NPC at my school started requiring a junior/senior quota to ensure that juniors and seniors would go through recruitment. Does anyone else's school do this?
Sorry for getting off subject! |

Even if you could take, say, one senior without it counting in your quota, I think I'd really want to know why she suddenly decided that NOW was the time to go through recruitment. This almost sounds too much like AI in my mind. Juniors are a bit different, especially if your school has a large number of people who transfer in after two years at a CC***. There is still a chance that they will live in the house for a year, you get the additional maturity of a junior in college, and they are less likely to burn out by graduation (and therefore more likely to get involved as an alum right away). ***This was pretty common at my alma mater, because you can't transfer in as a sophomore. I think that it is also true in California, where junior colleges don't have the stigma they do elsewhere, and maybe in some other states where there are branch colleges feeding a flagship. |
^^^Similar thing with my school. The sophomore/junior thing wasn't a big deal because KSU has 7 branch campuses and it was pretty common for people to spend 2 years at a branch (for monetary reasons or others) then transfer into the main campus.
Most of the time, the soph/junior women were GREAT for the reasons you listed above (raises hand!) I think I am a more involved alumna because I joined later and didn't have the 4 year burnout that a lot of women had who were in my age group but joined as freshmen. Example: my grandbig and I graduated at the same time (and we're the same age), but she took longer to get involved in alumnae life due to having been super involved (2 officer terms and 2 years living-in) since freshman year. I was pretty ready to jump in because I had only had 2.5 years under my belt. |

I don't have a lot of issues, just a lot of bad things that have happened which I do not need to name. My school isn't that competitive about sororities & we do not have sorority houses.

omg we r kind of similar!

I have a similar story! I've always wanted to join a sorority (and been told by many ppl that they could seem me in one or that i would be great for it). I want to rush this coming fall! However, for me it was mainly the lack of funds and being busy(i worked a lot... i order to make money because i needed to stay in school) that kept me from rushing. Also in addition to working over my 4 years i have been/remained very active on campus and have been involved in several different departments/realms on campus and have met/worked with a lot of people(i <3 making new friends/networking). Its funny to me i feel college has worked in opposite form. typically 1st years have less on their plate and it gradually increases. But for me i feel i was very very busy my 1st and 2nd year and have gradually been less busy. As far as my gpa im not 100% sure what is the requirement on my campus but i have an idea, which i believe i meet. (im working to be grad school competitive so im very aware of my gpa and its importance) I am going to be a 5th year next year (senior standing) because it's hard to get classes in my major, i have a minor and i still work(on campus). I think I have a lot to offer as i have experience holding official meetings, planning large well attended events, and reps my campus locally, nationally and on campus. I feel like I'll have and will be missing something and i dont want to go on thinking woulda shoulda coulda if I didn't try. I was just wondering what you think? I dont think im too old or that it will look bad or something. I am secure in myself and because i know the person i am and i can and will bring something great, special and unique to any org. i just would like to know your thoughts and opinions. Thanks so much ya'll |
