Miss Florida

Florida Tri Delta Myrrhands Jones was crowned Miss Florida last night.

AlphaXi1997 07-16-2013 02:33 PM

With all of these Panhellenic women competing, I'm wondering - do any of your Alumnae Panhellenics have a "viewing party" to cheer on our Greek sisters? I think that would be a really fun event!

ThetaPrincess24 07-16-2013 02:42 PM

Miss Idaho is Zeta Tau Alpha.

ASUADPi 07-16-2013 07:30 PM

According to my full list 20/51 are Greek and not all the states have had their pageants yet. Almost a 50% chance of the future Miss America being a greek.

Don't they still have Miss Virgin Islands and Miss Puerto Rico, making 53 contestants?

I don't know. I didn't know they had those. I know that there is Miss District of Columbia.

With the 2 other ones it would be 20/53. Still pretty decent odds that the winner will be Greek

Her name is Olivia Ruby! She's an Epsilon Mu (Loyola) initiate and was Miss St. Tammany Hall Heritage - Internationals retweeted something from her chapter sisters about the pageant!

You can vote for America's Choice among the 53 contestants by going to the Miss America page on Facebook, OR

to miss america.org website and click News, then Press Releases, and scroll down to date 8/15/13 and click Let the Miss America Voting Begin...sorry I fail at links!

BTW I watched some of each video and think Miss California will win (but voted for Miss Alaska).

I am more biased for Miss Ohio this year because she is a SisterGreek AND a KSU grad student/Alum!

Cannot wait to see the gowns! I'm normally very good at calling the top 5!

A short article on the ladies: Miss America Trivia

"Miss America Trivia

Zeta Tau Alpha has Miss Alabama, Chandler Champion, (Univ. of Ala.) and Miss Idaho, Sarah Downs, (Univ. of Pa.) Delta Gamma has Miss Illinois, Brittany Smith from Purdue and Alpha Chi Omega is well represented by Miss Indiana, Terrin Thompson (Indiana Univ.) Alpha Delta Pi has Miss Kentucky, Jenna Day, (Univ. of Ky.) and Miss Tennessee, Shelby Thompson, (Univ. of Tn.)

There are three Kappa Alpha Theta’s in the pageant; Miss Missouri, Shelby Ringdahl, (TCU), Miss New Jersey, Cara McCollum (Princeton) and Miss North Dakota, Laura Harmon, (Univ. of ND). Gamma Phi Beta is represented by Miss Montana Sheridan Pope (Moorhead) and Miss Oklahoma, Kelsey Griswold, (Oklahoma City Univ.)
Alpha Epsilon Phi has Miss New Hampshire, Samantha Russo (Emerson). Delta Zeta has Miss Ohio, Heather Wells (Youngstown State) and Miss South Dakota is a member of Alpha Phi (Univ. of SD).

Correction (although I know you aren't the author): Miss Ohio, Heather Wells, went to Kent State not Youngstown.

Oh, honeychile, that was my thought, too. Sorry if it sounded abrupt. My counting skills aren't what they used to be, so it could have been my counting, but I think her math is off.

Remember they added the part at the beginning where the contestants all wear something to represent their state? Is this for that?

Miss Alabama Chandler Champion showed off her competition wardrobe to AL.com before leaving for the 2014 Miss America pageant. The highlight of her wardrobe is a houndstooth dress sporting the Alabama National Championship emblem on the back. The Ann Northington-designed outfit will be worn during the "Show Us Your Shoes Parade" on Sept. 14. “With Chandler being a University of Alabama student and the university being the national champs for three years, we chose to do national champs,” she said.

She does sound like a great role model. Too bad about not being able to demonstrate her archery. I guess they were afraid that that might be one more way to eliminate the competition???

We can only hope for this occurrance, as some years only three or four of six preliminary winners move into Top 15/Top 10. Ask Miss Georgia 1987 Kelly Jereles, double prelim winner but not in Top Ten.

Also, I'm not sure how it's done at national level, but at the state level here your prelim scores are thrown out when you get down to the wire. I've had a friend win every prelim category except interview (but still did well in interview), made it to the top 5, and get first runner up due to new scoring.
