that's great oldaopi. as we tell girls all the time, its all about connections.

AGDAlum 07-05-2010 01:42 PM

Can you add this one to the list?
"AGDAlum's Friend's Daughter at Mississippi State"
She's got recs for all but Phi Mu and Chi O.

Pirouette 07-05-2010 06:01 PM

I have a cousin going through recruitment in the fall!
Also, I have my dance crew (girls from the dance team I coach). Some have recs from me, but not all are going to schools with Sigma Kappa.

lovespink88 07-05-2010 06:53 PM

Aw, Jill, thanks for listing mine! I totally wasn't expecting it because she's my fiances cousin, but that makes me happy :)

UHDEEGEE 07-05-2010 08:15 PM

My son, along with two of his best friends, are all heading out of state to the same SEC school. They have already been to a few spring/summer parties and are looking forward to the more formal recruitment process. I've also written recs for 6 girls from my son's high school who will be attending the same university.

Recommendations?

Hey! I am new to this forum but found this topic very interesting and helpful! I am rushing this fall, and didn't know that recommendations from alum and active members were so important. I am an XXX hopeful, but not a legacy (my dad was an AEPi but that doesn't quite help me). I don't know anyone well enough to ask for a recommendation for XXX, but I do for YYY. Even though YYY isn't one of my top choices should I still ask for a recommendation? Should I look for a recommendation for XXX?

Thanks!! And good luck to everyone rushing Fall and Spring!

You should try to get a recommendation for every sorority at your school. I don't know why you're so set on XXX, but you should know that there's a very good chance you may not end up there. You may not end up liking them, or they may not end up liking you, or you may both like each other but you end up falling in love with a completely different sorority. If you tell everyone you are "XXX or nothing" you never give yourself a chance with other sororities, who do NOT like to hear things like this. Please, Please, please stop saying how much you love XXX. It will only hurt you. (I am leaving out the sorority name in case the OP wises up and changes her posts)

ETA, also check around your school, church etc for women who you may not know were in sororities, or who will know people who are in the chapters you're looking for.

Hey thank you for the advice! I feel most at home in XXX (is it better to not mention specific sororities?) as compared to the other houses I have visited but definitely have an open mind about every other sorority. I understand my opinions can change a lot as I go through the rush process. I know not to tell everyone at my school that I have a preference- that's one way to automatically get cut!! Good to know I should get a recommendation for all. If I can't find one for all, is it ok to have recommendations from people who are not related to greek life at all (employers etc)? Also is it better to get a recommendation from an alum or current member?

thank you sooo much hope this isn't too long-winded :)

angels&angles 07-09-2010 01:05 PM

Thank you for changing your post. It is definitely better not to mention specifics. If someone from your school sees this (and there are several posters from AZ), it could significantly hurt your recruitment opportunities.

The recommendations can only come from members of the sorority, although they do not have to have been from that particular chapter. If you can't find people you know to write the recommendations for you, try contacting your local alumnae panhellenic. They have women who will be very used to writing recommendations for PNMs.

UFGirl12 07-19-2010 02:31 PM

I'm rushing at UF this fall and as it draws nearer I am getting more and more excited!! I'm looking for recs, so if anybody would be willing to get to know me more and write one for me, that would be absolutely wonderful and I'd be SO appreciative! :) I love Greek chat and it's answered so many questions for me! :)

cmac484 07-19-2010 11:11 PM

My daughter will be rushing at Texas Tech this Fall!

fsu sweetie 07-20-2010 11:35 AM

I'll be rushing FSU this Fall! I'm so excited, and I've been reading here - which has been very informative. I'm desperately seeking recommendation letters, exhausting all sources for my top choice, but no luck. Thanks again for this thread!!

To you and all going through Recruitment this Fall, here's the new Panhellenic Website!

http://ufpanhellenic.com/home

Its completely updated, so it should be very helpful.

