I want to root for Miss Texas, but twirlers just don't win talent on Miss America.

Miss Wyoming... stunning in that blue dress for talent and her piano playing was gorgeous. I think she wins.

Tap dancing in plastic pants? Oh no.

LOL - as a former twirler, I was TOTALLY impressed by Miss Texas's performance! Here's what's on the Miss America.org blog about her: The first? Miss Texas performing a baton routine twirling to Donna Summers' "Last Dance. This is unbelieveable. No drops, using her entire body. Then she brings in two more batons. One of the most incredible talents I've seen in this competition.

I wonder if MaKayla Maroney was impressed?

Miss NY had sass though.

The two singers were just too nervous and sounded awful--I Dreamed A Dream does NOT have that much vibrato--it sounded like she was singing on a bumpy road!

No offense intended, HoneyChile :) I agree that she did twirl very, very well.

I love seeing the videos of the girls performing when they were children!

Are there more tappers this year than usual?

DH (a musician) just gave Miss South Carolina "very high praise" for her Bruce Hornsby technique - rather grudgingly, since he's not terribly pro-greek. Yet.

I really hate the way they do it - why make them get ready to perform if they're not going to do so?

The singers have all been underwhelming.

I realize that most people don't understand what it takes to twirl. And yes, there are MANY more tappers than usual, IMHO.

I liked the twirler and the two piano players' performances best. Miss Iowa (third) was my favorite of the tap dancers.

YOU DO NOT BUTCHER RASCAL FLATTS! Butcher any other songs but theirs :(

My wish was Miss Washington would stop singing.

I don't think that's what Iowa intended to say. She said recreational when she meant to say medicinal. Most of the interview answers were pretty bad, imho.

I'm on team Miss Wyoming. She played the piano piece that she composed beautifully.

No technically that is not the case. Vanessa Williams was Miss New York when she was crowned

ahh - Vanessa Williams shows up as a winner on one list but not on the other list for Miss America 1984 you're right. Still its been almost 30 years.
