I've never actually seen It's a Wonderful Life all the way through. I've seen snippets here and there. I have no desire to watch the entire thing all the way through either!

I do have a wonderful life but hate seeing 80 times a season.

Actually, "It's A Wonderful Life" has been playing once or twice per year for about 15 years now. The only reason I know this is because it's one of my mom's favorite movies of all time. She was sad when NBC bought the rights to showing the movie, because instead of being able to catch one of the multiple showings, she had to make sure that she found out it was showing so she didn't miss it. (That's right, I dug up an article from 1995!) We eventually bought the tape, and then DVD, so it's no problem anymore! I remember when NBC first bought the rights, it was only shown once per season, but according to this 2009 Christmas movie guide, NBC is showing it twice this year.

Now, Elf...THAT is in overplayed Christmas movie! (But I still love it...:))

THIS! Listening to this song is like having my eardrums run through a dull cheese grater!

I agree with "Most Wonderful Time of the Year"

and Jingle Bells. I hate that song. I don't know why, I just do.

StrawberryField 11-28-2009 04:58 PM

Wow, I'd never heard of Christmas Shoes before today. *Sigh* Ignorance was bliss. I have a tendency to hate any Christmas song when I hear it more than twice a day. The songs themselves don't really bother me as much as the constant repetition.

pshsx1 11-28-2009 05:13 PM

Whatever that Christmas song is with Canon in D. I can't stand it!
Actually... I think it's called the Christmas Canon.

Still, I think it destroys a perfectly beautiful piece of music with some annoying repetitive lyrics sung by a bunch of kids in almost every store in every mall and at every house on every station 900 times an hour.

/anger

Elf?

I liked Bad Santa at first but I've seen it so many times anymore that I'm now annoyed by it.

Not only are the lyrics totally stupid, but I detest any song that has an adult singing who is pretending to be a kid. If you want the sound of a kid singing, then hire a kid. (preferably one without a speech impediment, but that is a different rant for a different day)

Now A Christmas Story? I love that movie and watch it several times each year. It gets funnier ever single year.

I havent heard that song, but I would agree with your reasoning for not liking it :)

I finally watched it all the way through for the first time two years ago, while getting ready for a trivia tournament. I can definitely see why it's a classic. That said, shows truly become classic when they're only available to the general public maybe 2-3 times a year or on dvd.

As for All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey, having seen love, actually before hearing it, I didn't even recognize the song. To me, they're two different songs - and I love Olivia Olson's version SO much better. (fyi - the version you hear in love, actually is really sung by the young girl named Joanna - Olivia Olson)

Seriously, no body has mentioned "Grandma got run over by a reindeer." Good googlymoogly, THIS song is something that I cannot stand! Maybe it's a country thing, but, Good Grief!

I think she said it best.

Also, I'm 100% on the Little Drummer Boy bandwagon. Can't stand it.

and I'm pretty sure no one mentioned "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer" because that's just a given! No one likes that song!!!!

lovespink88 11-29-2009 03:37 AM

Oh!! I heard one... I think it's just called "Nothin' for Christmas". It goes "I'm gettin' nothin' Christmas, mommy and daddy are mad, I'm gettin' nothin' for Christmas, 'cause I ain't been nothin' but bad". Then it lists all the horrible things he's done followed by "Somebody snitched on me!" Awful. Just awful.

Incorrect, I like that song!

I'm not a fan of the Little Drummer Boy either, but I do enjoy listening to the Drummer Boy duet with David Bowie and someone else (forgot who).

I personally don't like "Joy to the World"

Bing Cosby. I am in pain that you remembered Bowie but not a legend like him.

I thought it might be him, but I didn't wanna say it and be wrong. lol.

KSUViolet06 11-29-2009 07:42 PM

I also hate the Jim Carey version of The Grinch.

I'll take the original any day.

DaemonSeid 11-29-2009 07:49 PM

Year without a Santa Claus

After Rudolph and Frosty, Rankin Bass should have quit.

First, agree with AGD on how stupid that song is.

The song that annoys me the most is Santa Baby. Creepy.

Both of those songs, along with "Holly, Jolly Christmas" and "Rocking Around the Christmas Tree," are waaaaaaaay overplayed.

A girl on our local The Knot board commented that she is walking down the aisle to "Santa Baby" at her Christmastime wedding. My response: WTF? Yeah, great message for your groom and guests..."I want a fur coat, yacht, platinum mine, ring, stuff from Tiffany's, etc."

PeppyGPhiB 11-30-2009 06:27 PM

Copying/pasting my response in the other (old) thread:

I'm dreading the you-just-know-it's-coming Taylor Swift Christmas special or CD.

I've never liked "O Christmas Tree" or "Do They Know It's Christmas."

Agreed, and not to hijack the thread but Mike Myers as the Cat in the Hat (the movie) makes me want to jump into traffic.

Another annoying Christmas song: Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire. I'd rather roast marshmallows :D

DaemonSeid 12-07-2009 01:32 PM

You hate the Christmas SONG??

BLASPHEMY!

nikki1920 12-08-2009 01:53 PM

I've never seen A Christmas Story. The one with the BB gun and Ralphie. I have no desire to see it. *shrug*

DaemonSeid 12-08-2009 02:40 PM

WHAT??? DOUBLE BLASPHEMY!!!!

you are really missing out on a funny movie.

i'm beginning to HATE "we wish you a merry christmas" due to over exposure in seasonal commercials.

DaemonSeid 12-07-2010 08:29 AM

How many different holiday threads do we need? It's only the 7th, people.

Alumiyum 12-07-2010 01:48 PM

I hate all of them right now. Because I've now been hearing them for three weeks and there's another three weeks to come.

I wish Christmas-y stuff was reserved for the actual holiday, and maybe a couple of days prior. Then it would actually be exciting. Not so much when it's drilled into your head repeatedly.

I read through the thread and this absolutely made my day. Hilarious.

I pretty much dislike every Christmas song for the reason that they start playing before Halloween has even passed. I'm waiting for the Christmas decorations to go up in September in the next few years.

I honestly can't remember the name of the song I do hate the most, but the basic plot of it is that a girl keeps serendipitously running into a guy all year long and on Christmas morning they've both forgotten some food item and run into each other at the grocery store. They end up eating the holiday meal together and then date or whatever. The song just grates on my nerves, but I think what bothers me the most is that they never tried to exchange numbers or anything before that point, even though they ran into each other like once a month and enjoyed talking. Then I wonder if one of them was actually stalking the other one.

That's pretty much the worst Christmas song I can think of.

Tulip86 12-07-2010 06:54 PM

They don't play Christmas songs here before december 6th because there's a major holiday (they celebrate Sinterklaas, who is actually Santa Claus) on december 5, with it's own songs.

But once they can they start playing Christmas songs with a vengeance... I'm allready sick of Mariah Carey... Only 17 more days...
