some fizzy lemonade.

You know one of the bests parts about September? Oktoberfest.
This would be my plan for the evening.

TiareNoire 09-13-2013 06:23 PM

Oh goodness. I must be mentally younger than my age because I feel like a kid walking into an adult conversation. :S I just turn 21 one month ago but I've been too nervous to drink. Haha.

Can I have one . . . without the seltzer? Or ice? :D

I like it straight, but then it doesn't last as long. One shot and it's gone. And then I'm sad.

Now I'm thinking about mojitos! :p Too bad I can't get any.

These are "old-lady drinks" that I inherited from my mother, but I love both Grasshoppers & Brandy Alexanders.

Otherwise I like Bloody Mary's, Screwdrivers, Mimosas, flavored Martinis, and wintery coffee/liquor-type drinks. I also drink wine on occasion, but I don't drink very often now. My husband and I used to go to ladies night at an area bar once a week. Now I can go weeks without a single alcoholic libation.

IUHoosiergirl88 09-14-2013 02:39 PM

I'm a pretty lame drinker--I love cosmos, Cape Cods, and vodka sprites year round. Or rum and coke.

DrPhil 09-24-2013 12:17 PM

:D Bump because GC battles are only entertaining if you make us a DRANK, amuse us, and you're battling over something that couldn't have been handled outside of GC.

One love. Drink up.

Gin and ginger lemon drops on mineS, homie.

pinksequins 09-24-2013 12:36 PM

Yes. We are well beyond the cookie table ...

knight_shadow 09-24-2013 01:25 PM

Noon may or may not be too early to start drinking on a Tuesday.

I'm stressed out, though, so I don't care. I need my Blood and Honey fix.

WCsweet<3 09-24-2013 01:31 PM

Had an Old Fashioned for the first time this past weekend. They made it with bourbon though instead of brandy. Not too sure about it yet. I think I need to find someone who makes a good one and officially decide.

amIblue? 09-24-2013 04:58 PM

I want it to be about 15-20 degrees colder so I can have a Baileys and coffee. Or a white chocolate Godiva and coffee. Or both.

I could use a nice glass of wine.

I did. The second half of my day was superb lol Thank goodness for the bar across the street from my office :D

KAPPAcino 09-24-2013 11:24 PM

Beer, of course. But I also like Cutty Sark. That's my drink right there.

dekeguy 09-25-2013 10:15 AM

Beer for refreshment, wine for accompanyment, spirits for contemplation.
Hot weather go to: Gin and tonic with a slice of lime.
Cold weather go to: Famous grouse with a cube.
Mixed cocktail: French 75.

A man has to believe in something, I believe I'll have another drink.

DrPhil 10-11-2013 09:34 PM

I'm putting together chairs and watching the "Up From Slavery" DVD series. When I purchased these DVDs I knew watching them would be informative and angering. When I purchased these chairs I knew putting them together would be annoying and tedious.

Long story short, perfect scenario for a glass of wine. :)

DrPhil 11-25-2013 11:13 PM

I had a lot of fun last week with friends and colleagues. :) The libations certainly helped our fun.

I hate beer unless it tastes like apple cider. Yum.

Beer that tastes like apple cider is ... apple cider :p

Tried out a new recipe for the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special this past Saturday - a sonic screwdriver. Vodka, blue curacao, and lemon-lime soda. Both pretty and tasty. :)

;) No and your breathalyzer would tell you the difference.

IrishLake 11-26-2013 12:12 AM

Red's Apple Ale, DrPhil? Or Woodchuck? Or Angry Orchard? I'm not a huge fan of any of those, but they're ok. Too malty.

IndianaSigKap 11-26-2013 12:15 AM

Crispin is good. I like the Woodchuck granny smith.

The BEST Christmas beer out there.

DrPhil 01-27-2014 10:37 PM

Bump for Psi U MC Vito on his sick days with rum and tea.

Like how many Russians drank/drink vodka for everything. You don't know you're sick if you're wasted.

honeychile 01-27-2014 11:55 PM

I've been considering a nice cup of cocoa... with some Irish Cream in it!

DrPhil 02-02-2014 05:56 PM

A Soror and I are hosting a Super Bowl party. There will be a lot of people there.

Of course I have a plethora of libations for our guests. :) Soror is making the food.

One of my male friends asked me last night "will there be any single women there?"

