I'm noticing a theme here of weird movies that are just too "out there" with their time travel, incomprehensible time/space continuum distortions, "magical" plot elements, etc. Vanilla Sky with Tom Cruise was the only movie I just couldn't wait to be done. There's one scene where he's contemplating jumping off the roof of a building, and someone in the theater actually yelled out, "Just jump already and get this over with!"

I wanted to walk out on Avatar, but instead suffered a 3D headache caused by excessive eye-rolling
|
Almost walked out of the second second movie about Neo and Morphus (I refuse to call it the Matrix. IT IS NOT!) Sorry but the scene with the party and sex scene kind of ruined it for me.

I got 30 minutes in (after contemplating since minute 10 whether or not I should turn it off), and I just couldn't take it anymore. I don't get it. |
The only movie I've ever walked out of was Spice World, when I was in college. We snuck into As Good As It Gets just as it was starting. At the end, one of my friends yelled, "That was waaaay better than Spice World!"
An example of a movie that makes you work hard to understand it, but it's worth it: Momento. Examples of movies that make you work too hard to understand them, and I still don't get it: Vanilla Sky, Magnolia, Mulholland Drive. Vanilla Sky was a tough one for me, because I otherwise love Cameron Crowe. On the other hand, I like many of the movies mentioned earlier in this thread and even own a few of them (Moulin Rouge, Eyes Wide Shut, Gladiator, Catch Me If You Can, The Hangover). |
Hubby and I walked out of "Before Sunrise," with Ethan Hawke. It was pretty terrible.
I fell asleep during one of the "Lord of the Rings" at the theater - maybe the last one? All I remember is conking out and waking up and still an hour from the end. It was sooo long. At home, I fall asleep during movies quite often. It really has to engage me if I'm watching after 10pm. |
Harlem Nights- was my first date where my parents allowed me to go with just the boy (rather than a group date or something). Date went as well as the movie.
Species. horrible movie; another first date but the date went much better because we were making so much fun of the movie. Ended up dating that guy for 2 years. |
Walked out of Paranormal Activity and Cloverfield. Not because they were really bad but because I get motion sickness. I got really sick watching both of them and will NEVER see another movie that is bouncy like that.

I didn't walk out, but I thought 'Why did I get married too' was corny as hell. Most of it was unrealistic and just wouldn't happen in real life. It looked like Tyler Perry just threw that one together to get a quick (very large) check. I came close to walking out, though.

It's definitely, definitely a polarizing movie - I think it's an insanely clever combination of disparate forms (heist/mistaken-identity tales, anti-hero noir, slapstick, a sort of faux Americana, and to top it off, the story itself is an adaptation of Chandler's The Big Sleep). At the same time, the film is bizarrely reliant on mood/atmosphere, and the characters are quixotic at best - I can completely see why some wouldn't be able to embrace any of the individual elements, particularly when one of the keys is the soundtrack. |
I just saw one yesterday. "Drive" with Ryan Gosling. It was so bad. I think the script was 5 pages...maybe. So little dialogue. The worst part was, he didn't even take off his shirt.

We walked out of "Forgetting Sarah Marshall." After 5 minutes. I just didn't need or want to see that.

My husband is a great gauge for all bad movies. If he stays awake it's a passable movie. If he falls asleep... well it must be bad! I tend to hold out to the bitter end. But I think one of the hardest for me to stay with was the Twilight movies (any of them!) that mopey Kristin Stewart (can she smile or alter her vocal intonation at all??) and Robert Pattinson. Ug. Grab your wand (he was much more likeable as Harry Potters enemy) All the back and forth with the vampire/werewolf and rain and more rain, dull colors... I'm nodding off at the thought!
