You will get over it quickly and be surprised how much you begin to love your glo. Good luck and enjoy your new member time!

ASTalumna06 08-30-2013 07:21 PM

You get out of what you put in. Immerse yourself in everything ABC sorority. You said the girls are great, so befriend them. If you stick it out with this chapter, I'm willing to bet you'll be back on this site one day saying how you couldn't imagine yourself being a part of any other sorority.

And remember that your membership is so much more than just the four years you're in college. Alumnae membership lasts a whole heck of a lot longer, and it makes you truly appreciate your sorority network when you move to a new place, look for a job, or try to make adult friends (which can be challenging!).

Enjoy every minute of it!

Awwww.... Group hug!!!

OP, you give away an awful lot of identifying information that you may want to go back and edit. Have some respect for your sisters as I am sure they would not appreciate you coming on an internet forum to talk about all the things you dislike about them. I, for one, would have a real issue if one of the new members of my organization felt the need to air her dirty laundry about how much she dislikes her sorority on an internet website. You may want to think twice, my dear.

DeltaBetaBaby 08-30-2013 11:47 PM

I hate pink.

ADPiEE 08-31-2013 02:10 AM

For anyone who doesn't "love" their sorority colors, go to Pinterest or Polyvore and do a search for your sorority. I guarantee you will love all the creative ways people have used your sorority's colors for clothing, decorating, etc. etc.

Here's one example...
http://www.polyvore.com/panhellenic_...ion?id=1000064

So unfair that we didn't have the internet in my day!

ASUADPi 08-31-2013 07:38 AM

I think I'm the only one here who has no clue which sorority she is in.

Nope, I have a suspicion but don't "know".

However, I hate red. With a passion and burning fire that would probably shock and awe you. What sorority did I join? AOII, however in interest of full disclaimer I was a COB pledge who happily wanted and accepted that bid, even knowing their color was red. Turns out it was a color called Cardinal, which was horrific to this life-long Kentucky Wildcat fan. Our founders really did make a great choice with our color and I adore what it means to us. But, to this day, I'm one of those AOIIs who NEVER wear red. Give me a pink or gray or blue shirt with our letters and I'm a very happy panda.

PS: OP, I pledged 30 years ago next month. I've remained involved in a variety of positions over the past 30 years and continue to do so! Believe me when I say not liking the color(s) is NO reason to dislike a sorority.

So unfair that we didn't have the internet in my day!

Personally I am extremely grateful that there was no internet in my day, no digital cameras, no cell phones with cameras (wipes sweat off brow while looking furtively around to see who is still alive to testify against me).

And I am sorry, but come on ... black and gold? I love the combination on our badge. I do, I really do. HOWEVER... gold looks awful on me. My skin tone doesn't like it and vice versa. And black - yay, black. Woohoo.

Whereas I glow (was going to write glisten but I can already hear the snarks from a certain contingent) in pink in any shade, ditto for red, blue, green, etc. They didn't have AGD or GPB at my campus, and those colors might have been a little bit of work for me, but they'd be a lot better than gold. I don't even wear much gold jewelry! Gold clothing? Elvis! Liberace! Joan Rivers! Phyllis Diller!

Another thread goes astray. Maybe we should start talking about Coke v. Pepsi.

This reminds me. When I was in college, we had a rumor that Phyllis Diller was an AOII. Random. She wasn't really someone that women of my generation know much about, and she clearly was not an AOII. I can't tell you how many times I heard this in my chapter, though. When she died, it was like a sister had died. :o

AZTheta 08-31-2013 09:59 AM

AOII Angel - seriously?

No. That's about as bad as the KitKat bar belief which is FALSE. When I disabuse people of that, they get really upset with me. It's a candy bar invented in England, folks. Get over it.

Oh well, I see AOIIs that think Coca-Cola labeling is red and white because of AOII. The first bottler of Coke had a daughter who was a loyal AOII, but he didn't own Coca-Cola, and I am sure was not the man behind the color choices. My chapter had a close relationship with the man's daughter and still holds events in her home (which is now a museum.)