I told him "no one you don't already know. But we provide the food and liquor, you figure out the rest."

I'm trying the Peach Pinnacle in addition to some gin concoctions...and beer and wine for the boring folk. Water for the last hour of sobering hydration so everyone can safely get the hell out of my house. :) Good times will be had by all.

Fun thread!

College:
  • My first drink of choice was Mike's Hard Lemonade, sophomore year. LOL good times, until I realized they were a half-step above wine coolers.
  • Senior year, I was all about Disaronno and cranberry... then just Disaronno on ice. Have NO IDEA where I got this from... oh wait! The girl I made close friends with that year was an amaretto sour girl. Yeah, that.
  • I also went greek that year and one of my sands' drink of choice was Malibu and pineapple, so then Malibu became my liquor of choice.

Post-Grad through 26ish
  • I had a one night stand with Southern Comfort. Never called him again.
  • Got reacquainted with Cuervo, then learned that it's probably the weakest tequila out there. I've moved on from tequila so I can't tell you a better tasting one.
  • I also started a tumultuous love affair with 151. I only have it now as a shooter in mixed drinks.
  • Fell in love with sangria. Still like it, when it's made well! Its the fruit punch of liquor, and smoother than say a rum punch or bahama mama, my fruity, calorie-laden drink of choice. I have a friend who makes THE WORST sangria... ok no sangria is bad sangria, but shes a super lightweight and isnt really a good chef (I've eaten at her house enough to know). She buys mid-priced red wines from South Africa (she's obsessed with SA) and just throws fruit in. Blech. I'm gonna post my recipe below.

Mid 20s to now-ish
  • Much more simpler tastes now!
  • I go to more bars now, so I've learned to like beer. Bartenders dont enjoy having to make mixed drinks when theyve got a whole bar of ales on tap. Beers I've liked and drink: Stella, Blue Moon, Hoegaarden, Sam Adams Cherry Wheat (feels and tastes childish, but oh well!), Shock Top Orange Wheat (ditto). I know I'm leaving one out but that's the gist. I'm open to suggestions based on what I've listed.
  • I've really come to enjoy gin and whiskey. No one I know likes gin, but Bombay and tonic does alright with me. Its a staple from my Weight Watchers days (4 point drink!) If I'm in the mood for dark liquor, a whiskey ginger will work (for a long time, the subways here ran massive ads for Jameson, and one day I bought a bottle. The power of advertising!)
  • Mimosas are fun too. Bellinis are a bit overrated. I'm almost always suckered by a bottomless mimosa brunch.

So yeah, those are my drinks of choice. If I ever meet any of yall fine folks, I'm probably going to have a gin/tonic or a Stella.

tld221 02-02-2014 07:14 PM

Oh! Sangria recipe (which, admittedly, is more work than its worth):
--cheap red wine (typically a syrah, but the last time I made sangria I found a cabernet/merlot/syrah blend)
--cut up fruits (I do a granny smith apple, oranges, limes, and grapes. maybe a pear and strawberries if I feel like it)
--chambord
--brandy (last time I used a blackberry-flavored one, but I guess whatever flavor floats your boat)
--sprite (not too much! otherwise it tastes like church punch from a bowl)
--optional: soak the fruits in simple syrup and brandy beforehand. Once I soaked it in Hennessey... not so bad.
--NO ICE CUBES IN SANGRIA! Chill it or drink it warm.

Every person (bartenders included) that I've asked about Licor 43 since then has looked at me like I have two heads. Apparently it's not that popular... but I love it!

Ok, I like liquor more than I thought. LOL. If you're ever back up this way, American Whiskey on 8th Ave and 30th St has a drink called Giggle Water which has: Buffalo Trace Bourbon / Licor 43 / Root Beer / Orange Bitters. It was greatness!

There is a chambord flavored vodka that I had on NYE and LOVE IT! Not a big vodka drinker (my friends rave over Ketel One and Stoli - blech! But sometimes Grey Goose) but that was tasty!

I got suckered into the Ciroc wave and will drink the peach flavored one straight. Ditto to Malibu red.

WCsweet<3 02-07-2014 07:46 PM

Snow day here so that means a couple different drinks. First up is a hot toddy except we don't have any lemon so we are trying a lemon tea along with the normal tea.

Try refrigerating or freezing the fruit to chill the sangria.
