A very cute dress, but PNMs should probably go with a true white dress-think cotton ball color(not off white, or Dumpling as the Old Navy dress color is called) to be on the safe side.

Saw some in a window at Delia's today: http://store.delias.com/browse.do;js...vdresses.white

Darn this thread. I ordered a new white dress for Convention. And bought new white shoes. Please note, it is even harder to find white shoes in the fall than it is to find white dresses so keep that in mind too, PNMs.

So, for the plus size women out there, onestopplus.com has a ton of appropriate whites for varying ages.

I'm wearing the same white dress I've been wearing for the past 3 Conventions...from Hanna Andersson.

We just wear white socks if we don't have white shoes. I love that, because I'm not really a white shoe fan.

Random etiquette question: I'm pretty chest heavy, so even my turtlenecks become low cut. Would it be rude to wear a white tank top under it? Also, FYI, for the cheaper PNMs: Dots has some white dresses for under $20 (I bought mine for my graduation, it was $18, and plus sized which is always more costly).

FSUZeta 06-22-2012 03:35 PM

I would imagine that you could find a shirtdress style of white dress, so you would not have to worry about a white tank top. You might also get away with wearing a white skirt and white blouse, if your chest makes it hard for you to find dresses that fit properly.

Ultimately, it would be better to wear the white tank top to cover your cleavage than to "let it all hang out", but it would be best to check with the chapter's ritual officer.

Any opinions on either of these dresses?

Sarajean, i am new to the forum and I am not a Greek woman but my daughter will be a PMN. Both of the dresses that you linked seem to not fall under the category of appropriate for Bid Day. I believe that the ladies here stipulated, not too "body conscious" and not to short. the first is very body conscious and the second really looks WAY to short. I would keep looking if I were you

carnation 06-26-2012 10:56 AM

You know what? I don't think anyone is thinking about being stylish at rituals. A lot of people have just bought any old white dress they could find because really, what you're thinking about is the ritual. I've never heard anyone say that they cared what others' white dresses looked like; as a matter of fact, there's a white dress somewhere around here that has been worn to the initiations of about 15 different people.

This. A lot of my sisters search for cute white dresses because they want something versatile that they can wear in more than just sorority ceremonies for their money, but no one's ever cared about how stylish someone looked during the actual ceremonies!

Thanks. The first one is my homecoming dress from two years ago (just wondering if I could maybe reuse it).

The second I just found while browsing and thought it was kinda cute.

FWIW, neither of those dresses would be appropriate for ritual with some organizations.

Thanks for your input. The first one is my homecoming dress from 2 years ago and I was just wondering if it was appropriate enough to reuse. Guess I'll have to keep looking!

Just my two cents worth - but it is worth the effort to find a cute white dress if you are going to a campus that most people have them for bid day or initiation because there will be a lot of photos. There won't be photos at the ritual, but there will be at the celebration afterwards.

Also, there are a couple of chapters on the campus that I advise at that wear all black for prefs and a couple that wear all white for prefs so it would be worth it to have something that you could wear again.

mom2ee 06-26-2012 11:06 AM

my daughter has this dress from ring ceremony at school. it's shorter on the model and hits my daughter just at knees. would this be okay? she is attending an SEC school if that matters.

Absolutely. As an adviser, i don't even think about how stylish a sister's whites are, just that everything is covered, it's the proper (and all) white, etc.

BTW, this may have already been mentioned, but if you're white-shopping this summer, please also consider a slip to go under it. Or at least make sure it's lined such that it's not terribly see-through. It's hard to avoid with white.

I'd say even if it's lined, get a slip.

This dress is sold out b/c these are flash sales, but this would've been like the perfect dress had we needed white dresses. No cleavage, long, and shoulders are pretty much covered (throw a sweater over to be sure though)

I love this dress! Hangin in my closet right now :-)
Yes, that would be perfect for UGA bid day

Good Luck to Daughter!

atrianglepi 06-27-2012 05:40 PM

I was at the mall today looking for a dress for my class reunion and I saw several white dresses at both Macy's and Dillards. I would caution PNMs about the crocheted dresses. I tried on a white one and you could read the labels of my under garments :p.
Be sure to try white dresses on and be sure to wear nude under garments under them.

FSUZeta 06-27-2012 07:52 PM

Good advice atrianglepi!

Not entirely white dress related but PNM recruitment outfit related: in your opinion, would this necklace (http://www.shopdressu.com/shop/new-a...-necklace.html) be a cute statement piece for a PNM or corny?

CORNY. But that's just me.

Seconded. Definitely not a piece I'd wear for recruitment - especially in the SEC. (Or ever, for that matter.)

For us older ladies going to convention who haven't had to search for white dresses in 800 years, this was much less stressful!

I got my dress yesterday! It fits great, and it's definitely full length (I had this one customized), which is perfect! I actually kindof want to wear it all the time - I'm really pleased.

As a heads up - order early with eShakti just in case - they've kindof exploded overnight and it took a lot longer than other orders before this time for me to get my dress. They did overnight shipping when it was ready, though, and gave me an extra percentage off my next order. Combine that with the monthly privilege code (you get this after your first order with them) and the other random coupon codes they send out from time to time, and they know I'll be ordering from them again. :)

Stumbled across this adorable dress the other day.

That is darling!! PNMs interested in this dress should, however, make sure it is white white(it looks like it might be cream in the photo).

momof4girls 07-06-2012 12:14 PM

It is white white and nude undergarments would be a must.

happilyanchored 07-06-2012 01:06 PM

Some are obviously more appropriate than others (I personally wouldn't know, so someone please chime in), but I was researching some stuff for work and came across this slideshow on Glamour.com.

20 Flirty Little White Dresses Under $100

In that case then, I can see this on the lawn of any of the sorority houses at UGA on bid day. Perfect!

AlwaysSAI 07-06-2012 04:01 PM

There were A BUNCH of white dresses at Belk the other day.

wildcass 07-07-2012 10:54 PM

Dillards has a few one sale right now! (: Word of advice to PNMs: if it's more than 3 inches above the knee, don't buy it. I ended up having to wear tights during ritual. NOT a good look if you're above the age of 5.

lulutnl3 07-10-2012 03:57 PM

I was helping my friend look for white dresses and thought I'd share these here.
Hopefully these work:

Charter Club Dress, Sleeveless V-Neck Linen

London Times Dress, Sleeveless Asymmetrical Tiered

Charter Club Dress, Sleeveless Linen Belted

PhoenixAzul 07-27-2012 08:31 AM

Another one of my favorite sites...although sometimes I think they over-style their models. Some of these have higher necks and sleeves. Shabby Apple:

I particularly like this one:

^Those are both very nice!^

I was in Nordstrom Rack yesterday and they had a ton. I realize that other locations won't have the same inventory, but can't hurt to look.
