I love attempt #2 and #4.... they rock!... Now I wish I were a DG, lol

dukemama 09-05-2011 10:47 PM

I agree, the DG designs are fantastic! Let me know if you ever actually have these put onto fabric, WhiteDaisy. I have a friend who's a Delta Gamma who would LOVE these!

More to come...I'm also getting the itch to delve into different GLOs.

Could you do the anchor print and the argyle crest print for AST? I would love you for forever and a day :)

DubaiSis 09-06-2011 12:56 AM

Now I'm going to have to up my game! Those are fantastic. And I am going to order the samples so that people can buy them. Unfortunately that's the trick before you can put them for sale. And I'm going to be stealing your crest piece. I think that will look fabu with a crest design on a blue and gold background and little tiny quills.

Are you worrying about the repeat?

Yeah, the ordering samples before people can buy kinda sucks...but it's smart on their part.

I am being mindful of the repeat for the most part. I had trouble with it for Attempt #2...but the others should be clean repeats. I'm still learning. As far as I can get it now, I make a design I like, then crop it down to where there will be a clean repeat.

DubaiSis 09-06-2011 02:27 AM

OK, I have to go sell a Nile cruise, and then I'm getting back to this, and yes, I'm going to buy probably 15 samples by the time I'm done. As a quilter, the idea of having more swatches is not exactly punishment. I'll just need to find some non-Alpha Xis (I think I'm going to start calling us Fuzzies) to buy whatever little things I make.

WhiteDaisy128 09-06-2011 04:11 AM

Here is a Sigma one...

DubaiSis 09-06-2011 05:49 AM

The AGD website isn't great for stealing graphics. Can you give me some of your symbols? And the colors are red, green and buff, right (normally shown as yellow?) flower, mascot, whatev.

WhiteDaisy128 09-06-2011 07:02 AM

A quick AGD one...

WhiteDaisy, you may have yet another career in your future. These are fabulous.

I'm buying 2 of the DG prints to make tote bags when they're ready, and almost wishing I had reason for some of the others. When you make a DZ, perhaps I'll make a tote for my SIL.

WhiteDaisy128 09-06-2011 09:42 AM

Another AGD one...little more playful this time.

BraveMaroon 09-06-2011 10:37 AM

I would buy any of these before I'd buy a thing from Lilly.

And I'm not just saying that because I'd love for someone with more aesthetic talent than I to come up with a Sigma Kappa design...

These are fun, whimsical, thoughtful and just a joy to browse.

Mevara 09-06-2011 11:58 AM

White Daisy could you try doing a Kappa one? I never like the Lilly prints.

Ditto! If I weren't so artistically challenged, I'd be making these in a heartbeat!

DeltaBetaBaby 09-06-2011 12:51 PM

I was going to try my hand at a Phi Mu design, but there's nothing for me to use except quatrefoils! I wish we had more symbols!

To reverse the print you just flip horizontal. In most of these cases I took a logo or symbol off the sorority web page and played around with it. Thankfully they don't protect all of their images so they can be borrowed relatively easily. Then I saved it as a .pub file and then saved it again as a .jpg so that it could be uploaded. Then I shrunk it down so I could paste it on here. Yes, I had some time on my hands today!

I think you can do just one image and the spoonflower website will replicate it, but I haven't played around with the site much.

WhiteDaisy, Is this how you do this as well?

I'm a photoshop girl for graphic design stuff. Still lots of by-hand manipulation & copying/pasting though.

Soooo pretty! I bet NPHC has rules about using letters/symbols, etc, but WD128: can you try your hand at one for SGRho, with poodles specifically?

I'll give it a go tomorrow perhaps.

I know there are licensing rules concerning symbols, letters, etc. That's why I don't think I'll actually make any of these for sale, unfortunately...

WhiteDaisy128 09-06-2011 03:32 PM

Last one for the day (I really like this one).

I've never used Photoshop but it wouldn't surprise me if it was easier to use than Publisher. Finding good, free clip art is a big problem I've run into so far. I recognize some of the graphics WD is using, but she's found a lot more than I have so far! I really got stuck with AGD, but I found a great graphic for either KD or Alpha Phi (or both?). We'll see if I have more time tomorrow. It's now midnight so I think it's bedtime for me!

Mevara 09-06-2011 04:09 PM

Bummer. I would absolutely buy the SK stuff and gift my chapter Pin Pillows for their Bid Day baskets.

I've never sewed a quilt, but I can sew a straight line, and I can make polyfil my bitch!

Yeah, bummer! I would buy some fabric and donate it a local chapter for the women to use for letters or pillows, etc.

You might forward your designs to HQ and ask about permission to sell it - all they could say is no.

That's a good idea. I was investigating SpoonFlower some more and it appears that the "owner" of the fabric gets a 10% commission on all sales of his/her fabric...so I'm guessing HQs are going to say no...but it's worth a shot.

In photoshop, you can download free "brushes" and "custom shapes" -- a lot of the clip art I'm using are really just the brushes and custom shapes...they are like stamps...really easy to use, resize, etc. So I do think it makes it faster because I'm not searching for clip art specifically in most cases. I have an ETSY shop where I do graphic design (wedding monograms, birth announcements, invitations, etc.) so my photoshop set up is pretty kitted out because of that.

Or maybe they'll ask for a cut - perhaps if you suggested a donation to their foundations for every sale. It's such a positive representation of the groups - I think licensing is mainly about controlling the "brand" - i.e. what sorority wants their letters on a thong? - so I'll cross my fingers. I need Gamma Phi fabric!

I'm pretty sure the first time I saw the ASA print, the link came from our HQ, so you never know. I think it was made by an ASA, though, so it might make a difference there, but it might not.
