Is it just me or is anyone else confused when people say "Droid" in this thread? I'm ASSuming most are saying "Droid" instead of typing out Android, but when I see that word I only think of the Motorola Droid (the Verizon phone).

I have the Motorola Droid, Verizon phone. People are tending to use "Droid" to refer to any phone with the Google created Android operating system. There are some phones with Droid in the name, like the Droid Incredible, Motorola Droid and Droid X. Otherwise, it's like saying Kleenex or Xerox instead of tissues and photocopying.

^^^I always thought "Droid" was a nickname for "Android." That's why I say it

I copy/paste it because I'm lazy. It's unicode.

Second monocle I've seen this week. Damn you, B.O.B., and your Grammy performance.

nittanygirl 03-04-2011 08:27 PM

Upgraded last night.
Finally decided b/w Droid Pro, Samsung Fascinate or iPhone...

and the winner is.....

iPhone!

Droid Pro kinda lost out automatically when I decided to buy from Best Buy instead, and they do not carry those.
Samsung Fascinate just lost out due to size and annoyance with the Verizon store that I somehow connected to that phone in my mind.... I really did like it.

But, so far I am very happy with my iPhone. At first I was worried call sound quality sucked, but that's because I had left the plastic cover on the screen! Oops!!

LOOOOL

AGDLynn 03-05-2011 09:02 PM

I have the BB Storm.

Anyone know if the power cords are the same for the IPhone or Droids?

I am SOO tired of buying extras everytime I buy a new phone.

Splash 03-05-2011 09:08 PM

Just went from BB Curve to iPhone 4 on Verizon. BB does nothing.

Drolefille 03-05-2011 09:52 PM

AGDLynn, some BB ones are the same as Droid ones, i think it's a Verizon thing maybe? My Droid2 is the same as my Nook, is the same as my coworker's old BB. But no promises. You can always get cheap chargers on the internet.

AGDLynn 03-05-2011 10:30 PM

What about touch keyboards?

I am getting frustrated witht small keyboard on the Storm.

(And I agree about the Internet connection too!)

nittanygirl 03-05-2011 10:31 PM

AGDLynn
Mom's old BB charger does not work for her Droid.
iPhone however is the same cord as your iPod/if you have an iHome/charging dock for your ipod

Drolefille 03-05-2011 10:35 PM

Droid 2 and X have slide out keyboards, it's awesome. Also you can install Swype which is fun too.

My daughter is using her Nook charger for her original Droid. It has the slide out keyboard as well (referring to your other post).

I had picked up a generic USB car charger and I can plug my Droid into that in the car. It works for my Ipod too... it works for anything that has a USB cable that can charge too so I imagine if I ever get a Nook, it will work for that as well.

Android phones and iPhones do not share the same charting ports.

There are also a few discrepancies between Androids, but the vast majority use the same type.

Despite that, none of them will work with the iPhone because APPLE ALWAYS HAS TO BE DIFFERENT/DIFFICULT.

I had no idea that the Driod2 and Nook charger worked on each other, that's amazing to know! Thank you so much!

The boyfriends BB Curve from Verizon (the new one with the trackpad) and my Driod 2 are the same. The iPhone has it's own charger that isn't compatible at all with any non-Apple products.

I just bought a spare Nook charger since they're only 15 bucks and mine crapped out (they're replacing it though) so I just wanted an extra backup for both phone and Nook :D

They're all "USB_________" I just forget what the blank is.

I have more spare Droid chargers then I can count because the Blackberry I had before the Droid the charger works for the Driod, the boyfriends Blackberry, both of our bluetooth headset chargers work and my old bluetooth charger works (it is MIA) but it's good to know when I'm in the car and my Nook is on low battery and I'm waiting for him to get off of work I can use the car charger to charge it :)

AGDLynn 03-06-2011 08:00 PM

I think that I have decided on the Droid 2 Global. If I am interpreting websites correctly, it would be $149.00 from Verizon and free from Sam's Club (when I get a $40) membership.

So..guess it's off to Sam's tomorrow to see about it!

AGDLynn 03-11-2011 08:52 AM

Okay, I got my Droid!:D

BB Storm charger works! :D

Having a problem at first getting the home page/icons, etc. Called Tech Support lady who helped and also changed my plan to save more $ when she saw that I don't actually make a lot of calls or send texts.

But I am having a frustrating time. Maybe because I wasn't getting a good network connection but..

I will be on a page and not touch the screen for about 1/2 second and then it goes black and then I have to hit a key on the keypad which brings up the screen with the Unlock icon so I have to swipe that again.

