I think you're right. A lot of my daughter's friends at UGA wore their homecoming dresses from senior year for pref, since our HS girls tend to wear a cocktail style dress for homecoming rather than a long gown. Some of the girls in those pictures were wearing tank tops and skirts.

I didn't think that was pref either, because my daughter told me she decided to wear pale pink, because most girls were in black and pearls. My independent sole.

Alpha Gamma Delta has 61 new members :)

I called the greek life office and found out the final quota for UGA was 54 for undergrads and 6 for upperclassmen.

You mean in real life? Because UGA doesn't tend to post them at Greek Life on the web.

I guess they don't really "have to" but it's a way to take anyone who isn't a freshman without losing a freshman spot in quota. You get 54 frosh and six non-frosh.

It makes it easier for non-freshman to get bids. It was hard at UGA, and this is new this year.

Having an upperclassman quota is for sophs and juniors.

At alot of the bigger schools, chapters are hesitant to take them because it takes up a spot in quota that could have been filled with a freshman (who will be in school for 4 years).

Having an upperclassman allows each chapter to take on a few upperclassmen without them counting in regular quota.

So if Suzie Sophomore is awesome and the total package, you can pledge her without worrying about it.

It makes it a little easier for an upperclassman to have a chance.

OHhh KSUViolet how i love you and your knowledge. So is official quota 54 or 62?

UGAalum94 08-17-2009 07:56 PM

Any other results?

How did the upperclass quota work out? I wouldn't be surprised if it was hard for all the groups to make. How did they handle releases? Were they part of the same pool as the freshman?

BlueCarnation 08-17-2009 08:08 PM

Are there even that many upperclassmen in UGA recruitment to begin with? I mean, are there enough for every particpating sorority to bid 5 of them?

There are some advisers who post, and some people in the know in their organizations.

Others just learn stuff by reading it here.

If there weren't, wouldn't the quota be lower?

I'd think so since panhellenic must have used something to set the quota. But if they weren't doing releases with the difference in mind, the upperclasswomen might have concentrated at the same chapters.

I'm just curious because it seems like it might be a hard thing to get right the first time.

And although in years past, an upperclass PNM'S options were limited at some chapters at UGA, other chapters took some every year, so it's conceivable that they were all placed fine or that previous returns wouldn't have meant much at all. Remember the one year UGA released the bid lists? There were quite a few non-freshman on it, but some chapters didn't have any.

Some results from our little Georgia corner of the world: 3 new Chi Omegas (2 were Chi O legacies, one was a DZ legacy), 2 Phi Mus (one a legacy), 1 Zeta Tau Alpha. Lately, from our hometown, most girls have been going Zeta, so this is a little different this year. I am actually thrilled about the Chi O new members; it's been a long time since we've had any from Georgia. Same for ADPi (sigh). (But we did get some at new ADPis at Auburn this year).

Yay for Phi Mu!!! Tell her that a Penn State Phi Mu says, "Welcome Home!"

GPhiBLtColonel 08-17-2009 11:26 PM

I heard that Gamma Phi Beta took 57 new members, including the daughter of a charter member of the chapter!:p:D

I wrote a ton of recs and only know about two of them so far - one went
AlphaGam and one went PiPhi.

At Alabama the "official" quota reported by Panhellenic to I/natls is the Freshmen quota. Upperclassmen are treated for reporting purposes only as quota additions. So for example if a Chapter missed Freshmen quota by 2, but made Upperclassmen quota of 5, then from an I/natl point of view a Chapter made quota +3. On a campus that had been historically biased against Upperclassmen, this is a big incentive to accept the new system and members.

Katmandu 08-18-2009 08:27 AM

The Bikini T-shirts are a little creepy for Bid Day attire.

Do you mean the tank tops? I think they're just too big and the shorts are a tad short. Who is using the ladybugs??

FSUZeta 08-18-2009 01:18 PM

phi mu is probably the ladybugs. if you look at the photos on the first page, there are girls wearing those tacky beach coverup big t-shirts that have illustrations on them that look like a torso wearing a bikini.

Wow. I would be embarrassed to wear that as a nightgown let alone on Bid Day. Are they serious???

FSUZeta 08-18-2009 01:24 PM

i am hoping that it was the sorority members wearing them and they weren't the commemorative bid day shirt for the new members.

The photographers that UGA sororities use for their events have a "crazy picture" contest amongst all the sororities. They take photos of each pledge class, new member class, and the sorority as a whole, and for each group they do a formal pose and a crazy pose. My guess is that was one pledge class from SDT's idea for their crazy picture.

BBelleADPi 08-18-2009 02:06 PM

I just found out that I was incorrect on some of the sororities that girls from our area pledged. Here's the correct info (in case anyone really cares!):

Chi Omega, 2
Phi Mu, 1
Zeta, 1
Sigma Kappa, 1
ALPHA DELTA PI, 1 (Finally!!)

And, BTW, I think this is the shortest UGA Recruitment thread we've had in years!

lawgal 08-18-2009 04:53 PM

Does anyone know how DG did? Here's hoping they made quota plus.

That's Phi Mu. You could tell by the house in the background and they have on the website that the "ladybug" is their mascot. Many Phi Mu chapters use the "ladybug" as their chapter mascot when there isn't an ASA chapter on campus.
