Second Invite (our philanthropy day) starts at 3:45 due to the football game this morning.
Good luck greenteagirl, uofi's daughter, uofimom's daughter and scrapcat's friends daughter! (And we'd love to hear updates once you do!!) ;) |
Looking forward to hearing how everything goes as well.
Good Luck to everyone! |
D was invited back to 5 houses - not the exact 5 she wanted, but she shook off the initial disappointment and ended up being very happy with her philanthropy visits. She preferenced her top 3 and is crossing her fingers.

Good luck to all the girls and their moms! I was a pnm mom last year and I think it may be more stressful for the moms than it is for the girls!! I hope it goes well for everyone on this board. My daughter is now on the other end of rush and she hates the process....having to make a snap judgment of someone. So much depends on luck on who hsppens to rush you although its hard not to take rejection personally. My hope is for all the girls to enjoy the process of meeting new people and have a good attitude.

Bid Day is tomorrow, then? They are a week late this year!
|
Nope, I think we're on the same schedule as last year. Here's a post from last years thread: http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...2&postcount=27
Notice the date on the post--I think that puts bid day the first Monday after Labor Day. The reason U of I has moved bid day to a Mondays is not for Labor Day but Rosh Hashanah. Eta: I do believe I was around for bid day over Labor Day weekend, but I think this is the 3rd year they have moved to this schedule |
How many girls last day
On average how many girls do the chapters see during this last stage?
|
That's really tough to say because this can really vary from chapter to chapter. I would venture to say 120-180? Talk that with a grain of salt (a lot of them).
|
Back in the pre-RFM days, you wanted quota at each party of every stage of the game. Now, the most competitive chapters have to cut well below that, and at a lot of schools the houses couldn't accommodate that many girls at a single party!
|
Prefs
D just finished prefs. She was fortunate to get her top three from yesterday and submitted the same ranking.

My co workers daughter got 3 invites, very excited about 2 of the three but likes the third!
|
My girl going through said you could go to up to 4 pref parties. Is that true? She only had 2, so I think she may have been mistaken, but she seemed very sure. THat seems very, very weird.
|
^^I believe there are 4 party time slots to accommodate the number of PNMs. In other words, each chapter hosts 4 parties but PNMs can go to up to 3. U of I has done this before.
(In that case, the estimated number I gave to uofimom on her question is probably higher!) |

I think there are 4 time slots, but each sorority only hosts 3, with each sorority getting a break during one of the time slots. My daughter is in a sorority at UofI and that's what she said they did last night |

This year has been so quiet. I've missed having pnms going through.
Looking forward to hearing how everyone did! |
Everyone is so excited! I know I am! :)

We were told to meet at Foellinger at 4:30 pm because they have a few things to go over before the bids are passed out. :)

Good luck!! |
4 pref parties would be SO weird.
Also, I'm glad to hear numbers in the high 50's...over the years, it seems that the number of PNM's has been pretty steady, so quota in the 50's = good year, quota in the 40's = bad year, as far as PNM retention rates. |
DBB - I did hear retention was bad this year. I have a PNM going through. She said her group started with 75 PNMs and was down to 61 for prefs. She said the rumor mill is in full swing with stories of 500 girls having dropped. I'm sure it isn't that bad, but I'm interested to hear the numbers.

Waiting for it to be official
Daughter only put one house down for pref and she did not get an email not to go to bid night. So it should be all good! She felt really torn on what to do had a good visit at her first house yesterday wasn't interested at all in the third house and wanted the second one. But she said her visit wasn't good at second house. felt like she had to carry the whole conversation.
She decided one person didn't make the house and all her visits up to then had been so good decided to just go with it. |

I would not be surprised if the drop out rate ends up being around 70% or so with a new chapter recolonizing. But yes I agree, 500 drop outs seems extreme, lol |
I talked to my cousin and told her to report where her fiance's niece (who I mentioned in my first post) ended up. I'm too excited about this :/
|
Keep in mind, with retention at Illinois, that a lot of women sign up at the last minute, don't know about going Greek, etc., so while I'm sure plenty drop out because they don't like their invites, I recall a huge number of women on my dorm floor just kinda deciding the whole thing wasn't for them.

Watching the Quad Cam now!
|
ERMAHGERD I FORGOT ABOUT THE QUAD CAM.
|
I remember watching anxiously last year when my daughter was a PNM. Now she's anxiously waiting at her house for the new girls to arrive :). Easier this year!!
|
According to twitter, looks like bids just went out...
|
What will we SEE on Quad Cam?
|
Nothing now :( Sororities used to wait for NMs on the quad then run over to their houses. It looks like they didn't do too much of that this year!

It's 94 there right now....maybe too hot and did it inside?? |
Ah well, one group without new members for a few minutes was worth it?