If you have any questions, I may be of help - I'm on the Panhellenic Council at UF currently.

question about bid matching

i'm rushing this fall!

quick question about bid matching:
at my school, pnms pref 2 houses. let's say you rank ABC as your first choice and XYZ as your second. ABC's first bidlist is 10 girls long and you are number 11, and you are number 1 on XYZ's first bidlist. so the computer goes through once and recognizes that you are not on your first choice's (ABC's) first bidlist.

my question is, is XYZ immediately notified that you are a match for them? if at least one girl on ABC's first bidlist matches with her first choice that is another house, can you get moved up on ABC's bidlist and be extended a bid from ABC?

Thanks!!

a PNM is never matched to her second choice until her first choice reaches quota. So, yes .. if/when one of the PNMs on ABC's first bidlist is matched to another sorority (GHI) then her name drops off ABC's first bidlist and the next name in line on the second bid list is moved to the first bid list.

prettygirlie 07-24-2010 09:05 PM

I'm rushing fall 2010 (keeping the school a secret!)
For sure posting my recruitment story too (:

Aerylle 07-24-2010 11:24 PM

I'm rushing this fall, but I am keeping my school a secret.

:]

I'll be posting my recruitment story after it happens.

OleMissGlitter 07-25-2010 07:46 PM

I've written 2 recs so far this year, 1 for Ole Miss and 1 for Auburn! I cannot wait to find out where my Auburn PNM goes because I helped her to get 5 of her recs for other houses there! It's been slow for me this year too! I expect at least 5 more for Ole Miss.

easytolove2009 07-25-2010 09:19 PM

I'm rushing at Florida State University and I am desperately needing recs if anyone would like to get to know me and help I would be very thankful....

That's why hand matching is so much fun - who's going to be the first to yell, "Closed!"

Jill, you didn't forget my little's daughter, did you? She is second term, though.

texas_09 07-27-2010 03:55 PM

I'm trying to get my sister to rush, but she keeps resisting :( She still has some time to decide so fingers-crossed that she ends up rushing at Pitt, which is where she's going!!

CherrySonata 07-30-2010 11:18 AM

I will be doing Recruitment in August but also not telling the name of my school just yet :)

hotpink&pearls 07-31-2010 04:39 PM

I'm a freshman rushing at a big SEC school very soon!

NUBlue&Blue 07-31-2010 05:12 PM

Done with daughters, but we'll have our first SEC rush in the family when our son goes to Ole Miss. Most of his girl friends from high school are going to Georgia Southern and GCSU, with only one going to UGa.

OleMissGlitter 07-31-2010 05:52 PM

I wrote 4 more AOII recs yesterday! 3 for Ole Miss and 1 for Bama!

dgdramadawg 08-03-2010 10:20 AM

I posted this a long while ago, but I think it got missed in the making of the list... my cousin is going through recruitment at Central Michigan.

In addition, as always I have a massive rec crew. Hoping for as many threads as possible out of the group!

pretty-in-pink 08-03-2010 10:55 AM

I am going through 2010 formal fall recruitment! I have recs for all chapters on campus (both personal and general) and I am the first person in my family to go greek! Please wish me luck! My nerves are going CRAZY!

sweetmagnolia 08-03-2010 11:23 AM

I've been told that my campus isn't big on recs, but I'm still trying to get them all done. With six chapters I do not (yet! I'm still working on it) have one for each house, but i do have more than one for some. We'll see how I get it worked out, I guess.

SoCalVeg 08-03-2010 10:56 PM

I'll be doing formal Fall 2010 recruitment as well! I'm going through at a California school with a fairly noncompetitive recruitment. I just decided to rush a couple of weeks ago, so I haven't even started securing recs yet, but I still have a bit of time! I'll be for sure starting my own rush thread in a couple of weeks, and I'm superstoked!

LucyKKG 08-03-2010 11:15 PM

SoCalVeg, is your school in SoCal? I know you said you were from there but wasn't sure about the school. Good luck!
