I just about died the first time I saw this...the new squirrel has the same name as my fiance, haha |
I ditto (like air quotes, but with your fingers straight and only with one hand) in class ALL the time. At National Leadership Conference a lot of KDs snapped though. Only the GPhiBs snap on our campus though.
You know you're a sorority member when... You explain people's personalities in terms of which house they would join. (e.g. You don't know Suzy? Well she would probably be an XYZ, with the looks of ABC thrown in the mix!) |
I also forgot "Oh hot damn, this is Alpha Gam"...that song came on the radio and I forgot there were actual lyrics to it. That's all I ever sing. ;)
|
...when you go to 3 different tjmaxx's looking for a lion sculpture you saw there months ago but sadly it is gone now :(
|
I believe only the DGs at Tennessee snap, fwiw

Sorority colors is how I initially became a New Orleans Saints fan.
Last year when they were in the Super Bowl, I didnt know who to cheer for, so I thought, well both Kappa Alpha Theta and Beta Sigma Phi have black & gold as their colors. The Saints are black & gold, so I will cheer for them. It worked! The Saints won! There are some other reasons as to why I have stayed a fan, but colors is how I became a fan. I'll probably end up cheering for the Steelers for the same reason! :) |

Instead of snapping, my chapter does ditto ticking as well- pointer and middle finger together and shaking your wrist. Or in conversation if we agree we say "ditto ticks to that." The best is when you wear a bunch of bracelets or a charm bracelet because then your ditto tick can be heard.

You know you're a sorority member (specifically an Alpha Chi) when you see red and green together and think of AXO before thinking Christmas :)
|
You know you're a sorority member when you rotate at parties. It actually surprises me that people don't do this more often. At my high school class reunions, lots of people just spend the whole night in the same little knot of people, when you'd think they'd take the opportunity to mingle more, considering we don't see each other very often.
|
Every Sunday, at church, when we sing the doxology, I have to remind myself to say the real words, and not the Alpha Xi Grace version that we sang before meals....
Be present at our table, Lord Be here and everywhere adored These mercies bless and grant that we May feast in paradise with thee God bless our dear fraternity May we e'er united be May our quill reign eternally Alpha Xi Delta, prasies thee. |
^^^beautiful.

I also fill out NCAA BB brackets by where we have/had chapters and root for teams in random bowl games the same way. |

I want to add: you know that you're a sorority member when you have certain timeless outfits that will fit recruitment (even though you're an alumna), when you have ziplock bags of aluminum poptops on your refrigerator for Ronald McDonald House (or whatever for your philanthropy) (I've been told that my refrigerator looks like a recycling bin), or any pets being named after your mascot. |
You know you're a sorority member when you are listening to the State of the Union address and multitasking, and as your right hand is on your mouse, when Obama says something you like (like, say, gays shouldn't be forbidden from serving in the military), you snap instead of applauding.
(This just happened. My husband also snapped. *scratches head*) |
For the advisors/volunteers:
When you can read back the returning PNMs list, pair off sisters/PNMs, hand out nametags, cut out paper sailboats, and eat dinner for the evening simultaneously--in 20 minutes. |
Agreed! If there's one thing being in a sorority has taught me, it's how to multitask!!
|
When you crane your prick your ears extra far when someone mentions anything "Greek"
|
You know you're a sorority girl when you tell your friends that you think not having heard from your top-choice grad school yet means you're not "on their first bid list". Ha!
|
Your daughter starts getting all the propaganda from colleges all over the country during her junior year of high school and your first thought as you see each one is "We have a chapter there" or "We don't have a chapter there".

Alumnae volunteers/advisors:
When you wake up to no new sorority-related emails in your inbox, and kind of freak out and think they're something wrong with gmail. |
