I didn't like that whole beer chugging thing on Dawson's the other night, either. I thought the writers might actually show some of the positive aspects (not that drinking is wrong) of fraternity life. But, it seems like they only want to make Jack and his brothers look "fratty". Plus, it really seemed like Jack dumped Toby (in a very insensitive way) because he didn't fit into his new "frat" life, casting another negative light on fraternities. But, that's just how I saw it.

On tonight's episode of Gilmore Girls on the WB, Rory is told she needs to be more social in order to be accepted to Harvard after high school, so she decides to ask a table of girls if she can sit with them, and they say yes. She talks to them for a few minutes until lunch is over, and then her "frenemy", Paris, is like "Oh my gosh, how did you get in with the Puffs?" Then she proceeds to explain that the Puffs are the most elite high school sorority there, and that their table is invitation-only. Paris begs Rory not to say anything bad about her to the Puffs, because she is a legacy to them and she says her "whole life depends on it".

The next day, Rory is asked to sit at the Puff table again, and when she asks "what's the whole sorority deal?" they act as if they don't know, and then say "well what's the point of a secret society if people know about it?" Then Paris walks by the table, and they ask if she knows her. Rory says yes and says all this nice stuff about her that gets Paris invited to sit with them as well.

That evening, Loralie (Rory's mom) tells Rory that she needs to put on her cute pajamas, lipgloss, etc. because Francie (one of the Puffs) called and said they were going to kidnap her. So they kidnapped her, and blindfolded her (along with other girls). Then they are told in order to join, the can't say anything about what they are to do. They break into the school and light a candle in the principle's office. They are told to say an oath while holding the candle, and ring the bell on the desk three times. The principle comes in and yells at all of them when here hears the bell. He gives them detention and such. Rory ends up not joining them and going back to reading a book and listening to her CD player during lunch. Eventually another girl sits with her at her table and reads a book also.

ZetaluvBunny, thank you so much for posting that and your other detailed posts!!! :D I LOVE GG but have been so out of the loop lately - have only seen one episode (the debutante one).

"Dying to Belong" is currently on USA and as I nurse my st. paddy's day hangover i'm watching it - getting a pretty big kick out of its' stupidity too ;)

LOL! I'm watching it now too. I think I've seen it years ago. You can tell it's really old cuz the song "Damn, I wish I was your lover" is playing in the background. We used to sing that on the summer DAYCARE bus when I was in 3rd grade LOL. When I first turned it on this girl was screaming, "I'm tired of being just a pledge. When am I gonna become a person?" This portrayal irks me but, oh, well. BTW Mark ("Zach" from SBTBell") is HOT! hahaha

its not really about greek life but in josh hartnett's 40 days and 40 nights (which by the way is really funny, go see it!)--in his love interests' roommate's work desk, behind her propped on the shelf, are the letters XO, so i guess the girl or maybe the actress is a Chi O? :) I just thought it was cool how they manage to insert little inferences like that in movies and stuff.

That movie "Dying to Belong" with Hilary Swank was on USA yesterday morning. What a horrible movie. They obviously did not do any research on sorority life. The ritual was so ridiculous with the cauldron and pricking their fingers and dripping blood on the roses. And then when she decided to "talk", they put that vase of roses covered in blood on her bed. WEIRD!!!

The stars of that movie are too much...it's the second Becky from Roseanne, Sixx from Blossom, Hilary Swank, Zack from Saved by the Bell, and Tracey Middendorf from that horrible VH1 movie where she was a psycho girl. She seems to be psycho in a lot of movies, and wasn't she the girl who claimed Steve raped her on 90210? Anyway, it's a horrible film!!

Does anyone notice a resembelence in a lot of the TV plot lines ?? I mean will and carlton rush... Carlton doesn't get a bid.. Will quits. Zach and Slater and Screech rush.. Screech doesn't get a bid.. Zach and Slater quit, In the 90210 episode.. they all bid.. Andrea doesn't want to join becuase they aren't very tolerant of Jewish girls.. (that's why the girl won't tell anyone.. they don't really let jewish people in supposedly) so I remember all decline their bids eventually and "make their own sorority" that meets at the peach pit once a week. Just find it interesting the whole "frats and sorors didnt' take my friend.. so I'm not going either" theme in the plots .... anyone have any true life stories like this where friends you rushed with didn' t get in the same house or anything like that ? ?

i wanted to open this up again because you all seem to have forgotten the episode of Full House where Kimmy and DJ go to a frat party and Kimmy gets kicked out because they could lose their charter if someone found out under aged kids got drunk there. That one was a good one because it kind of showed the zero tolerance that fraternities have.

Also there is an episode of Whose the Boss where Angela gets drunk at a fraternity party...haha

There is 80's tv for you!