That being said, Coke is much better than Pepsi. I will only drink Pepsi when absolutely desperate for caffeine.

Titchou 08-31-2013 10:23 AM

Our colors are bronze, pink and blue. I do not like them together. And who wears pink and blue together???? And bronze - we usually use yellow and I look like death warmed over in yellow - though is is my favorite color - have to leave for the walls in the house. Most colors were chosen for the ideals or concepts they are the symbol for. I get that. But I'm not wearing them together - not even the Lily version.

Missouri Ivy 08-31-2013 10:32 AM

Confession: I absolutely loathed having a teddy bear as a mascot in college. (As a mom, I have warmed up to them.)

I still don't like the Hannah doll thing...and one of our songs goes: I'm Delta Gam born and Delta Gam bred and when I die I'll be Delta Gam dead..really???

IndianaSigKap 08-31-2013 01:54 PM

Lavender and Maroon....really?? That definitely takes some getting used to.

HA! I suspected that, but now everyone knows.

ngsu, I hope you've had some time to settle into your classes and to get to know some of the women in your chapter a bit better. In the end, it really is all about the people!

LOL, when I pledged, I thought they were the strangest colors ever. I actually really like them now :D:D

bluepink 08-31-2013 02:49 PM

I think this has been mentioned numerous times but not sure in this thread...anyone even the girls I know who we're thrilled with their choice 2nd guess themselves. Makes it more interesting that they may love the house and all but they don't yet know who the girls are that will make up their pledge class and who they will be spending the next 4 years with. I know it took my daughter to mid her sophomore year to find the girls she really connected with. Now she lives in the house and loves her roommate, suite mates and has a great floor and always someone to do things with. She is also learning fast the difference between "fun" friends and "real" friends. It's a process but been a wonderful one so "make it work" LOL!

Is this a common song? URI uses this as our fight song as well, except replace Delta Gam with Rhode Island.

I have a feeling its a take off of the second verse of "Boomer Sooner", or from "I'm a Tar Heel Born", which Oklahoma stole from North Carolina. Both of them use those words.

I still don't get it in either one of them.

ETA: And Rhode Island, apparently!

Titchou 08-31-2013 03:30 PM

And so does Mississippi - still weird to me!

Mndl 08-31-2013 07:31 PM

I was always annoyed that ZTA had boring normal letters. I wanted fun greek letters darn it :p

Corona has a four point crown with a star as the front point and two Phoenix looking things. They also had a special 20th anniversary edition with palm trees on it. Obviously, it's because they love ASA.

Seriously, the only good thing about have red, white, green and gold as colors was that you could stock up on great new member gifts for CHEAP at after-Christmas sales.

ASTalumna06 08-31-2013 08:41 PM

I'm still disappointed that none of the NPCs have orange as one of their colors! :p

DubaiSis 08-31-2013 08:50 PM

Oh gawd. Then I might have to actually cut a sorority based on color!

Katmandu 08-31-2013 09:17 PM

^^^^^ This!

One of the minor things I immediately loved about Kappa Delta is the olive green/pearl white colors. My HS was orange and black, and my college was orange and black. Green and white was an oasis...

Hope the OP is enjoying new member time!

The song is originally "Boola Boola", written in 1905. The UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA combined the music and changed the words from the UNC fight song "I'm a Tarheel Born" to fit the music and make it their own.

So, when you sing this song, it's OU's fight song:
Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner
Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner
Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner
Boomer Sooner, OK U!

Oklahoma, Oklahoma
Oklahoma, Oklahoma
Oklahoma, Oklahoma
Oklahoma, OK U!

I'm a Sooner born and Sooner bred
and when I die, I'll be Sooner dead
Rah Oklahoma, Rah Oklahoma

Rah Oklahoma, OK U!

It took a while for green and white to grow on me. As an alumna though, I painted my house green and white. I tiled my kitchen green and white. It's amazing how opinions can change so drastically.

I know what you mean. Half my house is red, black and white.
