AKAtude, I saw it twice because I wanted to reconcile some things in the movie with the ending. It's true, if you pay careful attention everything comes together. lol, I want to discuss it, but I am not trying to ruin it if anyone plans to go see it. Here goes:

The husband was "similar" to the rest of the fam... That's why Nicole got lost in the "fog" and couldn't get out. He came all the way home through the "fog" to say his last goodbyes. Does that make any kind of sense?? LOL

Think of why their electricity wasn't on.

Think of why she had "migraines".

Think of why the postman didn't pick up the letter to the newspaper requesting maid service.

It all kinda came together. In the middle of the movie I was ready to give up hope but like I said, the end saved it.

Has anyone else seen it? Thoughts?

AKAtude 08-23-2001 04:13 PM

Librasoul, you saw it twice?!

I did get the clue about the unmailed letter left in the mailbox.

I got the reason for the "migraines" after the explanation at the end.

Thanks for explaining the purpose of the husband in the fog.

My husband actually asked other people's opinions as we left the theater, and everyone seemed as disappointed as we were.

***If anyone out there wants to see "The Others", please don't let me discourage you because you just might like it. However, if a $1 theater is in your area, you might want to wait...just in case!***

I saw it twice because I love to think. I SAW it twice...now whether or not I PAID for it twice is a whole 'nother story!! ;)

Also, has anyone else seen the preview for the movie K-PAX starring Kevin Spacey? For some reason that movie looks really good to me, and Kevin can ACT.

AKA2D '91 08-27-2001 08:30 PM

2 Can Play that Game

Starring Vivica A. Fox, ya'll boy Morris Chestnut :D, Tamala Jones, Mo'Nique will be release in a couple of weeks. Have you all seen the trailers/promos?

AKAtude 08-27-2001 09:14 PM

Soror, don't forget Whitney's main squeeze, Bobby Brown!:p I've seen the trailers. I will be there when it opens.

AKA2D '91 08-27-2001 09:45 PM

Dayum, Girl! :D

How in the world could I have forgotten the ORIGINAL KIND OF R AND B, "rolling blunts, that is" BOBBY BROWN? :p

LMAO

also, Wendy R. Robinson from The Stever Harvey Show and that dude that played Jada's hubby in Kingdom Come.

What about you all? I'm kind of sick of seeing Tamala Jones. She kind of works on my nerves.

Ideal08 08-27-2001 09:55 PM

I'm gonna go see it. It looks pretty good.

sistarisin 08-28-2001 09:41 AM

Check out the website: http://www.spe.sony.com/movies/twocanplay/index2.html I could have Morris for dinner! That boy is so-o-o-o foine!!!! That's all I'ma say- anything else would be x-rated!

Professor 08-28-2001 10:33 AM

Hi Ladies,

I've been very busy at work and have not had time to post a great deal. I've missed yall.

I plan to see the movie but when are our folks going to get some real roles. It bothers me that Vivica and Halle still have to play in these type of films. I want to see some serious acting.

Diva7401 08-28-2001 11:10 AM

Can we get some more African American actors in Hollywood?

Dang,
I will go and support this movie, as I have all of the other African American movies that have been released. I must say though I am tired of seeing the SAME people in every movie.

For example, let's just review these movies....

The Best Man Morris Chesnut, Nia Long Tay Diggs, Sanaa Lathan

The Wood
Tay Diggs, Tamala Jones, Sanaa Lathan

Love & Basketball
Omar Epps, Sanaa Lathan

The Brothers
Morris Chesnut, Tamala Jones, Gabrielle Union

2 Can Play the Game
Morris Chesnut, Gabrielle Union, Tamala Jones

I know that there are more than 6 or 7 Talented African American actors in Hollywood!

Steeltrap 08-28-2001 11:57 AM

Professor and "serious acting"

A couple of posts ago, Professor made a point about "serious acting."

IMO, I think one reason why you see films like 2 Can Play That Game this is because there's a perception -- perception, mind you -- out there that African-American films with mature, serious themes don't make enough caiche.' Money still talks.

