Awww, come on, you know better than that. :) I mean, I may not want McDonald's for lunch, but I need to eat something and it's fast & quick. So I go there and get it.

DubaiSis 07-07-2012 11:42 PM

I've said it before and I'll say it again; if it's you getting cut, It's COMPETITIVE.

Not if you hated it. Not if you were vegan. You wouldn't go there. If you went there, you were fed with something acceptable. And you made the best of it and maybe even liked it when you were done...or found something there you didn't think you liked or wanted but you did...in the end....

33girl 07-08-2012 11:32 AM

Pickety pickety pick. :) Let me rephrase: the only non-competitive recruitment would be one where PNMs do ALL the cutting with NO input on the sororities' part. And then, of course, the sororities would be the ones competing.

Titchou 07-08-2012 12:10 PM

I guess for those who live in the places that are considered competitive and who went to these schools, we see the difference. I live in Alabama. I went to Alabama. I advise at a school that is NOT Alabama. Every woman at this school who meets the GPA requirement and is not a "no" rec can get a bid and will get a bid if she stays till the end.
She need not secure recs either. So I consider this school non competitive....unlike Alabama just a few miles down the road.

33girl 07-08-2012 12:19 PM

irishpipes put it better than I did in her posts.

I know the OP is trying to be of assistance, but I thought the "schools where you absolutely need recs" thread did the trick.

Recruitment Guides!

It gets closer and closer to Fall and that means NPC Formal Recruitment and Football!

A couple of schools already have their Recruitment Guides published online:

Arkansas:

UGA's The Pointer:

Kentucky:

LSU's Greek Tiger:

Alabama's wonderful Greek Chic publication has been delayed and will be published online next week!

In other news there have been reports that record breaking numbers of PNMs are expected to be registered at some super competitive schools by their respective deadlines.

So PNMs make sure you are registered for Recruitment in a timely fashion and get your Recs in!

Here's the link to the Univ. of Arizona "The Bond"

Love how LSU's booklet is very honest on recs and states that showing a lot of skin is a faux pas when it comes to clothing.

28StGreek 07-12-2012 04:14 AM

Thank you AZ-AlphaXi for linking Arizona's recruitment guide 'The Bond'

In other recruitment related news does anyone know why adpiucf's General Advice thread isn't stickied anymore????

Ole Miss Panhellenic doesn't have a guide out but their Recruitment page has some honest advice regarding GPA

"GPA Zones: Green Zone = your options are not likely to be limited based on GPA. Yellow Zone = your options are more likely to be limited by GPA. Red Zone = your options are very likely to be limited based on GPA.

Green Zone (aka Safe Zone): 3.0+
Yellow Zone: 2.8-2.99
Red Zone: 2.79 and Below"

The also have a Pinterest account which has examples of what PNMs should wear for Skit, Philanthropy and Preference days

That really is well done. I'm impressed!

irishpipes 07-26-2012 11:12 AM

Auburn's guide is well done, but I shudder when orgs list famous members who aren't really members. Michelle Pfeiffer went to a junior college, so I don't see how she's an ADPi.

My GLO is guilty of this as well on occasion, and it drives me nuts.

I agree..one of the best I have seen. I like the frequently asked questions section and also how they put pictures of each chapter's President and VP of Recruitment along with a letter..very well done!

Both Alpha Chi Omega and Delta Zeta say that their badge was recognized by the Smithsonian for being the most beautiful. Any truth behind either of these?

FWIW, I've heard that about AXO, but not DZ. But let's face it, they're all beautiful to the wearer!

I liked this link too especially the "here's the $300 outfit, here's a similar look for $100".

That is what I love about Auburn-they are thorough and practical. There is a typo however where they are showing philanthropy outfits, yet state that they provide a shirt for Skit Day. That is incorrect.

28StGreek 07-26-2012 11:21 PM

Thank you FSUZeta for linking the Auburn guide! And also thanks to southbymidwest for the South Carolina guide!

Hopefully PNMs to both these schools will be as grateful as I am :-)

Ditto! I read a miss statement on my own chapter's page. Lynda Carter is NOT an Alpha Xi Delta. According to her IMDB profile she attended Arizona State University which has never has a chapter of Alpha Xi Delta. This myth has even been debunked in an issue of the Quill several years ago. I don't for the life of me know why people do not research these things before they put them in print. 15 minutes on Google would confirm or discredit these things. But I guess it's a sign of the times we are living in. Information is so readily accessible that we just take it for granted. Heck, I might even be guilty of it myself at times (though I doubt it). But I KNOW I'm right about Lynda Carter.

The existence of a famous alumna shouldn't even be part of the decision process of which chapter you feel most at home with. Sure it's pretty good icing on the cake, but I hope PNMs aren't basing their decisions on which GLO has had more movie stars for example!
Although I can understand the logic behind the thinking like: "look at these networking opportunities", but that shouldn't be a major deciding factor either.

Dates & Deadlines

Panhellenic Fall Formal Recruitment is almost upon us at some of the largest, Southern-style rushes in the country. Many registrations have closed but some are still open. However with late registration fees and since a PNM needs recs at many of these schools it may seem pointless to register so late. But as we all know the only way of guaranteeing of not getting a bid, is not participating in Recruitment.

Good Luck PNMs!
