So the KD, Phi Mu, Alpha Phi and AOPi houses at Appalachian just need to check with the Zeta, DG, Pi Phi and Tri-Delt chapters at North Carolina State about any transfers coming through recruitment from that school. Since there are sorority members from both of these schools on Greekchat, I don't think this will be much of a problem at all. Good luck to the "girl in your dorm."

If she is speaking for herself, she will get caught. Her family SHOULD say something, since they all know that this is not right. And I would think it would be a great disrespect to them to try to play the system that they all played by, and probably respect, since there are so many different groups you are legacy to.

On the other hand, if there is a "girl from my dorm", I'm sure she is telling all her family about it, (the whole internet knows, why not mom and sis?). And one of them should step up and speak up about it.

lol....:)

This happened at another NC school a couple years ago. The girl was busted by round two. And now thanks to Greek Chat so is "the girl from her dorm" too.

Hello all! Recruitment orientation is tomorrow, I'm now excited... I talked with my family a lot about it all tonight and despite what everyone on here thinks, I think it's going to be a good experience for me. I am just going with the flow to see how it all goes. Wish me luck! :)

The fact that you said, "despite what everyone thinks," leads me to believe that the "friend" in your dorm was YOU.

I wonder...

Good luck! And be sure to let us know what happens!

But thanks anyways, I'll try to keep you all updated.... I'm stoked. tonight we went and saw the sorority halls. Everyone seems nice. I have no idea which one I'll end up in because they're all great.

I'm a bit confused is App State code for the school she is actually attending? I ask because I thought App State did recruitment in the spring.

general question:

if a girl accepted a bid during formal recruitment and then depledged...can she join another group legally that is colonizing here this semester though its in the same calendar year?

FSUZeta 09-20-2009 03:47 PM

no.

Nope. The one year rule still applies whether it's a new colony or not.

Hmm I see what you mean. At the same time it's silly though. They really should find out a way of monitoring it beforehand.

Yes, but Number 1, people have lives & obligations (and for the alumnae helping out at Recruitment: they have spouses, perhaps kids, jobs, pets, aging parents, etc.) and Number 2, it doesn't really set up a great precedent if you treat rushees with suspicion right off the bat. Basically people are busy and maybe finding out someone who wants to initiated in sorority #2 isn't a priority initially.

As to how people would find out - unless someone was to sever all ties with their former contacts, families, etc. a la a witness protection program, they WILL get found out. With Facebook, Twitter, Meet Up, Linked In, GC and the 5 gazillion other social networking devices out there, they will get found out.

Remember, we are talking about sorority women here, and sorority women (and women in general) DO TALK.

Signed,
CP2K, a Proud Sorority Woman.
