Yep.

1. It's past the point of cute and silly.

2. Who has time to stick hundreds of forks in a lawn?

It'll only take 2-3 minutes if you have 8-10 people doing it.

Ehh...

Different strokes, I guess.

Exactly. Not only do the councils operate differently, but the greek systems on each campus do as well. I think as fellow greeks we need to respect that. I doubt you or DrPhil would appreciate a non member walking up to you and telling you that your traditions are stupid. The fraternity or sorority "prank" is something that may sound dumb to a non NIC/NPC member, but for some of us it is still a campus tradition. The fact that my chapter serenades all of the sororities every semester probably seems dumb as hell to a lot of people, but it's something we've always done and it's part of our culture.

Uhhh...miss us with this. Before knight_shadow and I entered the thread, the OP was being told that her prank idea was stupid.

Moreover, this isn't just about different conferences and councils. It is also about different campuses. And I frankly don't care what outsiders have to say about our traditions.

What is the point of a discussion board if it's not discussing things?

Y'all know I'm always trying to learn about different councils (and have through GC and outside sources). Serenading makes sense. Bid day/pledge presents/etc makes sense. Those sound like legitimate traditions. Putting forks in a lawn seems like a waste of time. And although the post has since been deleted, the idea of "forking" was foreign to someone else here.

If our words sway (general) you from practicing your traditions, they weren't that deep/serious to begin with.

My post wasn't necessarily about forking, it was about pranking in general. Saying that forking was a waste of time, or that raking was dumb, can be misinterpreted as you(general) thinking that the practice of pranking (or similar activities) in general is stupid or a waste of time.

DrPhil 11-10-2010 06:02 PM

Holla at the posters who were dissecting the issue of pranking before we entered the thread.

Senusret I 11-10-2010 06:08 PM

LMAOOOOOOOOOO @ forking

We totally couldn't do this at my campus because the only green space was in public spaces, but I sooooo would have been down for that.

FHwku 11-10-2010 08:19 PM

They definitely know what kegs are down there still. Just sayin' ;)

IrishLake 11-10-2010 09:26 PM

^^^^ Thank goodness. That school has changed since I was there. There's a FB group "I went to ONU before partying died." ;) They have NO idea what a "Halfway Party" even is! Poor souls....

The girl I advise give me the impression that partying isn't that big anymore. Maybe that's just because I'm old and an advisor.

DPsiDGirl 11-10-2010 09:38 PM

I should clarify that we're expecting pranks to be turned on us. Its all in good fun! Most of the fraternities know we're gonna get them, they just don't know when or where ;)

Also I don't think I've seen any brothers from Ottawa on this website...

DPsiDGirl 11-10-2010 09:40 PM

Oh and I should also mention they get their gifts for new members (this is soon after their final initiation is done) after they get pranked :)

And we would never just leave all this stuff there for them to clean up. this is just to surprise them and let them know we're thinking of them in a cute way, not to be rude!

So, wait, then do they go to Findlay or BG or some other NW Ohio metropolis/college town to get their partying in? They know what kegs are, they just can't have keggers on their floor like we did any more. OR trash can punch parties, or byob's, or...

Examples of things we've done:
-Forking a lawn
-Chiselling a single brick out of the Sigma Pi house and painting it with their colours and letters and sending them pictures
-Tie bunches of balloons to the trees outside their house, and wrote "XOXO, YOUR SECRET ADMIRERS" on them

Any ideas/pranks you've pulled and want to brag about are much appreciated :)

Also please remember, we're poking fun at friends here, not making enemies.

okay...that brick was stolen YEARS ago darling...and now the world knows its been passed down to us :P.
- and no pictures!!
.........
Just setting the record straight that the brick was most definitely NOT the work of the current actives :)

I'm pretty sure no one was concerned about this, so there was really no need to set anything straight.

Senusret I 11-14-2010 08:13 PM

She did the right thing.

It may not be the work of the current actives, but they have the opportunity to do the truly memorable thing: return it unscathed to its owners. Those are the actions that create real and lasting legacies.

When I've seen forking, it wasn't just random either.. you spell something or make a big picture with them. The band seniors like to fork the practice field at band camp the last night of band camp. They spell out their class year. The cheerleaders fork the senior football players lawns with their numbers for Homecoming.
