-the girls who "don't want to be slutty" who do nothing but date the same guy for forever, then after they're married, wake up and realize all they missed and screw around on their husband

-the guys who want to marry a virgin and then end up going to prostitutes on the side because the virgin doesn't know what to do and they don't know how/think it's wrong to teach her

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

No one but that girl has yet espoused a double standard. He openly pursued her purely for sex and because of what he said and did, she called him a whore. After all that she's done and said to get these guys in bed, she needs to not be name-calling. They engaged in the same behavior--pursuing each other just for sex--so she didn't have the right to call him a whore.

Really. I think what she did was unbelievable. I'd feel the same way if roles were reversed. Regardless of gender, it takes a lot of gall to run around sleeping with people just to "collect" them, then turn around and call someone something like that. 33girl is right, it's either both of them or neither. If she doesn't call her behavior by that name, then she certainly should not be using that word on him.

You all must have a bone to pick with this topic because there was no double standard in christiangirl's post. LOL. I imagine it's the same bone you had to pick in response to my first post whereas ThetaPrincess and KSigRC were able to get my point.

Christiangirl said that this woman had the nerve to call one of the men a whore. That means that if he's a whore, she may also be a whore and it makes no sense for her to try to call him out. That's egalitarianism at its finest. There's enough whore to go around.

More importantly, it's pretty lame for this girl's publicized pussy to live in infamy and be used as a case for gender equality and egalitarianism.

Bullshit.

What do you call a woman or man who is sexually "expressive?" Free.

What do you call a woman or man who publicizes their sexcapades? Low self-esteem slut.***

in effect, cg seemed to be the first person to call the thesis writer a whore. as she has said I'm right in what I posted, her post was misinterpreted by Tulip86.

Incidentally, I'll take #11.

I'd roll my eyes at that, too. Tulip86 misinterpreted her post. I read your post as you sharing Tulip86's misinterpretation.

Either way, gender equality doesn't mean that women are immune to a) being whores and b) being called whores.

Tulip86 10-05-2010 07:55 PM

I didn't misinterpret it, CG is right to call the girl out on her double standard (calling the guy out on his behavior while doing the same), I just said I think its bad women call other women whores or refer to them as such (not saying CG did). I should have made myself more clear: Calling anyone a whore (who doesn't have sex for a living) is not ok in my book. Sorry for the mixup.

All this discussion about gender equality and whatnot doesn't make the girl who did this any less stupid and downright mean for telling everyone about it and including the guy's names and pictures.

I don't care if you're male or female, and I don't care how many people you sleep with.
Just keep it to yourself, because that is nobody's business.

I giggled because the title has "viral" in it, and well increased sexual partners can lead to a virus, disease, infection, open sores, and so on.

Bummer this girl had her name put out there, but the people I would feel sorry for, if they exist, are the partners of the men who now have confirmation or have learned of the infidelity of someone they were involved with, maybe even loved.

Maybe they could use some of the excuses seen in Tre1's thread.

I haven't visted all of the links or really read into the story, but the thing that stuck out to me the most, and still does, is that one of the "friends" that she sent it to distributed the ppt. She might be a good judget of sexual prowess, but apparently she's very bad at judging someone's character.

Oooooh no, just one of many many many many things. Including her misspellings within the slides--even in my disgust, I noticed a couple of those and they pissed me off on top of the fact.

You mean "BY: Drew Magary" at the top didn't do that for you, hoss?

Magary's a Deadspin staple, and he has a definite point of view (DURRRRP) - he's also far smarter than you'll guess from this snippet, and he's also overwhelmingly right here. One of the key problems with the "HERO/SLUT" dichotomy is that it suppresses (by intent or by consequence - likely both) female sexuality. Sexuality is often power. She was in the position of power here, and used it stupidly - that happens. She's a fucking moron. That happens.

He's right, though - "A woman who likes having sex with men has NOTHING to be ashamed of. Ever ever ever ever."

A woman who's a fucking moron? Be ashamed. Ever.

Unless it's a publication I read a lot, I don't read the byline generally speaking. After I read the article I did read the byline, but only then.

Oh. Okay then.

I'm interested to hear what part you felt was wrong - remember, he's a humor writer, so keep that in mind. His main point - "Women shouldn't be ashamed of enjoying sex" - seems pretty universal . . . do you think he should be facetious in that point?

I can see how you'd ignore the "Mr. Smells His Own Taint" portion as humor - but with the context that his job is to entertain people as a humor writer on the sports blog that helped break the story (and with a style I've already noted isn't "for everybody"), I'm still interested in seeing what you think.

I get that you disagree that people should have sex - but do you disagree that they should be allowed to have sex without societal condescension, regardless of gender? That's kind of what I'm getting at.

christiangirl 10-06-2010 03:35 AM

I disagree that they should be spared from societal condecension if they refuse to keep their business to themselves. Regardless of gender.

People will always offer their support/resistance/approval/condescension/etc. of another person's actions whether or not they were asked. Whether or not they should is a moot point because they always will. However, society would not be condescending of actions about which it does not know. By broadcasting her indescretions (even to just the few she intended), she opened herself up to others giving their thoughts and opinions of her behavior, whether they are in favor or opposed.

To more specifically answer your question, I don't necessarily have a problem with the fact that she enjoys sex (I'm sure I will, too, someday). I don't like that she went after these guys, not because she was interested in being with them but because she was collecting them like trophies or souvenirs, then disrespected their privacy by giving all these intimate details to others. I think it's awful when men objectify women then brag about it and I feel the same way when the genders are reversed.

Yes...if they keep it to themselves. This is no different than the girl that gets labeled Suzy Slut because she broadcasts her conquests across campus through her friends on a weekly basis, while her BFF is doing exactly the same thing but keeping it to herself and therefore has no label. You just can't expect people to reserve comment when you've made your private business public.

This girl's mistake was sending it to her friends. I learned many moons ago that even your best friends can't always be trusted to have the best judgment. So if it's something you really don't want shared, keep it to yourself.

Personally, I don't care who she has sex with or how many partners she has...it's the fact that she used these men as subjects that bothers me.

OK - this is where I'm getting crossed up . . . just to be clear, when you say "used [the guys]" what do you mean? Used them sexually, or used them for some other purpose?

agzg 10-06-2010 12:17 PM

The thing for me is that it's not really fair. If a guy did this, he'd be an asshole and (probably) the subject of law suits. This girl does this, she's a slut AND an asshole and (probably) the subject of law suits.

She's an idiot and an asshole. Nothing more.

Used them as subjects in her thesis, which she shared with others, using their real names. If I hook up with someone and they publicize the fact with my name, photo, and other personal details you better believe I'll be pissed.

I don't give a shit who is having sex with who (and feel it's TMI to share it)...if it's just sex. This wasn't.

If I read this correctly, this was a "fake" thesis -- nothing she turned in for credit. Maybe this will fall more under "cyberbullying" [good call on that thread, DrPhil]?

I read it as this: she's a grown woman who can screw anyone she wants. When she endangers folks' future job prospects/relationships/etc, it becomes a problem.

Yes, my first post spoke to gender hypocrisy. However, I would consider those men to be low self-esteem whores, and even moreso the case if they didn't use a condom.
