DC area

Well I'm located around DC and the three BGLO's that I see the most is:

1) OMEGA PSI PHI
Always on the yard stepping EVERY friday @1:00
2) DELTA SIGMA THETA
Hosting a number of meetings concerning the black community
3) ALPHA PHI ALPHA
I think that they do the MOST volunteer work

Speaking from the Windy City........

There are a LOT of Sorors (deltas) and AKAs in Chicago! Actually one our largest Alum chapters is the Chicago Alum chapter over 600 members  (and just think that is ACTIVE sorors, not including inactive sorors, and undergrad chapters in Chicago) And I never realized how many sorors were from Chicago, until we had our National Convention in Chi-Town Summer of 2000!!!! Come to think of it, AKA and Delta may have a TIE in Chicago They(DST/AKA) are EVERYWHERE!!!:) Not only that, but everytime I come home to Chicago from school, I am ALWAYS seeing different programs, and events sponsored or hosted by Alpha Kappa Alpha ________Chapter, or Delta Sigma Theta ____chapter!!!!

I don't see too many SGrhos, and I may bump into a Zeta every now and then

I am ALWAYS seeing Alphas (especially driving to work, I see the para on there cars)
Kappas are all over the Windy City as well, and so are the Omegas.
Don't see too may Sigmas, I don't remember ever seeing a Beta or an Iota!!!:(

I shoulda did this earlier!

I think if you'd separated the question like: Which sorority/fraternity is known best in the community for service vs. social, some of these answers may have been different. As for Ohio(North of Columbus!), it's:

Sororities involved in the most Community service:

Delta Sigma Theta
Alpha Kappa Alpha
Zeta Phi Beta
Sigma Gamma Rho

Popularity: Same Order

Fraternities involved in the most Community service:

Alpha Phi Alpha
Kappa Alpha Psi
Phi Betta Sigma
Omega Psi Phi
Iota Phi Theta

Popularity:

Alpha Phi Alpha
Kappa Alpha Psi
Omega Psi Phi
Phi Beta Sigma
Iota Phi Theta

Alumni-Both Sororitie and Fraternities:
Alpha Phi Alpha and Delta Sigma Theta

BETA PHI PI

Beta Phi Pi National History

Beta Phi Pi Fraternity, Incorporated, a nationally recognized organization of college and professional men is one of the nation's newest Black Greek lettered organizations. Beta Phi Pi was founded on April 6, 1986 on the campus of Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois. We embrace the fundamental principle of providing a NON-HAZING environment to stimulate personal growth within individuals. The goals of the organization are best expressed by our two mottos, "We Build Men, Men Build Futures," and "Striving for Success, Stressing Excellence." Though Beta Phi Pi is still quite a young organization, it is in fact one of the most positive and fastest growing fraternities in the country.

The Men of Beta Phi Pi promote brotherhood, self improvement, African American pride, equal rights, and service to the surrounding communities with our youth as the primary target. Beta Phi Pi functions primarily as a service organization while social priorities fall into place. As an organization, Beta Phi Pi is striving to educate others on the importance of service, for it is in giving back of ourselves to the community in which we can be of service, not only to the surrounding communities, but to the world at large. We SHALL advance as one people, united together by our love of God and one another!

I guess you can say that they are just known in the Midwest. There are a LOT of Betas at University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, and at Southern Illinois University, as well as Eastern Illinois University

Here is a link to their National Hompage.
