Yep yep, but last week, "that one" came back into class. :( It hasn't been as bad so far, because apparently he's gotten it into his head that he FINALLY wants to pass . We'll see how that goes.

At least so far it's been a good day. I tried to do something easy with my class---order of operations. But 1/2 of them claimed it was too hard. Ok, these are 8th graders who are doing 6th grade work, I seriously doubt it was too hard.

I still haven't gotten used to the complaining. Grr.

Good day today! I'm stoked cause I have a sub job lined up for every day this week! Yayyyy!

Monday: 6th grade core (social studies + English) at a school I love and frequent
Tuesday: 5th grade, never been there before
Wednesday: Elementary School (not sure what grade), never been there before
Thursday: Frosh Science, high school I've been to frequently but not in a while
Friday: 1/2 combo class, never been there before

Weeeeee should be an adventure!

What's a 1/2 combo class?

1st and 2nd grade together, I assume. I actually ended up cancelling that job so I can sub for music at my alma mater. It's weird cause this teacher was MY teacher! I'm excited though. I know a lot of these kids already, too.

That's interesting, I've never seen that done before.

Wed - HS English (HS I'm at all the time)
Fri - HS English (my alma mater)

Teaching Fellowships

Hey...have any of you been involved with teaching fellowships or programs like Teach for America?

I currently work at an all boys charter school and will be doing a a Teaching Fellowship next year. I'm very excited!

I am in charge. Not you! The teacher I subbed for today has helpers in each class. They are actually quite helpful for collecting/organizing papers and other general questions I have about the class. It pisses me off when they try to run stuff and make announcements to the class. Hey! I got this! Back off!!

Actually, it bugs me when other adults try to do that, too. It's just worse when they're only 12.

Every time I think I have seen it all as a teacher, something new comes along.

7th Period - These are my Beginners English kids who are a bit higher in their English. 3 are students I had last year. 1 of them, a boy who is a little, how should I say this???? "Fey", starts hyperventilating about 5 minutes before class is over. I grab a bag, get him to calm his breathing down.

Why was he hyperventilating? 1 of the girls told me that she had set him up to meet another boy after school. His 1st gay date.

This never happened when I taught 1st grade.