Years ago, I recall a film critic's article about "To Sleep With Anger," which starred Danny Glover. The writer specifically cited that as a serious, classy movie that had trouble finding an audience.

Also, a lot of moviegoers are still teenagers or in their very early 20s and may want comedies or heavy-duty urban entertainment.

It speaks to the need to get more African-Americans in writing, directing, development and other "control" positions in the entertainment industry.

sphinxpoet 08-28-2001 04:29 PM

I'm There

There are a lack of Black Actors in Roles in hollywood. There are Black Actors and Actresses they just do not seem to land roles and then as a Black actor and actress you are still type cast. All that being said I am at that movie.

Can we get some more African American actors in Hollywood?

I hear ya!!

Just like Lawrence (formerly Larry) Fishburne (moved on up to the Eastside with the Jeffersons), Angela Bassett, Wesley Snipes, Eddie Murphy (his own productions) Pamela Grier, (was also known as Pam) Samuel L. Jackson (formerly Sam - He moved too - has a nice house!!) Halle Barry, Danny Glover, and Oprah!!!

But thanks to people like Sidney Poitner and Dorothy Dandridge, Halle McDaniel, Butterfly McQueen who helped open doors to stardom.

We may not be where we wanna be - but at least we're not where we use to be!!

I saw Hannibal on DVD. Nasssssssty! That movie had me screamig and squelching at 2 am! Especially the ending. It's good, but I'm glad I waited until it came out on DVD. The DVD has an alternate ending.

I saw it last night at the $1.50 theater. It was a cute movie with an important message. I really enjoyed it.

Maybe it was the crowd I was watching it with. So many people were laughing that it didn't feel like a horror film at all.

Ideal08 12-03-2001 09:36 AM

What was the last good movie you saw?

I tried to search for this, and I KNOW we had a thread similar to this, but I'm wondering if it got lost when we switched over to the new GC. Anyway, let's use this thread to talk about movies...

What are some movies that you've either rented or seen lately that you would DEFINITELY recommend?

Last night, me and my honey rented "Memento," and it was REALLY good!!! I want to own it on DVD!! I love suspense thrillers, and this was a good one. I just wanted to tell yall about it. It's about this guy who is searching for his wife's murderer, but the thing is, he has NO SHORT TERM MEMORY!!! So he can't remember people he meets, or conversations, or anything. It's really good. I recommend it! Two pinkies up!!

Anne Rice's Feast of All Saints, but unfortunately, this won't be on in the month of December at all. :( I wanted to watch it again.

Just a reminder, Angela Bassett's movie, Ruby's Bucket of Blood, is coming on again tonight, SHO2 @ 9pm. I caught the beginning of it on Saturday, and it seemed pretty good. The little girl from Eve's Bayou is in it, and she has grown so much! I guess it has been 4 years.

AllyMo 12-03-2001 09:54 AM

Ideal08,
I just saw "behind enemy lines" this weekend and it was a great movie. I was burnt out on army flicks after seeing Saving Private Ryan, but this movie was incredible. The plot was well set up, the dialog between characters flowed, and the general concept surrounding the movie was original. . . throughout the movie and at the end, everyone in the theatre was clapping (if that is any indication of it's success:) ) I would recommend it to anyone.

Sexy Mocha 12-03-2001 11:19 AM

I saw Harry Potter this weekend and it was GREAT!
For those of you that saw it, did you notice any thing interesting about Harry's birthday cake? It was the most beautiful cake I've ever seen in a movie ;)

CrimsonTide4 12-03-2001 11:21 AM

Monsters, Inc. was the last movie I saw but this weekend and every weekend for the rest of the year (4 more) I will be movie watching BIG TIME!!

Ideal08, this is too much, the minute I saw this topic, I was going to talk about Memento. I have to Psychology PhD roomates, so they rented it yesterday, it really was a good movie. I suggested that we rent the DVD and get the behind the scenes point-of-view, because there were still some things we had questions about.