Anyone know why this is happening and (most importantly) how to stop it? Or is it just a learning curve?

I will be in the car for about 4 hours today (depending on how much hubby vs me drives.) so I can practice.

AGDee 03-11-2011 08:57 AM

Lynn: You can change the screen time out length. Touch the applications icon and find Settings. Choose Display, then Screen Timeout. You don't want to make it too long or you risk butt dialing people/opening apps without meaning to, etc. But, when it is too short, it's annoying. I have mine set to 1 minute and am considering 2 minutes instead.

AGDLynn 03-11-2011 10:35 AM

Thanks again, lol. Will try.

Drolefille 03-11-2011 02:28 PM

Also you don't have to hit the keypad to bring the screen up, tapping the power button will do it.

Splash 03-11-2011 11:52 PM

"You JUST bought an iPhone and you already have fingerprints on it?! You don't take care of any of your nice stuff!"

Oh, mom

Micro USB. My Kindle and Evo use the same port.

It's freaking awesome to have so many charging options open to me, and I can also unplug the micro USB for my phone and use the plug part as an adapter for my iPod cord, too.

AGDee 03-12-2011 12:17 AM

So very glad we had this talk about chargers because I got a Nook yesterday for my birthday and am loving that I can interchange my Nook and Droid chargers.

I really wish there was a universal charger for everything.

Very true! I can also plug my HTC's cord into my Apple USB/outlet base that I normally have my MP3 player attached to. I love that the chargers aren't just one long cord hardwired to a base. So much convenience. :D

It seems like the micro USB is getting there. Apple just has to be special.

Apple knows that there are die-hard Mac users out there who will go out and buy everything they sell. The good thing for all of the "Mac people" is that their iPod, iPhone, and iPad share the same charger.

But I completely agree. If they'd jump on the bandwagon and change the port on Apple products, a universal charger would be awesome!

My boyfriend is like this with everything but the iPhone, he cant stand it! I love how we have so much that use the same chargers, the only thing that doesn't is our iPods/iTouch/iPads which at least share the same so it works!

Still having problems with the screen going black after a millisecond. Reading the Droid X forums, this seems to be a common problem.

I "may" have figured out how to answer a call but will have to keep calling myself to practice.

Also, the Droid 2 Global says that I have Backup Assistant but the verizonwireless page says Droids don't. It has saved a few contacts but not all.

Under Settings, Display, Screen timeout, have you adjusted that? And you're still having an issue? If so, I'd recommend taking it to the store and having them take a look at it. If it's a problem with the hardware or software, they should fix it. If it's something weird with settings they should be able to help with that too.

I also have a backup Assistant listed but haven't paid attention to how much it backs up, except that I know it runs. I'll double check.

AGDee 03-19-2011 06:59 PM

The refurbed Droid I got my daughter for Christmas has been wonky with charging. Verizon has been awesome though. They replaced the battery for free on Wednesday and when we still had issues charging it, said they'd ship us another one. The refurb did come with a year warranty, thank goodness. It was all free and they were really nice. The guy checked all the stores nearby too to see if any of them had one in stock, but they didn't. So, til Tuesday, when the new one should arrive, we keep swapping batteries and charging them on my phone. It's a work around. I'm glad we have the same phone so we can do that. A 17 year old girl without her phone is kinda pitiful to see!

Re: Backup Assistant

According to the webpage, Droid doesn't have it. Oh well. At least I am working on updating my contacts lists.

Phone was better today but then again, I haven't used it a lot. I'll see how it goes.

Dee...I'm betting that the last BB I got was a refurbished one after the one before that had problems.. If I turned it off, the only way to turn it back on was to take out the battery and put it back in, lol.

That doesn't make any sense if the Droid 2 has it. And it does.

Buttonz 03-21-2011 07:13 PM

I can't get my angry birds or angry birds seasons to update on the driod! Any suggestions?

AGDLynn 03-21-2011 10:41 PM

I did mine the other day without any problem. Did you uninstall and then re-install?

BTW, the time-out issue is better (crossing fingers and toes!).

Newbie question for the Droid....

What is rooting?

I am reading about it on the Droid Life website but I have no idea what it means.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rooting_(Android_OS)

Basically you hack into the phone and gain full access of features that may be locked out or just unused by your carrier or phone brand. It lets you rewrite any file, not just the ones you're 'supposed' to mess with and lets you install custom versions of Android, or apps, etc.

AGDLynn 03-22-2011 10:56 PM

Sounds like the perfect way to screw up my phone, lol.