And Monsters, Inc was hilarious....

CkretCrush8 12-03-2001 07:53 PM

Legally Blonde was the last movie I saw. It was great! Makes a person want to go to Law School even more ;)

I'm going to watch the special features, today, I have some questions, too. It kinda reminds me of Fight Club. Did it remind you of Fight Club? You know, while I was watching it, I thought of the abnormal psych class that I took while I was in undergrad.

Remember Sammy Jenkis... ;)

BTW, HAPPY B-DAY, FuturePhD!!! :D

Who's in this flick? Refresh my memory... I was JUST tellin' my dude, if you've seen one war movie, you've seen them all. When we were looking for what to rent, he said to me, "You do realize that in like 20 years, there will be a movie about 9/11? We didn't have too many movies about WW2, and now, they are popping up all over the place." But if you say Behind Enemy Lines is a good one, we'll get that next. He likes war movies, I guess we can watch another one. I really am tired of them, lol. I STILL haven't seen Saving Pvt. Ryan or A Thin Red Line. Don't plan on watchin' either one, lol.

Sugar_N_Spice 12-03-2001 08:10 PM

The last movie I saw that I liked was "Training Day"...even though I had my "racial issues" about the movie (such as Denzel, the bad guy, being shot by the "godd" white guy, Ethan Hawke, of whom I also like)...But, anyway, it was a good movie...

Ideal08 12-03-2001 08:21 PM

Give it way why don'tcha???

"Chocolat" with Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp. Rented it at Blockbuster- loved it.

Finer Woman10-A-91 12-04-2001 10:44 AM

I saw that too!

Monsters Inc. was a really cute movie. That was the first rated G movie I have seen on a date ever. (Can you believe I went to see it with an Omega man too?!) All and all, I would go and see it again!

Does that mean stay at home dates, too? Girl, I will rent some kiddie movies, lol, they usually have adult humor. Isn't that something? But I FINALLY saw Cats & Dogs, and I LOVED it!!! That's rated G, right? This past weekend, me and my dude were talkin' about going to the movies, so I suggested Monsters Inc. He was like, "Naw, man, we just watched Shrek." I was like, :(, ok. LOL

Ooo, it did remind me of fight club...I had forgotten all about that movie. It had the same psychological twist to it, and you had no idea what was really going on until the end, just like Memento. That scene with Sammy Jenkis and his wife, with the insulin?... that was soooooo sad. And thanks for the birthday greeting!!!!

Finer Woman10-A-91 12-05-2001 11:09 AM

Re: Re: I saw that too!

You know its hard for me...I am a filmmaker. So typically, I go for the gut wrenching stuff. But, movies like Cats and Dogs and Monsters Inc. have great technical merit that make me say...lemme check this one out. BTW, I have not seen Cats and Dogs...yet, but we will definitely check it out! Kinda appropriate thematically...get it "cats and dogs" ;) LOL

I really liked Legally Blonde as well. Reese Witherspoon had some of the cutest outfits. I also just saw Black Knight this past weekend, and I laughed so hard!

I didn't think it would be that funny..:D

P.S I am fairly new to this site so hello to everyone!:)

lil_sunshine 12-05-2001 08:04 PM

Hello, prettyone! Welcome to Greekchat! :D

4ever-blessed 12-05-2001 08:54 PM

I recently rented a movie titled "The Usual Suspects" starring Kevin Spacey. This has got to be one of the best movies ever made. If you've never seen it, I would definitely recommend it.

lil_sunshine 12-06-2001 01:33 PM

I've seen "The Usual Suspects" before and I thought it was one of the best movies that I've ever seen at the time. Until I saw "American Beauty." :D ;) Welcome to Greekchat, 4ever-blessed! :)

4ever-blessed 12-06-2001 05:39 PM

Thank you lil_sunshine. I actually saw "The Usual Suspects" and "American Beauty" on the same night. I must say that I really liked "American Beauty" , but "The Usual Suspects" blew my mind.
